Junk Food Nation, have I told you how much I love you lately?  You care, you really care.  How do I know?  Because when news came out EVERYWHERE yesterday that Nabisco was having LIMITED EDITION CANDY CORN OREOS in Target stores on Monday, SO MANY of you immediately hopped to Twitter, Facebook, comments, even my E-mail, to tell me to get these!

You guys are the best.  You see a new junk food, and you need to tell the Junk Food Guy!  Love it.  Anyways, yes, these will be reviewed on this blog, no worries.  I’ll admit – I’ll be a little late to the party, because it will be unlikely for me to get to a Target immediately after they hit shelves Monday, but you’ll have the Junk Food Guy’s input soon enough.  Although, I must admit…I’m a little skeeved out.  I sort of concur with The Impulsive Buy’s take on these.

DRY Vanilla Bean Soda: The Money Shot

This tale starts out with the SECOND POST EVER on this blog, waaaaaay back, when I first reviewed DRY Soda’s Blood Orange Soda.  I liked it.  And I would complain to DRY Soda company – why can’t I find you anywhere here on the East Coast!? And they’re reply would be, “We’re working on it!”  Which I appreciated – I mean, they could’ve ignored me.  But they didn’t.  I believed they were indeed working on it.  But still, I never saw them on the East Coast.

FOUR ingredients

So when I was strolling through my favorite grocery store of all time, Wegmans, in Virginia, and I saw this four pack of DRY Vanilla Bean Soda, I almost lost my shizz.  HURRAY! I shouted, dancing in the aisle with the box.  The Junk Food Gal gave me a bewildered look.  “Don’t judge me” I said, gleefully placing this four-pack into the cart.

Vanilla Bean is one of my favorite flavors, so DRY Vanilla Bean Soda is a +1 for me.

DRY Soda is a company striving to perfect a less sweet, all natural soda made with just four ingredients, including a little bit of pure cane sugar.  It’s, honestly, a great mission.  I LOVE soda, but have been trying to cut corn syrup out of my diet all together.  Hard as the Junk Food Guy.  This is right up my alley.

Based in Seattle, Washington, this company has been around since 2005.

So I sat down, ready to shoot all this pics of my DRY Vanilla Bean Soda, and as I was lining up the bottle for a shot, I noticed…one of these things is not like the other.

SOMEONE REPLACED ONE OF MY VANILLA BEAN SODA WITH A LAVENDER SODA!!!!  DUUUUUDE.  WHAT THE.

So it looks like today, I’ll be reviewing TWO sodas: DRY Vanilla Bean Soda AND DRY Lavender Soda!

DRY Soda Company has, IMO, a great look.  Bright colored splash labels on the front of plain, clear, glass bottles.  Cold bottles get that great frosted look.  The printing costs for labeling is kept low.  It’s a genius design.

DRY Vanilla Bean Soda, DRY Lavender Soda

DRY Vanilla Bean Soda and DRY Lavender Soda both have only FOUR ingredients, and the Vanilla bean is only 60 calories, the Lavender 70 calories.  So let’s taste!

DRY Vanilla Bean Soda: As soon as it hits the lips, the first sensation is carbonation.  Perfectly carbonated, and not overly so – doesn’t burn the throat in drinking it.  The clear look and sparkling sensation are ultimately refreshing.  Next sensation – not SUPER sweet, but slightly sweet.  Honestly, it’s the sort of mild sweetness you might find in a good vodka tonic … just that little bit of sweetness that doesn’t distract from the refreshing-ness of the soda.  And that vanilla bean taste is NICE and BIG.  It lingers in the mouth and is really interesting without all the added sugar behind it.  It’s just normal vanilla bean flavor, which has a natural sweetness on its own.  Really good.  Really crisp.  Like it.

DRY Lavender Soda: Lavender? Like the stuff sprayed on pillows and in potpourri?  Oooooook.  First sip – WHOA.  It tastes like…lavender!!!  But, I swear, it’s not gross.  The sweetness of the lavender has an almost citrus taste to it.  A light sweet citrus that ends in the distinct flavor of lavender.  Equally as refreshing as the vanilla bean, equally crisp.  REALLY unique flavor.  Won’t be everyone’s first choice, but I REALLY liked this.  For anyone who drinks herbal teas, etc… I think this’ll be right up your alley, honestly.  Starts bubbly and ends with a sweet lavender flavor.  Very tasty.

Not surprisingly, I liked both of these.  Not super sweet, which is a good thing, and very thirst quenching.  But I am clearly biased, because I’m in the tank for this company.  I encourage you to find and try this drink…if you’re looking for a natural low cal soda which is NOT a DIET soda, then DRY Soda Co. is for you. THANK YOU DRY Soda company for getting your distribution out to the East Coast.  I am STOKED.
