Review (x3): 7 Days Pizzeti (Grand Padano & Tomato; Emmentaler, Tomato & Olive; Emmentaler, Tomato & Garlic), & Do You Like Grapefruit?

JFG Nation, I was thinking of my friends on the Nosh Show recently and I remembered that we had a big discussion about whether we ate or liked grapefruit. And for me, it was a no brainer – I LOVE GRAPEFRUIT. It’s juicy and sour and tart and refreshing. I like Fresca. I like gummy grapefruits. I like grapefruit in cocktails. IT’S DELIGHTFUL.

So imagine my shock when I found myself in the minority!  It made me wonder “who are these people that don’t eat or don’t like grapefruit????” I even remember Gary Gulman doing a bit about how grapefruit ruins everything. Am I a weirdo because I like grapefruit?????

Tell me in the comments below, JFG Nation: grapefruit – yay or nay?

Today’s junk food: 7 Days Pizzetis!!

All three of these Pizzeti snacks were sent to me by 7 Days, a snack company more known in Europe than the US. They’re trying to distribute more in the US, starting with this new line of bagel chips. Their website calls these Pizzetis:

“THE HONEST SNACK! Super tasty, extra crunchy, double baked bread chips with tomato, spices and real cheese.

Pizzeti is a great way to enjoy the taste of real cheese with the convenience of a snack.”
Apparebtly you can already find these Pizzetis in HEB, Publix, and Hudson News, and they hollered at your boy for some more online exposure. I enjoy bagel chips, but usually find them sort of bland. I’m hoping the cheese here really stands out.

First, Grana Padano & Tomato!

DO THESE TASTE GOOD? Yes.

WHY OR WHY NOT? Well, for one, these sort of smell like pizza. Grana Padano cheese is basically a Parmesan cheese.

The bagel chip is nice and crispy, maybe to a fault – most of the chips in the bag were broken. These tasted good – light tomato flavor, nice parm flavor. These didn’t taste like pizza; these reminded me most of what bread they serve at a local Italian place called Mamma Lucia’s. At ML, they serve toasted pieces of bread that have been scraped with tomato and you dip them into a garlic/Parmesan filled olive oil. It’s heaven. These match that flavor exactly.

Could be a tad bit saltier, but I like the restraint. Good chip!

Next: Emmetaler, tomato & olive Pizzeti!

DO THESE TASTE GOOD? YES.

WHY OR WHY NOT? Now we’re talking. When I opened the bag, these smelled like olive. Same nicely oiled bagel crisp. But the flavor on these POPPED – the olive flavor was not overwhelming it definitely noticeable and the saltiness helped accentuate the underlying cheese and tomato flavor. Less tomato flavor here than the first bag.

Emmetaler cheese is like a hard Swiss, and I definitely got that here – the Swiss cheese flavor was nice and bold on the corners of my tongue. Good savoriness overall. These were really really good. That salt from the olive really helped elevate the cheese.

Again, the only thing I didn’t quite get was the tomato – but mixed with the onion and garlic, I’m just assuming it helped add to the savory base. Thumbs up here. Tasty.

Last: Emmetaler, tomato and garlic Pizzeti!

DO THESE TASTE GOOD? Yes.

WHY OR WHY NOT? These did not smell as garlicky as I expected. If anything this bag smelled very much like any other bagel chips I’ve ever had.

The flavor of these, however, was definitely distinct from the previous two. They tasted basically like a heavy garlicky bagel chip – the tomato flavor wasn’t as noticeable, again. The tomato, onion, and garlic just provided a base of savoriness.

I didn’t even get the cheese as much with this one – I tasted some creaminess, but the main flavor and aftertaste was garlic. Oh I’m not complaining. I love garlic. This particular Pizzeti reminded me the most of traditional store bought bagel chips.

ANYTHING ELSE I SHOULD KNOW? All three were really tasty, and waaaaay better than your average US bagel chip. My favorite by far was the Emmetaler, tomato & olive flavor – the cheese popped the most and it was the perfect amount of salt. REALLY good. Thanks again to 7 Days for the review opportunity!

PURCHASED AT: Sent to me but look for them in Public, HEB, Hudson News!

The JFG

I love, love, love grapefruit. I love it so much that I try to buy body products that are grapefruit scented like the facial wipes and shampoo/conditioner by Burt’s Bees. It’s refreshing to me. My dad got me liking grapefruit as a young child. Unfortunately now he can’t eat it because grapefruit interferes with his medications. But I’ll continue my love of this fruit!

  2. Matt says:

I think i’m gonna grab a container of grapefruit juice at the store tomorrow. I like it but haven’t had in a long time….thanks. When I was little I remember my grandma having these “grapefruit spoons” that were almost triangle shaped, and the ends were kind of serrated, so that you could scoop out the grapefruit sections easy.

  3. Joe says:

I eat grapefruit everyday, its my favorite fruit!

    Grapefruit Hi-Chews are my jam.

  4. John W. says:

I like grapefruit just fine at breakfast time, but be warned, it makes milk taste really terrible for a few minutes afterward.

As for the bagel chips, I believe I have seen at least a couple of those flavors at a nearby Dollar Tree store. Now that they have the JFG seal of approval, I just might pick some up next time I’m there.

  5. Jessica says:

FL Native here, we used to have a 30′ grapefruit tree in our backyard. I love grapefruit!

  6. Marianne says:

Also a Floridian and grapefruit lover. I love it sectioned into salads and also broiled with a sprinkle of brown sugar on top. YUM!

    • Sheila says:

Mmmm, broiled grapefruit! I also use a tiny bit of Irish butter with the brown sugar.

  7. Elisa says:

I also enjoy fresh grapefruit (and juice) too. They’re best when in season.

  8. Sascha says:

That’s a yay on Fresca. An even more definite yay on Squirt. A slightly less enthusiastic yay on the new 1893. A yay on gummies and other flavored things.
But unless we’re taking Pink or Ruby Red, a fat ole may on grapefruit pure. Too bitter.

  9. Mary says:

I can’t stand grapefruit. I’m not sure how hungry I’d have to be to eat it voluntarily. It’s just so horrendously bitter. The last time I had it, it was in the 90’s. At a friend’s house, where it was the only thing served for breakfast, and I had to be polite.

  10. Brenda says:

I love it! They now sell big jars of pink grapefruit all peeled and segmented and I could eat them every day. The juice the grapefruit is in doesn’t have sugar added and it tastes awesome just to drink – like a fresh grapefruit!
