Review: Nature Valley Almond Butter Granola Cups & What Foods Paint Your Tongue?
JFG Nation, the other day I mentioned that the Peeps Oreos turned my tongue and saliva pink. Question of the day: how many other foods can you name that turn your mouth a distinctly different color? So we’re talking FULL ON COVERAGE of tongue – not just incidental coloring.
The only one I can think of is blue raspberry Blow Pops – you have one of those and you’ll be spitting neon blue for hours. It’s fun – it’s like you just ate a Smurf.
What else? Let me know in the comments below.
Today’s junk food: Nature Valley Almond Butter Granola Cups!!
I reviewed the Peanut Butter Chocolate version of these recently, so this is basically round 2. Again, Its a circular granola cup, almond butter inside the cup (very shallow), and bits of almond sprinkled on top.
DOES THIS TASTE GOOD? YES.
WHY OR WHY NOT? These tasted good, for sure. When I opened the package and sniffed, I got lots of almond butter and standard honey granola flavor. Biting into a cup, the pieces of almond on top were nice, providing additional texture.
The almond butter itself was smooth and flavorful, and complemented the maple-like flavor of the granola cup really well. The addition of a maple or honey flavor to the almond butter was delicious. While super crumbly, I felt the flavor overall was very comforting. The almond butter kept the cup from being too dry.
Well executed up and down – a hiker’s dream food (granola bar dipped in almond butter).
ANYTHING ELSE I SHOULD KNOW? Dare I say I liked these better than the choco PB version. These fit the profile of a granola snack better. The choco PB version of these was almost trying to be a cookie with its chocolate dip. These had a more straightforward flavor that I would associate with granola.

The JFG

My son used to love these and I swear he ate a whole batch – came screaming out of the bathroom the next day sure he was dying because – well, you get it.

I find popsicles color my tongue.
I like these new filled cups, but, honestly, my kids don’t like them. They feel they are too dry.
The color changing Fun Dip leaves your mouth brightly painted.
