MICRO-REVIEW: Original Potato Good Thins & My Super-Late 2016 MLB Picks
JFG Nation: IT’S BASEBALL TIME. Wait…whatdya mean we’re like six weeks into the season? Who says I can’t still make predictions? I LOVE PREDICTIONS.
Ok, ok. So I’m behind. And it’s sort of cheating to make predictions now since teams have already begun to shake out and the standings have started to reveal who is good and who ain’t. I’m so behind I can barely remember what happened last year or who was even good outside of the Mets and Royals. Did the Red Sox win again? Damnit. I hate that.
All I know is that my so-called informed opinion last year led me to pick the Nats over the Mariners in the World Series. Good god. So this year, I’m going strictly by the eye-test – I’ve read zero articles, and am only going to review the rosters/standings for the first time now…This’ll be fun! We’ll learn about these teams together!
Instead of doing my usual long diatribe for each division, this year I’m just going straight selections. Here we go!
AL EAST: Red Sox (Jackie Bradley for MVP)
AL CENTRAL: White Sox (Todd Frazier is the answer)
AL WEST: Astros (I’m still buying Houston here – they’ll turn it around)
AL WILDCARD 1: Royals
AL WILDCARD 2: O’s
ALCS: White Sox vs. Red Sox
AL CHAMPS: White Sox
NL EAST: Nats (it all hinges on Ben Revere, I’M TELLING YOU)
NL CENTRAL: Cubs (duh)
NL WEST: Dodgers (Gross, but Kershaw puts them here)
NL WILDCARD 1: Mets
NL WILDCARD 2: Pirates
NLCS: Cubs vs. Nats
NL CHAMPS: Cubs
WORLD SERIES CHAMPS: White Sox!
The White Sox??? How the hell did THAT happen. Welp, we know THAT’S not coming true. I predicted an all-Chicago World Series? Are you kidding me? Urggggh. Let me know your crazy predictions in the comments below.
Today’s junk food: Original Potato Good Thins!
I know what you’re thinking: “Hey JFG, why’d you take all the photos in sepia tone?” SHUSH – let’s just say that sometimes I have no idea why my iPhone decides to pull in as much yellow light as it does. Gross.
What’s not gross: these Original Potato Good Thins! I must admit – I was SUPER skeptical of these after I heavily criticized two other varieties of Good Thins on this site. But after Marvo raved about these on the Nosh Show, I had to try. And you know what? He was right.
These are just a light potatoey cracker/chip that has just enough salt to give the overall flavor a nice savory glow. Licking one cracker chip by itself, I didn’t really get ANY salt. But munch on a few of these and there’s plenty of savory potato flavor everywhere.
The texture of the cracker chip itself reminded me of Better Cheddars, sort of – a flaky, round disc of starchy goodness with a flat chew. These did not feel like potato chips, but they didn’t go all the way to the Pringles-potato-starch end of the spectrum either. The flavor reminded me most of PopChips, but without the great snap. Like I said, these were cracker-esque – great potato chip flavor but in a softer, slightly crisp form.
I destroyed an entire box of these in one sitting, mainly because the box was only 3.75 oz. Cmon now, Good Thins. I’ll be buying these again, but you’re killing me on the lack of volume here.
PURCHASED AT: Safeway, Chevy Chase, DC
COST: $2.50 on sale

The last time the Cubs and White Sox met in the Fall Classic was 110 years ago and the Hitless Wonders from the South Side won with a .198 batting average in the Series. To learn more about this team visit your local library or perhaps this website: http://www.baseball-reference.com/bullpen/1906_Chicago_White_Sox
the sweet potato ones are delicious.
lol, you can’t make MLB predictions on May 10th!
Call me crazy, but I’ve got the Mets vs. Royals for a rematch this year, with the Mets coming out on top this time.
