Junk Food Nation, happy Monday! Or as happy a Monday CAN be. Seriously, I’m just as non-awake as you are. Plus, my sports-nerve-centers are burned out from watching amazing college basketball games all weekend. First, Wisconsin-Arizona was a crazy fun game, as I watched Sam Dekker drop three after three to bury the Wildcats. Which led to this. Which I hope to never see again.

Then, Notre Dame-Kentucky. Jeez…this was Tyson-Holyfield (without the upset, of course). Twenty lead changes, and Notre Dame ALMOST pulled it off. My buddies and I said it would take a team like ND to stop Kentucky – a long range efficient shooting team that could take advantage of speed mismatches, get those bigs on UK leaning down. Kentucky still prevailed, and you know what? Good for them. The UK players seemed super gracious in their comments. Calipari was still slimy, but whatever.

I thought Sunday’s Mich State-Louisville game would be the ho-hummer of the weekend…but then it WASN’T. When Louisville hit that crazy bouncing free throw to push it to OT, and then Mich State pulled it out, I threw in the towel. My brain was spent. I watched Gonzaga-Duke basically half comatose on the couch.

But here we are, Monday – and since I’m about to discuss these Cadbury Creme Egg Cookies below, I had a question – how do YOU eat a Cadbury Creme Egg?

I ask because I feel like everyone does it differently. When I was little and got my very first one, I wanted to savor it, so I remember carving a hole in the top and sipping out the crème gradually over the course of a few days until all that sugary goodness was emptied. (HEY, don’t judge, I was like six years old). As a stupid teen I remember biting into them wholeheartedly and letting the “yolk” run down my chin as if it was a real egg. At some point in college, I remember stopping eating Cadbury Creme Eggs, thinking, “Dude, those are WAAAAY too sweet” and then falling back in love with them in law school (HOW DID I EVER LEAVE YOU??) And now? I dunno – I think I just eat them normally, trying to get a bite of crème with every bite of chocolate, inevitably making a huge mess and leaving sticky spots all over my ottoman. Gross.

But what do YOU do, JFNation? Sip out the creme with a straw? Crack off pieces of chocolate and dunk them like milk and cookies? Let me know in the comments below.

Today’s junk food: Limited Edition Cadbury Creme Egg Cookies!!

First spotted over on The Impulsive Buy, I have been searching for these Limited Edition Cadbury Creme Egg Cookies ever since. And finally, FINALLY, I found two tiny packages, hiding in the corner of a random shelf at Walmart near all the Easter candy. These were impossible to find (of course, I say that and tomorrow there’s gonna be some huge display somewhere).

Still, people LOVE the uber-sweetness of Cadbury Creme Eggs, so why not put them into cookie-form? With that sugary-yolk-y center oozing out? These HAVE to be good, right? Like a Cadbury Creme Egg with a little crunch?

Um, THAT sounds amazing…

Each Limited Edition Cadbury Creme Egg Cookies is around 75 calories, which is very Oreo-like…

Also, the previous description was “a delicious Cadbury coating.” Now this one says “covered in milk chocolate and vegetable fat coating.” That’s not gonna stop me from eating it…but…that’s not as appealing as the former.

…ignoring…ignoring…just give me the goodness…

Each of these cookies was circular, and covered in Cadbury chocolate.  I wasn’t sure what to expect when I cracked one of these Limited Edition Cadbury Creme Egg Cookies open. I also wasn’t sure of the texture or stiffness of the cookie wafer. The snap to this cookie was a little more rigid than I expected – Oreos, for example, snap in half pretty easily. Oreo wafers are actually pretty delicate, and half the time you crack an Oreo in half you’re also smushing the creme out of the edges. I didn’t want to do that here…but the snap didn’t happen with the pressure I initially applied. So I dug in a little deeper, and finally the cookie snapped open…

Do you see this??? DO YOU SEE WHAT I AM SEEING?? The inside of these Limited Edition Cadbury Creme Egg Cookies has the same look as a normal Cadbury Egg. I know the description said it would, but still – to see it in person? I had to call over the JFGal to witness this glory. “LOOK LOOK!” I said, pointing at the cookie. She was not as excited as I was.

So how did these Limited Edition Cadbury Creme Egg Cookies? I mean, to be blunt, they were everything I imagined them to be. Cadbury Creme Eggs are really just a ball of sweetness – they have a great chocolate outside, and the inside is sugary sugary sweet. It’s fondant, people. It’s water and sugar cooked down to a pliable goo. So, while I love Cadbury Creme Eggs, I know there’s really no subtle balance to the flavor – it’s not like the Reese’s Oreos which had the perfect creme flavor to cookie ratio. I figured these would be over the top sweet.

And I WAS RIGHT. The cookie part of this was light and flaky – the closest thing I can compare it to is the flakiness of a graham cracker, although clearly this was not a graham cookie.  The cookie part of this reminded me a lot of the cookies in Thin Mints (without the mint) – that sort-of-graham-like dark colored cookie that is rigid enough to hold the cookie up but crunchy enough so that you never forget that it’s there.

Throw on top of the the gooey sugary fondant innards and cover the whole thing with chocolate and you had an AMAZINGLY sweet cookie that gives anyone looking for a crunchy Cadbury Egg a huge payoff. These were pretty damn good. If you can find them, you won’t be disappointed.
