Review: Habanero Lime Chex Mix Xtreme & Weekend Eating Recap, Fantasy Baseball, The Nosh Show Ep. 35!
Good morning Junk Food Nation! I hope everyone had a relaxing weekend. I spend it dropping bills at three of DC’s tastiest restaurants (Rose’s Luxury, Aggio, and Tico) to celebrate the better half’s completion of the bar exam. I spent Sunday comatose. If you want to see lots of great pictures from my meals, definitely visit my Instagram, straight flexin’. While all three joints were amazing, Rose’s Luxury was the clear winner. Go there. Spend money.
Momentary nerdiness: Yesterday also marked the trade deadline in my keeper fantasy baseball league. I shipped away slumping star Bryce Harper for Cole Hamels to gamble on a chance to win the league this year. We use a contract system, so Bryce isn’t gone forever, but still – it was the end of an era. Well, a three year era. Whatever, I was crying nerd tears.
Eh, I’m too upset. This gamble better pay off. Meanwhile, bring on THE NOSH SHOW EPISODE 35:
This week, “we discuss ANOTHER new Oreo flavor, ANOTHER new Taco Bell product, Tofu McNuggets, Reebok Bacon, new deep fried fair foods, and more.” Listen embedded here:

TODAY’S JUNK FOOD: Habanero Lime Chex Mix Xtreme!
Amazingly, when I reviewed the Sweet & Spicy Sriracha Chex Mix Xtreme last week, these Habanero Lime Chex Mix Xtreme were nowhere to be seen – I had to travel to a DIFFERENT store to find these. Get your distribution streams right, Chex!
Habanero Lime Chex Mix Xtreme is basically Chex finally catching up with the chile limon trend that has been sweeping snacks for a couple years now. When I see habanero and lime and the word XTREME, I expect bold flavors. Let’s do this, Chex.
Habanero Lime Chex Mix Xtreme contains dried red bell peppers, dried jalapeno peppers, but habanero peppers is one of the last ingredients? Alarms going off in my head.
Habanero Lime Chex Mix Xtreme contained, like the Sriracha version, Chex cereal, pretzels, corn puffs, and bread chips. I smelled the bag, and the bag smelled like….nothing. Never a good sign.
To start things off, I took a big handful of Habanero Lime Chex Mix Xtreme and popped it into my mouth – basically what I tasted was a LOT of lime taste, a tiny bit of savoriness, and then it ended with a decent burn. I will give this Chex Mix credit – it has a subtle burn that sneaks up on you. Not enough to make my head sweat at all, but with a big enough handful, my whole mouth SORT OF tingled.
The problem with any “lime” snacks like this, especially Chex, is that it sort of tastes like spicy Froot Loops. I’ve had worse examples of fake lime, and this one wasn’t TOO bad, so I don’t want to go that far. But spicy Froot Loops is exactly the first thing that came to mind.
There was a decent overall savoriness to this that helped counter the lime, and the resulting burn was a nice touch, but overall this snack was just ok. I’m not even going to bother breaking down the individual pieces – to get the full effect of the burn, this snack MUST be eaten by the handful, directly into mouth.
I probably won’t eat it ever again, but I’m not going to kill them – they were just ok. Definitely the spiciest Chex Mix I’d ever had, if that’s your thing.
