Review: Chex Mix Confetti Cake Muddy Buddies & What Other Sites Do You Read?
Junk Food Nation, I have a weekend question for you – and yes, ALL of you, not just those who normally comment or who read my post via Google Reader and don’t comment. I really would like to get feedback from each and every one of my readers, in the comments below. And I have a very simple question: Besides this site (OF COURSE *brush shoulders off*), what are your other daily-visited, go-to news/info websites/blogs?
And no, I’m not asking about ONLY food blogs. I mean, EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING that you read on a daily basis. The Onion, CNN, HuffPo, RealClearPolitics, ESPN? I want to know. No, I’m not collecting data for the NSA. No, you don’t have to put down that you visit your bank, or Weather.com, or Facebook, or Twitter, or that you visit your Gmail account. But in the comments below I’d love if you listed your…say…TOP 5 visited daily websites. Here’s mine:
- ESPN.com – it’s probably the first site I visit EVERY DAY. Because (1) I am a lemming, and (2) ESPN has a hold over my jewels like no other. Ugh. I wish I could break up with you. But you’re sort of hot and can give me scores. I hate you.
- Deadspin.com – More sports? That’s a surprise. I head over to Deadspin because sometimes I need more than just scores, I NEED INSULTS AND TROLLING AND TO SEE WHO WAS AN IDIOT IN SPORTS LAST NIGHT. Besides Michael Pineda.
- Rotoworld.com – I’m seeing a pattern here. I go here to see any actual player updates – who tore their ACL, who came off the disabled list, who OMG I AM A SPORTS NERD HELP.
- Youtube.com – FINALLY, a non sports website. And I actually hold this different than Facebook/Twitter, because I go here throughout the day to watch videos of all my favorite morons. I am HOOKED on YouTube. That’s what I get for growing up on television…I can’t stop watching the endless data stream of Vine compilations, dunk contests, and pranks.
- CBS Radio WFAN 106.7 – Annnnnnnd….back to sports. This might be actually the top website I visit, because I listen to the live stream of my local sports radio talk shows all. Day. Long. I love sports radio. The Junk Food Gal will tell you – sports radio is constantly on in my home. I need an intervention.
So yeah, that’s me! So tell me YOURS in the comments below! PLEASE. Is it the Superficial.com? Is it TMZ? Is it FOXNews, MSN? You don’t have to give explanations, and you can remain anonymous – give a fake name, email, whatever. Just list me your Top 5.
Oh, why do I want to know? Because I’m curious about the reader-content demographic of my readers. Not so much about whether you’re male, female, race, age, etc…. more that I’m curious what type of readers my blog fits into. I dunno, this might be a fruitless question, but I’d like to know. Is Junkfoodguy.com a popular blog amongst people who also read SororityLife.com? AboveTheLaw.com? I dunno – but I’d like to find out. Thanks in advance for helping.
Today’s junk food: Chex Mix Confetti Cake Muddy Buddies!
Chex Mix Confetti Cake Muddy Buddies were bought at the same time as the Lemon Meringue variety. Looking at the two bags, very Easter-y, no? Bright pink and bright yellow. On this blog, I’ve reviewed a number of “cake flavored” items…so it only seems natural that Chex Mix would be on board at some point.
IS confetti cake a flavor, though? Isn’t confetti cake just regular cake with a few bursts of food coloring in it? Can YOU tell me, Junk Food Nation, how confetti cake tastes any different than regular cake? (Do so in the comments below if you can).
I’m still annoyed that these are called Muddy Buddies and they don’t contain peanut butter and chocolate. Grrrr.
When I opened this bag of Chex Mix Confetti Cake Muddy Buddies, I must say, I was BLOWN AWAY by how these smelled. These did, indeed, smell EXACTLY like cake. EXACTLY. Like the Lemon Meringue Chex Mix, the aroma spilling out of the bag seemed ON POINT. Smelled like vanilla frosting and cake. Wow.
Plus, look at these pieces! The color is right these – little specks of pink and blue. These ARE fun looking.
I popped some of these Chex Mix Confetti Cake Muddy Buddies into my mouth…and…was…well, hmm.
See, the problem I have with these Chex Mix Confetti Cake Muddy Buddies is the problem I have with most cake-flavored snacks. The first bite tastes pretty accurate, with a nice vanilla flavor that reflects the frosting. But with more munches, the accuracy goes down. And that’s what happened here. The first few pieces, I thought, sort of reminded me of cake – not as much as the smell, but it was there. The sugary vanilla flavor tasted like frosting. But as I ate more, the Corn Chex flavor was unmistakable – not a bad thing, at all – and these ceased tasting like cake, and just tasted like REALLY SUGARY Chex Mix. Which, like I said, isn’t BAD – but it just wasn’t CAKE, in my mind.
So yeah, these were just OK for me. Not enough for a re-buy. Maybe my brain is just too fried, and it gave up trying to taste the cake flavor too soon. But I liked the Lemon Meringue better.

My top five websites visited: (1) Philly.com, (2) Engadget, (3) ESPN, (4) TUAW, and (5) GoComics.com. And as a bonus, I also read Dear Abby on Yahoo everyday.
Hmm. MLB.com, baseball-reference.com, Field of Schemes & Howard Bloom’s SBN because I’m a sports business news nerd but, as a taxpayer it just ends up making my blood boil. Yahoo as a last resort which I usually get sucked by a few articles after I log out of email. I still get most of my news from local TV & a little from Twitter. As for radio, I listen to NPR WBEZ 91.5 FM & PBS-style music stations like WDCB 90.9 FM. I can’t listen to sports/talk radio or rock music stations anymore. I can’t stand the repetition & sports talk seems to be a bunch of loudmouths that aren’t Old School fans and only use the show to display their own superiority.
But I come here because I love food (be it cooking or junk food).
Top five daily: Grubgrade, OnSecondScoop, Nicaliving, Lagunadeapoyoblogspot and dailypress.com
ESPN, Deadspin, Grantland, Rotoworld, and Cracked. I do work for a nightly sports show so that drives a lot of my internet usage. But this site, impulsive buy, second scoop, and grub grade get plenty of clicks from me as well!
Ok, top 5…..I am an entertainment junkie so….
Gawker, Naughty but Nice Rob, tripadvisor (to keep up on Chilean restaurants), Food 52 ( for really great recipes) and WGRZ (for my Buffalo news)
Now JFG, following up on the mixes from the other Muddy Buddy conversation, these are going to be mixed with PB Puffins and Chocolate Chex immediately. Nice!
What did I say, these Pacers are a self destructing joke.

haha, you’re such funny guy! I usually visit a couple food blogs, youtube, yahoo, and gmail. And i think that muddy buddies is just a term that the company uses to sell their products because a lot of people only know muddy buddies as muddy buddies, not by other names.
