Today’s junk food: Häagen-Dazs Pistachio Gelato!
My friends over at OnSecondScoop are my resource for all things ice cream, and especially for Häagen-Dazs reviews, but I knew when I saw this Häagen-Dazs Pistachio Gelato, I had to try it. I’ve done a decent amount of Häagen-Dazs reviews in the past, but I think this would be my first pistachio review ever on this blog.
I don’t know why it took me so long to do a pistachio ice cream review…it’s one of my dad’s favorites and I grew up eating it. I guess I just was never sure if it would be interesting enough to cover, or good enough, quite frankly. You’ve got a task in front of you, Häagen-Dazs Pistachio Gelato.
Häagen-Dazs Pistachio Gelato contains only 7-8 ingredients. I like that.
Häagen-Dazs Pistachio Gelato has a simple look – it does not appear that there are HUGE pistachio pieces in this.
Instead, in line with the past H-D Gelatos, this Häagen-Dazs Pistachio Gelato looks smooth as silk with TINY TINY pureed bits of pistachio embedded throughout. Time for a spoonful…
WHOA. This Häagen-Dazs Pistachio Gelato was good. Like, really good. But (and I think this goes without saying), you’ll only really love it if are a pistachio fan. If not, this is a good flavor. If so, this is an excellent flavor.
If you ARE a pistachio fan, listen up – this basically tastes like pureed pistachios blended with cream and sugar and then frozen. That’s it. There’s really no other way to describe this simple and delicious flavor. With each bite, I thought “THIS TASTES EXACTLY LIKE PISTACHIOS.” You take the full flavor of the pistachio, make it sweet, make it creamy, and chill it.
It basically tastes like homemade restaurant-style gelato, but in a tub in my freezer. Smooth as silk, and extremely creamy. Bravo, Häagen-Dazs. A very simple flavor that was just executed perfectly. Not much else to say but that.
PURCHASED AT: Walmart
COST: $3.88 each

Sounds yummy, they should use this same technique and make it with roasted salted cashews!
@Sarah: HMMM such an interesting concept. Just straight up pureed cashew ice cream? TASTY
I can’t cheat on my beloved Talenti Sicilian Pistachio, which doesn’t contain corn syrup like the Haggen-Dazs, but is about the same price.
@Mike N. Ah, that is a good one. Talenti still ranks as my favorite everything
They should had sprinkled pistachios on top to resemble real gelato style that you see in the gelato parlors out there.
@Alek: Now that would’ve been gourmet! Sort of like how Breyers is doing something like that for their gelatos
I like the smoothness, but I was expecting to have little bits and pieces of pistachio. A little disappointed with that but all in all the flavor was good
@Kat: Yeah – it’s clear they were trying to go as smooth as possible.
