Junk Food Nation, if you live on the Eastern coast, like me, you probably felt yesterday’s earthquake. 5.9-er. Then, if you were like me, you immediately tweeted about. Then you saw that NY, Philly, and NC also felt the earthquake. Then you had to climb down ten floors to the ground level of your office building, checking your Tweetdeck and trying to text your loved ones. Then Twitter and texting locked up because everyone was trying to text and Tweet, overloading everything.

After things simmered, and 3G / WiFi access came back online, the earthquake schtick on FB and Twitter began. First came people tweeting about how scared they were. Then came people hating on the people who were scared, telling them to grow a pair. Then came people hating on both groups, saying it was just an earthquake and if you didn’t die then shut up about it. Then came people posting joke pictures of tipped-over water bottles as evidence of “earthquake damage.” Then came people posting actual pictures of tipped-over water bottles as evidence of earthquake damage. Then came bars in DC, knowing people would be out, having $5.90 happy hours. A friend of mine even made this T-shirt to sell on his website.

Anyways, no matter where you were, it was certainly an interesting 30 seconds.  Today’s junk food: Peanut Butter Oreo Fudge Cremes!

The Money Shot

Everyone knows that Oreos are my favorite fruit.  The Fudge Cremes are a new phenomenon however, and I’m not sure I like anyone messing with the classics.  Oreo Cakesters are ehhh, and now this? There are four flavors – Original, Golden, Mint, and PB. Hmmmm.

I didn’t even bother buying a full package of them, preferring this smaller sample size, because I knew I was skeptical. Wait…these are Oreos with peanut butter creme covered in fudge… why am I skeptical again?  I dunno, I just like the original. Their website touts these Fudge Cremes as a new way to eat an Oreo. I liked the old way just fine, thanks.

Pretty clear product display: These are one half an Oreo, meaning one cookie plus the famous Oreo creme. This half is then covered with fudge, not unlike some Keebler cookies or Girl Scout cookies.

Will this taste good? Probably – it’s not rocket science, after all, it’s fudge. But I love the ability to twist and lick – part of the fun of an Oreo itself. Unless they think I’m going to lick off all the fudge first, which…I might, but that’s not the point.

Serving size - all of 'em!

The Serving size was the entire package – four cookies, which is nice. I was waiting for them to tell me that two of the four cookies was one serving. Not sure about this packaging though – it was basically just a hard piece of paper backing the cookies – no other protection.

Mmmmmm processed peanut butter filling

One bite, and it was as suspected.  Pretty tasty – but pretty predictable. It was half an Oreo with peanut butter filling covered in sweet fudge – what’s not to like?

I’ll tell you what’s not to like – it didn’t taste like an Oreo. Strong peanut butter flavoring, and gooey tasty fudge flavoring. But the cookie part? An afterthought.  Part of the reason I love Oreos is because they don’t taste like anything else, and nothing else tastes like it. But these Fudge Cremes represented virtually none of the classic Oreo flavor I enjoy.

If that’s what Oreos was going for, so be it.  I wasn’t a fan.
