Review: Talenti Alphonso Mango Sorbetto & Dodge, Duck, Dip, Dive and Dodge!…again? (Sequels That Should Have Never Been Made)
Junk Food Nation, today I found out from my local radio show some startling news: Vince Vaughn and Ben Stiller are coming out with Dodgeball 2!!! And my immediate thought was NOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
Look, I don’t care if you like the movies I like – I really enjoyed Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, and you can’t take that away from me. Justin Long in a semi-funny role? Vince Vaughn being…well, the same character he always plays? Christine Taylor looking smoking?? HOW CAN YOU NOT LIKE THIS MOVIE!? And of course, this scene:
I want to dress up a Purple Cobra every single Halloween.
But a sequel is a HORRIBLE idea! The movie ended so nicely – Average Joe’s gym was a success, White Goodman was fat, that pirate guy said YAAAARGH again, and all was well. NOW WHAT? Another Dodgeball tournament??? WHY MUST YOU TAINT A CLASSIC, FOX???
I mean, think of how many BAD sequels are out there. Hangover 2. Die Hard 5. Godfather 3. All the straight to DVD Bring It On films. AWFUL. And now this travesty. Sigh – I toss the question out to YOU, Junk Food Nation: How do you feel about Dodgeball 2, and what other sequels do you feel never should have been made? Tell me in the comments below.
Today’s junk food: Talenti Alphonso Mango Sorbetto!
You might’ve seen this Talenti Alphonso Mango Sorbetto when I saw it in stores earlier last week. Well, I went home having not bought this, and I thought about it. And thought about it. And dreamed about it. Until finally I was like EFF IT and got in the car and drove and BOUGHT THE LAST ONE. The very last one. Seriously, I went back to the Harris Teeter from whence it came and there is ZIPPY MANGO SORBET LEFT. I felt so lucky.
Talenti Alphonso Mango Sorbetto has six ingredients and two of them are sugar. EXCELLENT. Plus, it is made in a facility that uses eggs, gluten, milk, peanuts, soy and tree nuts, but this sorbetto has NONE of those things. Hoooo-kay.
Talenti Alphonso Mango Sorbetto has lots of calories, but who cares? I’ve reviewed Talenti once before, but have eaten TONS of Talenti in my day. They could contain frog ears and have 5000 calories, and I’d not speak evil of this wonderful company.
After unscrewing the lid to this Talenti Alphonso Mango Sorbetto, I was awed. It looked essentially like pureed frozen mango!! Wait…Alphonso Mangos? Which are, according to Wiki:
“Alphonso is a seasonal mango cultivation that is considered as one of the best in terms of sweetness, richness and flavor. It has considerable shelf life of a week after it is ripe making it exportable. It is also one of the most expensive kinds of mango and is grown mainly in largest region of western India. It is a seasonal fruit with each mango weighing between 150g and 300g each. This variety of mango has a very short season of about two months from the end of March till end May when the rain sets in the Konkan Region.”
Yeah…what that said. Time to taste:
Ok, wow. wow wow wow. I’ll just say it: If you like mangoes at all, you will LOVE LOVE LOVE this Talenti Alphonso Mango Sorbetto! The texture was smooooooooooooooooooooth and not icey at all. My spoon slid in and out with no problems. In fact, the LOOK of the sorbet looked like mango! When you pulled away a spoonful, the surface had those amazing ltiny rips/pockets, like the surface of a mango slice!
The color was great, and very appealing. But the taste – super sweet, fruity, and a tiny bit sour, I SWEAR like you wear eating the pureed frozen fruit. SO. GOOD. Cool, refreshing, and full of flavor. I’m sure the lemons helped keep the whole thing in the “fruity” range and out of the overly sweet range. Whatever the combo was, this was spot on. SPOT. ON.
An AMAZING sorbetto. Smooth, tasty, and perfect. MUST BUY.
PURCHASED AT: Harris Teeter
COST: $5.00

Like you, I was appalled by the news of Dodgeball 2. And next month comes Hangover 3, next year comes Anchorman 2…it never ends. Just to continue to beat dead horses, the Star Wars cash machine revs up again next year and every other year after that. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
As for Die Hard 5, it was a farce. The first three were classics, the fourth was a nice walk down memory lane, no matter how absurd it was, but the fifth was just a joke.
I’m just waiting for Titanic 2. It made a lot of money, so I’m surprised that they haven’t concocted some sort of sequel where Jack’s ghost haunts Rose for her entire life and she can never find true love. Basically, they could steal the plotline for the 90s movie “Ghost” and just change a few plot points. LOL.
@Ind. Eater: +1 all around, LOL
Glad you went back and tried this one. Now I need to find it and see how it compares to G.S. Gelato’s version. By the way, 130 calories per serving is far from a lot. That’s only 520 calories in the whole pint! Compared to other frozen desserts, this is pretty much the healthiest you’re going to get.
@Nick: Went back on your recommendation? And I guess you’re right – 520 is like two slices of pizza. Nice.
@Eric, confused with the question mark there. And I mean come on, the Haagen-Dazs you reviewed yesterday has more than double the amount of calories and is two ounces smaller!
@Nick: Mistaken “?”…. should’ve been: “Went back on your recommendation!” 🙂
@Eric, okay, it all makes sense now. Good to know I have influence over your decisions.Now go buy me a lexus is250.
Adam Sandler is coming out with Grownups 2 this summer. I have no idea how that even got greenlit…
@Teresapalooza: AWFUL!
I have never seen dodgeball.. It came out when I was a young child, but I want to see it.
Im one of the people who actually like sequels. I thought Hangvoer 2 was good. not as good as the first one, but good. The harry potter movies were good, but that was a series.
As for the sherbert, i have always wanted to try that flavor.
Excellent blog as usual!
@Susie: Oh you should. Geeky classic, IMO. I didn’t hate Hangover 2, but definitely thought it was not as good as 1. And I don’t count the Harry Potter series, since those tracked with the books.
Also, a bad sequel: Indiana Jones 4. WHY, HARRISON FORD, WHY???
Thanks for reading, Susie! 🙂
Disney is notorious for putting out lots of sub-par sequels. Seems like they’ve been contributing to this epidemic for a long time. Little Mermaid 2, All the Aladdins, Lion King 1/12, Cars 2 & many (MANY) more.
ENOUGH!
* Sorry, I meant Lion King one and a half, not one twelfth lol.
@Brit – there’s a Lion King 1 and a half??? UGH
Just read the beginning and that entrance is how me and my back up goalie would start our warm ups before soccer games aha.
@Nick – LOL
There are sequels to good movies, and then there are sequels to crappy movies.
Sequels to good movies are as you described: Indiana Jones 4, Godfather III,
Dammit – hit Post by accident…
I’m also going to throw Jurrasic Park III and Speed II: Cruise Control into the “sequels to good movies” list.
But then there’s sequels that shouldn’t have been made TO FILMS THAT SHOUDLN’T HAVE BEEN MADE EITHER: Scooby Doo II, Anaconda II, and Piranha 3DD. Yikes.
@Shorneys: Yeah, but re: Piranha 3DD…boobs. That is all.
I only had the immense pleasure of trying that sorbet once, and since then its been sold out of all the stores i’ve seen talenti at in Baltimore!! Just makes me sad!!
@Harry: COME TO DC! It’s all over down here.
The Matrix trilogy. Actually you know what? There’s only one Matrix movie. Just like how there’s only one Pirates of the Caribbean.
At least Will Ferrell has some integrity and does not want an Elf 2.
