HELP ME FIX MY CAR (& Found: American Style Cream & Onion Lay’s Potato Chips)

Junk Food Nation, HELP ME FIX MY CAR! I have a 2000 Honda Accord. And apparently, according to the police that showed up and banged on my door last night (what the), the car alarm goes off for hours at random and is driving my neighbors NUTSO.  And I feel bad – but I have no idea what to do! Did Superstorm Sandy do this?

It’s a factory alarm, and the manual says it is tied into the engine – meaning the car won’t start when the alarm is going off.  Plus, the “alarm” is really just my car horn beeping incessantly, while the lights flash.  So I can’t just unhook the horn – soooo not safe.

Web articles say to open the dashboard (???) and find the alarm sensitivity dial and turn it down. Some others say to replace the batteries in my key fobs.  And still another article says this is what happens when the battery is about to die.

All I know is this – I have WAY too much to do over the next few days to worry about my car alarm. My Gmail’s not working, my pants barely fit, and I’m scheduled to attend the DC Metro Cooking show in two days – GAAAAAAAH – so HELP ME, Junk Food Nation!  Give me all of your suggestions in the comments.

Meanwhile, I found these in the Korean Grocery the other day, in the South Asian / Indian junk food aisle: American Style Cream & Onion Lay’s Potato Chips!

American Style Cream & Onion Lay’s Potato Chips: The Money Shot

That’s right! These are chips MADE by Lay’s India REFERENCING a US flavor that LAY’S ALREADY MAKES IN THE US.  American Style Cream and Onion???  Something doesn’t sound right there. Still I can appreciate the effort, and wonder what South Asians think about this flavor in Mumbai?

Anywho, sorry for the short post – I have to get back to trying to figure out why my old ass car is sucking.  HELP ME!

Thoughts? Please comment below (I always reply) or hit me up on Twitter @junkfoodguy or LIKE my Facebook Page and message me there. Also, you can always email me at junkfoodguy@junkfoodguy.com. Let’s hang out.

Sincerely,

Bring it to the Shell station on CT just north of Ellicott Street. David will be able to fix it, and he is really reasonably priced. He usually is able to take care of issues the same day you drop it off.

Erika’s idea sounds good 🙂 Car trouble always sucks!!
Funny thing is, we have a 2000 Honda Accord (black coupe) too! We’ve never experienced that issue, and we are most definitely not car people, so our advice is bring it in somewhere, or just unhook your battery at night so it doesn’t piss your neighbors off. Good luck!

We think it is pretty cool that Sour Cream and Onion is referenced as a US flavor!! We’re proud to wave that flavor flag!

Huh? Why not just call it “Sour Cream & Onion” and be done with it?

Don’t lie, asians don’t own cars *irritating snickering*. On a serious note though, I’ve been around cars most of my life and I would say to go have it checked out because it can be any number of things. There’s no use haing you fooling around with it and possibly making things worse.

I might be able to talk you through it…

You’re gonna need some pliers and a set of thirty weight ball bearings. Then you prepare the Fetzer valve with some 3-in-1 oil and some gauze pads. And you’re gonna need about ten quarts of anti-freeze, preferably Prestone. No, no make that Quaker State.

Then take it to a decent mechanic and just pay him to fix it. I find that usually works best.

I’ll go to the DC Metro Cooking Show for you. It’s the least I can do: take that one thing off your mind. No big deal, really.

Mine was doing this (I have a 2004 Saturn Ion Redline though) and it turns out that the sensor attached to the door was going out. My alarm would just go off at random times at night and during the day. There is a stick looking thing that gets pushed in when the door closes that tells the alarm when the door is closed. I replaced it and the alarm stopped going nutso. I would maybe just look into that since its a quick and inexpensive fix that might work.

Please please please could you tell me the address you found this in. I’ve been in the States for 7 months and these Lay’s are the only things I’m craving from back home.
