Review: Limited Edition Peeps Oreo & 1) Do You Like Peeps, and 2) Are Peeps The Only Food People Like Stale?
JFG Nation, people either love or they hate Peeps. I have no idea why they are so divisive. When people see Peeps they either go goo goo over them or they make a face like they’re trying to ward off curse. So, tell me in the comments, definitively – do you, or do you not, like Peeps?
More than often those who LIKE Peeps say the same thing: that they like them a little bit stale. When Peeps are a little stale, the outside is a little chewier, and the normally squishy Peep is a little bit more…I dunno, Taffy-like? That’s not the right comparison, but you know what I mean. They end a little more rigid and bite-able. It got me thinking: are Peeps the only food that most enjoy a bit more stale than usual? Is there anything else that is the same?
I had a friend once who preferred her soda a bit more flat. Yikes. Dubba, from On Second Scoop, said he preferred the Cookie Dough Oreos a bit more air-exposed. *Shudder* But what else, JFG Nation? Is there any other food/candy/edible stuffs that you prefer…well, just left out a bit?
Prefer cold pizza over hot pizza? Prefer cold fries to hot fries? Tell me your weird food habits. Let me know in the comments below.
Today’s junk food: Limited Edition Peeps Oreo!!
Ah, Peeps Oreo. Ever since I broke this story back in October, I’ve been waiting for these with anticipation. When we discussed them on the Nosh Show, 3 out of 4 of us said NOSH! Me included. So let’s do it.
DOES THIS TASTE GOOD? YES.
WHY OR WHY NOT? When I opened the Oreos up and sniffed with my eyes closed, a distinct marshmallow flavor was detected. In fact, I knew exactly what these would taste like: Marshmallow Crispy Oreos. And when I bit into them and chewed, sure enough, that is exactly what I tasted.
Oreo took the distinctly marshmallow flavored creme they used in their Marshmallow Crispy Oreo, dyed it bright pink, and then slathered that inside this Oreo. The result? Well, I loved the Marshmallow Crispy Oreos, and these were no different – the flavor paired really well with the Golden Oreo, and the combo was a sweet sweet flavor bomb. Instead of tiny rice pieces, these Peeps Oreos had large sugar crystals to help give that “Peeps” flair. The last picture above shows (sort of) how the large sugar crystals appeared throughout the creme. They added a nice texture to the cookie and crunching on the sugar crystals was really really pleasant for a junk foodie like me.
Overall? Sure, call these Peeps Oreos if you want. But really they are just a delicious sweet marshmallow Oreo. I liked these a lot.
ANYTHING ELSE I SHOULD KNOW? Dude, the creme turned my saliva bright pink! BRIGHT PINK! This is sort of horrifying – this is the type of food dye where an hour later, when I went to brush my teeth, IT TURNED MY TOOTHBRUSH PINK. What the heck. WHAT THE HECK.
PURCHASED AT? Sent to me, but these have widespread distribution to Walmart and grocery stores.
WHERE FOUND IN STORE? I’m guessing in the seasonal or cookie aisle.
COST? ~$3.00.
Sincerely,
The JFG

I do eat stale crackers in my chicken and veggie mix I take for lunch. Peeps never get a chance to get stale around me. I prefer almost any potatoes cold (fries included), and I do not want ketchup anywhere near my fries.
Personally, I think Oreo could have done one better and added Peeps eyes. And now, what about a cookies ‘n cream peep? Or a Peeps S’moreo?
But was your poop pink? Inquiring minds want to know!
I put mustard on mashed potatoes instead of gravy. I suppose people might find that odd.
Ketchup and Mustard on Fritos, delicious!
One of my bosses preferred stale Red Vines over fresh ones. I’m not a licorice fan myself, so I don’t have a preference
Red Vines actually aren’t licorice, they are just red twists. They don’t contain any Licorice.
I am in the anti-carbonation category. Carbonation is a flavor stealer! I drink flavored water and upon opening, I immediately get rid of the carbonation through vigorous shaking.
I like chicken wings cold. Especially boneless.
I like fresh Peeps. Stale Peeps are like stale meringue. Ew, no. But to each their own.
I’ve seen this Oreos at work, but I haven’t tried them.
I prefer soggy cereal.
I am a fan of stale Peeps. I think the added chewiness to the texture elevates the overall experience.
I also enjoy popcorn which has been exposed to air and gotten a but “chewy.”
Never met anyone else with this same preference but I love the texture of popcorn that’s been left out overnight.
I’m a sucker for the popcorn kernels that didn’t pop.
Stale brownies! Anyone?
I think these fail b/c they can’t be made into twee dioramas that everyone seems to like for some reason.
Stale graham crackers – I actually open all of the vacuum sealed packages when I get them home to get them stale as fast as possible.
I love peeps ,but they do not taste like peeps. The were still good though. They also make your tongue bright pink.
I prefer to let packaged ginger snaps go stale. It makes them less hard and crunchy, more slightly crisp outside- while chewy inside. Only ginger snaps though!
I think these taste good at first, but then the aftertaste hits and it’s disgustingly artificial. Is that the flavor of the red 3 dye? I’m surprised no one else has mentioned it.
Yes, I agree , the after taste is HORRIBLE. My grandson won’t even eat the peeps oreos – he says “they have too much dye flavor for me” I was surprised no one else had mentioned it either. I loved the cookie part, and Peeps are my favorite – fresh or stale – I just love them. I will stick with the real thing – will not buy the peeps oreos again. very disappointed. (and I wasn’t aware that the sugar crystals were supposed to be like that until I read this review – I was afraid at first they were glass bits – lol – but of course I tested and the dissolved – so all was safe for the kids to try them.
MINE TASTES SO FKN BITTER
Filling has too much pink food coloring and it tastes like chemical. Not safe.
don’t know why but i eat crackers in every food!! hahaha, some of you might lough but at morning breakfast I must need cookies!
