Review: Limited Edition Snickerdoodle Drizzle PopCorners Minis & What “Healthy” Cereal Do You Eat?

JFG Nation, crowdsourcing a question: I need a new “healthy” cereal to eat. I know most cereals, even “healthy” cereals are probably NOT that healthy, but after a steady stream of Mini Wheats and Grape Nuts over the years, I need something new. What do you like, if you ever buy “healthy” cereals?

Suggest anything, old or new, in the comments below. All Bran? Cascadian Farms? Some sort of Kashi cereal? Simple big ass Wheats? I’m open to all ideas. Tell me, please.

Today’s junk food: Limited Edition Snickerdoodle Drizzle PopCorners Minis!!

Limited Edition Snickerdoodle Drizzle PopCorners Minis were bought the same time I got the Double-Up Fudge version. When it comes to Chocolate vs. Cinnamon, I have to admit – I tend to be more of a Cinnamon guy. I know I might be speaking blasphemy right now.

When i opened the bag of Limited Edition Snickerdoodle Drizzle PopCorners Minis, I could instantly smell cinnamon and butter. It was the best. It was like smelling fresh Snickerdoodle cookies, but I also smelled popcorn – the mixture of sweet and corn actually reminded me a lot of smelling a box of sweet cereal. Not quite Cinnamon Toast Crunch, but something along those lines.

I popped a few of these small Limited Edition Snickerdoodle Drizzle PopCorners Minis into my mouth, crunched, and OMG these were good. Like, really good. I immediately ranked these above the Double-Up Fudge.

First, the generally sweet corn flavor of the PopCorner chip reminded me a LOT of Kellogg’s Corn Pops. Sweet, bright, and texture-wise light and crunchy. REALLY good. Add on top of that a generous dose of cinnamon, and then a nice sweet icing for that pop of sugar, and these tasted EXACTLY like I’d expect them too – like you merged popcorn with a Snickerdoodle cookies and drizzled frosting all over it. While I tend to like real Snickerdoodle cookies to be as simple as possible – clean dough, cinnamon, sugar, that’s it – the more exaggerated flavor profile worked here. The extra drizzle helped push the flavor profile out of just “Sweet Popcorn” range.

BUY. BUY BUY. NOW.

PURCHASED AT: Giant Food, Bethesda, MD.

FOUND AT: Individual cardboard standup in the chip aisle.

COST: 2 for $8

Sincerely,

The JFG

  1. Firm believer in all things healthy in moderation…although I’m a huge fan of the flavored mini-wheats and various Special K cereals. But I’d rather have Reese’s puffs. I eat mine in a Greek Yogurt parfait with a banana so it’s still healthy, right?

(Having said that, my morning carb yesterday was my beloved Red Velvet Pop Tart and today…leftover egg noodles)

  2. Sean E. says:

Cinnamon all DAY!!! This little cinna-slut is hunting for these no doubt

  3. MP says:

I eat Post Great Gains. They always have at least 5 varieties that all have dried fruit, seeds, nuts, grains, etc. Crunchy & not too sweet. I’ve actually made my own Grape Nuts (it’s literally just buttermilk & wheat flour) & I’ll add that and/or with dry Quaker oats to my bowl of cereal. Once in a while I’ll add some chocolate syrup to the milk if I’m craving it.

  4. Lacy says:

    Cheerios all day every day!

  5. Anne Sutton says:

We do adore Cheerio’s in my house too. However, I just tried the new Bear Naked Cereal (found at wal-mart), and we all loved it.

  6. M says:

Cereal is a terrible breakfast choice. Eggs and meat, best breakfast possible. 5 eggs and some Canadian bacon!

  7. Kristen says:

Special K Vanilla Almond. Maybe more of a “light” cereal than a nourishing cereal, but it is delicious.

  8. Morgan Medeiros says:

I love seeing nutrition Q’s posed on blogs (especially this one- such a fun blogging concept! I love blogs that stay up on food innovation). If you ever want a Nutritionist’s take on a product, I have an MS in Clinical Nutrition and work as a restaurant and product consultant. Keep up the blog, you’re fun to follow!

  9. Alice says:

I do either Corn Chex with added ground flaxseed meal and raisins OR plain oatmeal with added raisins, cinnamon, ginger, and ground cloves. The additions in both are to boost the nutrition and flavor.

  10. Tenko says:

Big Ass Shredded Wheat is the best healthy cereal. It’s the only sugar free cereal that doesn’t taste sad. My parents are hippies, so I ate all the sugar free cereals. All of them. They were awful! Oddly enough, even though Grape Nuts have sugar, they’re the worst cereal I’ve ever eaten and my mom would never buy them. My dad would, but never ate them.

  11. Merissa says:

I am all about raisin bran.

  12. Kelly says:

Oatmeal, all the way. There are so many ways to doctor it up so you have something new every day!

  13. Sue says:

Special K Nourish Coconut Cranberry Almond. Must try if you like real coconut shavings and I like the sliced almonds just like in honey bunches of oats. This one is a little better than just straight granola because the flakes lighten the calorie load per serving somewhat.
This is my current hidden gem, delicous but good for you too.

  14. Sascha says:

I’m simple. I like a good bowl of honey bunches of oats or muesli.

  15. Julee says:

I won’t put down the other comments But
Natures Path Heritage Flakes are the best
    tasting heathy cereal out there.

  16. Katie B says:

A blend of Frosted Cheerios mixed with Fiber One is tasty and somewhat nutritious.

  17. J says:

Kellogg’s Product 19, except after years of limiting distribution, they killed it the rest of the way this past year. Sigh.

  18. DeannaS says:

I haven’t had them in years, but Kix are the perfect blend of comforting corn crunch and simple sweetness. I also enjoy adding Kashi Go Lean to yogurt since it doesn’t have much taste on its own.
