Review: Quest Beyond Cinnamon Roll Cereal Protein Bar & Ketchup: On Your Fries, or On the Side?
JFG Nation, it’s time to settle an important disagreement tearing this nation apart right now. No, not that. KETCHUP: On top of your fries or on the side of your fries?
I’ll give you the scenario: Ballgame. You have one of those red and white paper boat trays full of hot fries, and you walk over to that station where the ketchup hose is. Or maybe it’s one of those weird bright red rubber bottles. Whatever the case – you’re about to load up on the lycopene sauce. WHAT DO YOU DO? Ketchup all over the top, or on the side in a big messy pile and then you dip?
There are some advantages and disadvantages to both? Ketchup on top and you assure yourself even distribution. You can design the pattern of your french fry demise. BUT, then your fingers are guaranteed to be COVERED in ketchup during the entire feast.
Ketchup on the side? No messy fingers! Plus, you can control how much you dip, how much ketchup is on each fry, etc. Drawback: That spot where you snowpiled all your ketchup? Those fries are basically submerged in ketchup and you have to pair them with completely un-ketchuped fries to make them edible.
Me? I’ve done both, but I tend to lean ketchup on the side BECAUSE I’M NOT A HEATHEN. Still, I’ve done the ketchup lattice over all of my fries before when I was feeling frisky.
So which way is correct, JFG Nation? Let me know in the comments below.
Today’s review: Quest Beyond Cinnamon Roll Cereal Protein Bars!
JFG Nation, I expressed during this post that I wasn’t sure if I was the right person to be reviewing Quest bars for a variety of reasons. Then Quest up and sends me a whole slew of Quest bars, including the three “Cereal Protein Bars” you see above! Well, now I HAVE to review these. THANKS, QUEST. PEER PRESSURE MUCH?
Kidding; I’m not really complaining. I’ll start with these Quest Beyond Cinnamon Roll Cereal Protein Bars!
Quest Beyond Cinnamon Roll Cereal Protein Bars have lots of good stuff in them, including…Allulose?? Ok, Quest, what chemical am I endorsing here?
Ah, so THAT’S what Allulose is. Sounds mighty non-fatal. Nice job calling out the FDA too. STOP MAKING US CALL THIS SUGAR, FDA. YOU’RE THE WORST.
I will say, I like how this Quest Beyond Cinnamon Roll Cereal Protein Bar doesn’t actually contain any cereal. Protein Blend? Sounds like Soylent.
Quest Beyond Cinnamon Roll Cereal Protein Bars are relatively small, like most granola or cereal bars I’ve eaten recently. The last time I had a Quaker granola bar, I couldn’t believe it….were they always that small? Anyways, this Quest bar wasn’t huge – maybe 4″x1″.
As soon as I opened the Quest Beyond Cinnamon Roll Cereal Protein Bar, I SMELLED cinnamon roll – no doubt. These were cinnamon-y and sweet smelling. Did I just walk into a Cinnabon? Nope, I’m kneeling in my living room taking pictures of a cereal bar with my iPhone. Same same.
I bit into this Quest Beyond Cinnamon Roll Cereal Protein Bar, and I have to say – NOT BAD. Actually, quite good. The flavor was really sweet, and reminded me immediately of a cinnamon roll – super sweet, super cinnamon-y, and the icing on top gave me that reat frosted finish that I want from a cinnamon roll. Flavor – spot on.
Texture – this was standard cereal bar / granola bar texture. Chewed easily and had a nice lightly gooey/adhesive feel when I pulled the bar apart. Noticeably less sticky than a standard granola bar, of course (no corn syrup here), but the overall feel was very similar.
All in all, I liked this a lot. Good flavor, good texture, and the allulose wasn’t bad either – no weird fake sugar aftertaste like I’ve gotten with other replacement sugars.
Ok, Quest….not bad. Correction: good. Really good. I’d definitely eat these again. What’re your thoughts, people who work out? Let me know in the comments below.

No ketchup at all for me. I lost my taste for it a long time ago. I will eat my fries plain before I use ketchup, although I do like malt vinegar, gravy (poor man’s poutine) or whatever I’m dipping my chicken tenders into.
REALLY looking forward to a review on the waffle flavor!
Ketchup on the side, no question. I need to be in total control of my fry dipping, and I am willing to sacrifice a few overketchupped fries to maintain such control.
This bar sounds gross to me, I must confess. I have been spoiled by learning how easy it is to make my own oatmeal bars, which taste good.
Well I’d throw the tub of ketchup into the trash where it belongs 😛
If we’re talking mayonnaise, queso, vinegar, dipping sauce, etc then of course it has to be on the side. Soggy fries are just sad. Could never get into chili fries, poutine, etc.
As someone who has been a member of Quest Labs and have been obsessed with eating these bars for months now, I can say it’s not a bar I’d seek out to help when I’m working out. It’s more of a small in between protein snack to keep me full for as little calories and as much flavor as I can manage while being convenient. The cinnamon is definitely my favorite out of the bunch. If you didn’t try the others yet it’s a shame this was your first one since the others will never be able to live up, but the chocolate was probably the second closest and reminds me sort of a deep fried oreo in a way (make sure you microwave it for about 10-15 seconds)!
As for the ketchup question, definitely on the side, for everything! If you put it on the fries you’re forced to burn your mouth and eat them all before the ketchup makes them soggy. Not to mention I’m a slut for ketchup, having it as a dip allows me to kind of use the fry as a Fun Dip stick to get as much bang for my buck in ketchup terms. I also love dipping my burgers in it more than having it on the burger since the ratio is never enough for me (I must have each bite covered in the stuff). When you read statistics on Americans’ ketchup consumption, I probably account for half of that. Just saying. 😉
100% ketchup on the side ALL DAY! I like to choose as I dip and I also don’t like the sog factor from pouring on top.
Quest Beyond Cereal are great. My hands down favorite is waffle with cinnamon in second. I’m curious what you think of the rest of the line.
