Today’s review: Utz Wavy HeluvaGood! Bacon Horseradish Potato Chips!!

What can I say about these Utz Wavy HeluvaGood! Bacon Horseradish Potato Chips? First, I learned about HeluvaGood! dip waaaay back in the day from my Doctor Sis. Growing up, I lived in the sheltered world of Doritos and regular flavored potato chips. But when the Doctor Sis came back from college and introduced the concept of DIPS?! MY MIND WAS BLOWN.

So I’ve liked HeluvaGood! for a long time. These chips tasted good, but weren’t what I was expecting. Once I opened the bag, I could definitely smell horseradish. That spicy aroma was unmistakeable. The Wavy Utz chips were standard and good – light, slightly puffy, and crisp. The flavor of the horseradish was biting but not crushing – after the initial tinge it faded into the creamier background. The bacon flavor was present too – a slight porkiness that range slightly artificial but in perfect balance with the horseradish flavor. Overall, these were just a well balanced, well executed chip.

So why weren’t these what I was expecting? Because I mistakenly thought these would taste like a chip DIPPED in dip…I expected the creaminess to be AMPED UP, but it wasn’t. Utz went for balance and a bit more subtlety.

Still, I give these a BUY rating. Like ’em.
