Today’s junk food: Ruffles York’eso Chips!!

Ruffles York’eso Chips are another Ruffles chip I brought home from Spain. The bag features rolls of ham and bits of cheese.

Google explains that the word York’eso is a clever play on York plus queso, or cheese. York refers to York ham, a British way of sweet curing ham that exists in Spain. So these are sweet ham and cheese chips.

I wasn’t totally sold yesterday’s Jamon chips because the awesome jamon flavor was slightly overpowered by the underlying Ruffles. Would these Ruffles York’eso Chips be different?

When I opened the bag, I couldn’t smell anything distinct. Potato chip, and maybe a tiny bit of cheese and pork. But not much. I popped a few chips in my mouth and…

WHOA. These Ruffles York’eso Chips had HUGE FLAVOR. As soon as I chomped the strong and bold flavor of Manchego cheese came ripping through. It was unmistakeable – manchego manchego machego. Sweet, pungent, and it really paired perfectly on the chip.

Then, as I chewed more, a bit of sweet perkiness came out. The dominant flavor was certainly the cheese but the overall flavor definitely reminded me of the jamon and cheese sandwiches I had a bunch of times in Spain.

WOW these were good. That cheese flavor was SPOT ON. Good crunch, great balance, really nice execution of the flavor that wasn’t overpowered by the chip at all.

I would buy these again NOW. Dang — next time, Spain.
