Review: Pringles LOUD Intensely Tangy Tomato Basil & Introducing the Ridiculous Hamdog

JFG Nation, last night my Actor Sis sent me this:

Yes, you’re seeing that right. A combo hamburger and hot dog with a weird ass bun. It’s being sold in Australia with this description:

“Conceived in 2004, the $8 Hamdog consists of a Bunbury beef patty cut in half, with a Hunsa frankfurt inserted in the middle. It’s topped with lettuce, tomato, cheese, pickles and three sauces – American mustard, tomato sauce and mayonnaise.”

I’m assuming “tomato sauce” in Aussie land is just ketchup. Still, this sandwich seems ridiculous. And it looks ridiculous and extremely phallic. While I would probably still nosh this, the question remains: WHY does this exist? Have people been clamoring for a hot dog / hamburger combo and I’ve just been blind to it?

Let me know if you’d nosh or not this absurd contraption in the comments below.

Today’s junk food: Pringles LOUD Intensely Tangy Tomato Basil!!

Pringles LOUD Intensely Tangy Tomato Basil are the second in the line of LOUD Pringles coming to a family Dollar this January. And to answer a comment / question I received yesterday, no – these aren’t especially crispy chips. The LOUD designation definitely is not related to the sound of the chomp.

Pringles LOUD Intensely Tangy Tomato Basil features a grain and veggie crisp, which is new – not your standard potato starch chip or the tortilla that yesterday’s chip used.

When I opened these Pringles LOUD Intensely Tangy Tomato Basil chips, I could smell the tomato powder and the garlic….not a ton of basil smell.

The chips themselves looked interesting – the composition of the chip reminded me of a Pringles tortilla but it was slightly yellow and …light green tinged?

I chomped some of these Pringles LOUD Intensely Tangy Tomato Basil chips and I have to admit – these were really really good. At first when I tried them, after a long day of eating, I thought the flavor was there but a bit weak.

I tried them again this morning, however, with an untrained mouth and the flavor of the tomato REALLY came through. While the basil flavor was more subtle, it was definitely present to highlight the tomato flavor. The tanginess was indeed bold; it tasted like a super fresh tomato. The buildup of tang and tomato flavor grew with each chip. I barely noticed I was eating a veggie crisp.

All in all, I enjoyed these a lot, way more than the Spicy Queso version. These were not as salty and had a decently bold flavor. Buy.

Purchased at: Coming up, Q1, Family Dollar

Cost: I’m sure they’ll be decently cheap

Sincerely,

The JFG

Sure I’d eat it. We grew up eating hamburgers and hotdogs together. Seems like a way to mainstream the eating process.

Not, because ketchup doesn’t belong anywhere near a hot dog. Even without ketchup, I’m never one to mix meats – a chili dog, chicken cordon bleu, or sausage in an Italian Beef never appealed to me.
