MICRO-REVIEW: Emerald Honey Roasted Virginia Peanuts, Chocolate Glazed Virginia Peanuts

JFG Nation, uck – after yesterday’s Swedish Fish Oreo debacle, I needed to actually eat something good to get the horrid taste out of my mouth. Thankfully, the good people at Emerald Nuts sent over some great stuff to try, so let’s get to it.

Today’s junk food: Emerald Honey Roasted Virginia Peanuts & Chocolate Glazed Virginia Peanuts!!

I love Emerald Nuts, but for some reason I can only envision Emerald Nuts coming in those round thermos-like containers. Turns out, Emerald Nuts has a SLEW of products, including these big 10 oz sacks of Honey Roasted Virginia Peanuts & Chocolate Glazed Virginia Peanuts. Here’s the buzz sheet:

Emerald’s Virginia Peanuts are the largest type of peanut out there and a great snack for summertime – from a trip to the beach, baseball games or a summer cookout. They offer a bigger and bolder spin on your average peanuts, so you can get your sweet or spicy fix anywhere.”

First: Emerald Honey Roasted Virginia Peanuts!!

Emerald Honey Roasted Virginia Peanuts are nice and long and super crispy – a hallmark of Virginia peanuts. The honey glazed flavor on top of these was almost candy brittle-like – the candy glaze stuck to the peanuts well and the overall flavor was less honey, more toffee flavor. The peanut flavor came through well; the balance of sweet and salt was perfect – a good 60/40 mix.

Second: Emerald Chocolate Glazed Virginia Peanuts!!

Emerald Chocolate Glazed Virginia Peanuts were not as sweet as I expected, which isn’t a bad thing. The chocolate glaze was candy, so these were not typical “chocolate covered peanuts.” Instead, like the honey glazed version, the chocolate covering was brittle-like. The flavor was of a sweeter dark-chocolate, with a definite deep cocoa flavor. These were less sweet than the honey glazed ones; the balance of sweet salty was more 50/50 on these.

Overall, just two solidly executed sweet glazed peanuts. The Virginia peanuts were a good choice, since the long shape allowed for more sweet glaze coverage. Loved both of these. Ate way too many.

The JFG
