Review: New Chips Ahoy! Thins (Original & Cinnamon Sugar) & What Other Snack Would You Like To See “THINNED”?

JFG Nation, I’m reviewing Chips Ahoy! Thins today, and it got me thinking: What other snack would you like to see “THINNED” out? Oreos and Wheat Thins have already been tackled. But what’s next? Twinkie Thins? Cheeto Thins? Snoball Thins? Let me know in the comments below and describe what they’d look like.

Today’s junk food: New Chips Ahoy! Thins (Original and Cinnamon Sugar)!!

New Chips Ahoy! Thins: The Money Shot

As I noted, New Chips Ahoy! Thins come on the heels of the surprisingly awesome Oreo Thins and just MEH Even Thinner Wheat Thins. I expressed my doubts about these Chips Ahoy! Thins on the Nosh Show, since there are already so many “cookie chip” companies out there doing the same thing. But, with an open mouth, I gave these a try.

First: New Chips Ahoy! Original Thins!

As soon as I opened these New Chips Ahoy! Original Thins, big chocolate chip aroma came tumbling out. Even the JFGal, who was across the room, commented that she could smell them. I munched on one cookie and yes, these are very very good. No real WOW factor, just good execution. They taste like a very good thin chocolate chip cookie – very light crumbly dough, plenty of chocolate chip flavor, with a decent amount of buttery flavor. One plus: not as oily/greasy as regular crunchy Chips Ahoy! cookies. These definitely felt lighter. How do they compare to, say, Hannah Max? Hannah Max was definitely more of a thin cookie “chip” – these were a little thicker. Both good, but I definitely felt like these Thins were more of an actual cookie than the Hannah Max variety.

Next: New Chips Ahoy! Cinnamon Sugar Thins!

I worried about these New Chips Ahoy! Cinnamon Sugar Thins on the Nosh Show, and my fears were confirmed. WHERE’s the heavy dusting of cinnamon and sugar on the outside of the cookie??? Non-existent. A definite missed opportunity. If you’re gonna call these a cinnamon sugar cookie, I WANNA SEE THOSE TWO THINGS EVERYWHERE. I want these to be thin snickerdoodles overloaded with flavor. But no.

Instead, the thin cookie itself tasted of heavy cinnamon, and the sweetness was provided by the non-descript confection chips embedded in the cookie. I won’t hate too much – these tasted good, like a crunchy thin snickerdoodle – but they could’ve been AMAZING. They could’ve been loaded with cinnamon and sugar and made me think of the holidays.

All in all, I liked both of these Chips Ahoy! Thins, but nothing new and groundbreaking. Good execution on the Original variety, and missed opportunities on the Cinnamon Sugar. Both tasted good, but I’m not sure I’d buy them again like I have the Oreo Thins.

Purchased at: Wegmans, Germantown, MD.

Price: $2.00 each, on sale.

Sincerely,

The JFG

I would like to see Oreo Thins thinned. Then we could get ever closer to Zenoreo’s Paradox. You can keep thinning the cookie, but at what point is it no longer dessert?

  2. Jessica says:

How do these compare to Cookie Chips?

On that note, while I like said Cookie chips with some PB dip, no more thins. Especially not cookies. I like them thick, chewy and cakey. I need a little bite.

  3. Alek says:

Cookies has been thinned, brownies has been thinned, but cake haven’t yet! Why not thin cakes! Almost like crepes.

  4. Michael says:

    Someone mentioned on the podcast…

They need to make Oreo Thins for the limited edition flavors. Oreo Thin Red Velvet. Oreo Thin Cotton Candy, etc.

  5. Michael says:

I just thought ok on the normal version. But cinnamon definitely had my mind ringing cookie thin knock off alert.
It was interesting seeing these be larger sized than a cookie thin though.

Cheeze It Thins sounds like it might happen. Seems hard to do with the classic two layered cracker though.
Pretzel crisps was ahead of the thin curve and missed out.

  6. DeannaR says:

They should partner with the Girl Scouts and roll out a thin variety of their cookies. Then we could have Thin(ner) Mints.

  7. Surfer Sandman says:

HOLY CRAP! The Chocolate Chip thins are addictive! I bought 2 packages this weekend alone and had trouble NOT devouring them!

    • David cox says:

I agree. I bought (actually they were free as a Kroger Free Friday item) chocolate chip thins and loved them. Less dough, concentrated flavor. I never have been a chocolate anything fan (except Kisses), but I may be now.

OMG!! I’m in love… I tried the Chips Ahoy Thins and I can’t stop eating them. Everyone who knows me knows when I bake my cookies – they have to be crispy and thin… I don’t like them soft or chewy… I wasn’t sure what to expect when I opened this bag… I certainly didn’t expect to not be able to stop eating them!! I’ve devoured one row already and am trying to force myself to stop… I’m not a big fan of sugar cookies but I may have to give them a try as well.

I have had and enjoyed every chips ahoy cookie made. I have to say please do not change or stop making the thin cinnamon sugar cookies. I have to say per my opinion and taste buds rate it the #1 to date. I will always love homemade nestle toll house over all. But store bought will be cinnamon sugar thins.

  11. Kathy Jowett says:

Pb and j thins. I am hooked on these thin flavored cookies. Cinnamon and sugar is awesome. But love the originigal chocolaye chips too. Or oatmeal thins with bits of raisins. Yum

  12. Beverly Bishop says:

I LOVE the new Chips Ahoy in the thin!! But I can’t find them in our grocery stores just in Walmart but they only had the chocolate and oatmeal. I want the Originsl ines. Love looking be them!

  13. Nancy Brown says:

Love the cinnamon sugar thins. Our Walmart has not gotten them in in awhile—very upsetting. Want them back in the store.

  14. Lori says:

I would say the Cinnamon Thins Chips Ahoy are the best.

  15. K. Brillinger says:

I absolutely LOVE the Chips Ahoy Cinnamon Thins, please keep making them, they are sooooo good!

  16. Kellie says:

I love the cinnamon thins. They are amazing. I also love the Oreos salted caramel thins…they are also amazing! The thinness is what makes them so crisp and yummy.
