Review: La’Kat’s Deep-Fried Deviled Eggs at eat. (Las Vegas) & No Cars Available? WHAT
JFG Nation, I am such an Uber mark. After never using the app and resisting for no good reason for the last five years, I started using Uber in January and haven’t looked back. I blame the JFGal.
Of course, I live in DC, so usually there’s no problem with finding cars. However, a place like Little Rock, where I am currently? BARREN. At one point in the evening I searched and I saw the horrifying “NO CARS AVAILABLE” message. WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN? I zoomed out and looked for a car, and the closest one was 22 minutes away. Dude.
I know that regular taxis still exist, so it’s not that big of a deal, but I’ve become completely soft in my Uber-reliant state. Raise my arm to hail a cab? Actually CALL a cab company? AS IF.
My question for you to answer in the comments: are you an Uber-reliant drone, like me? Or have you still resisted because UBER IS RUINING THE TAXI INDUSTRY (I love you, Uber). Let me know in the comments below.
Sidenote: Little Rock is LOVELY. More on that tomorrow.
Today’s review: La’Kat’s Deep-Fried Deviled Eggs!!
Since I’m on the road, I figured I’d share something I ate on one of my previous trips: Las Vegas. In March when I was there for March Madness, I took a detour to visit a friend and we ended up at eat. – a breakfast/lunch joint near the downtown Las Vegas area (Fremont Street). This place drew my attention because of one item alone that I saw on Yelp over and over again: La’Kat’s Deep-Fried Deviled Eggs!
Something deep fried on a breakfast menu? Your JFG has to get it!
La’Kat’s Deep-Fried Deviled Eggs are known to make giraffes dance, apparently. Here’s what they are: Hard boiled egg. Remove the yolk. Deep fry that hard boiled white in a tasty seasoned what-appeared-to-be batter and panko bread crumbs. Pipe in that amazing blended yolk. cover in shredded bacon, chive, and hot sauce. And here’s what they look like:
BOOM. La’Kat’s Deep-Fried Deviled Eggs are sort of like a scotch egg, but not stuffed with meat. If you’re a deviled egg fan like I am, this is nirvana. Biting into one, the egg white was still delicate but very crispy on the outside. The panko-ish batter held up really well, providing excellent crunch while remaining not-greasy. The batter was nicely salted and pepper-y.
The yolk of these La’Kat’s Deep-Fried Deviled Eggs was SUPER whipped and soft, with only a tad bit of seasoning – I usually like my deviled eggs with a mustard-y yolk, but these lacked that. Instead, the yolk formed a creamy platter for the chive, the dollop of super tangy hot sauce and the crispy salty bacon shreds. As a bite, the entire egg was a burst of flavor, soft and crispy, creamy and salty, with that bite of the hot sauce and the raw chive.
It was a perfect savory bite – the first time I’d ever seen a deep fried deviled egg. You’re slacking, Iowa State Fair! These were so good, when the two ladies next to me asked about them, I just GAVE them one to split so they could share in my mouthgasm.
So yeah – next time you’re in Vegas, YOU MUST GET THESE. I’m ordering two plates next time.
PURCHASED AT: eat., Downtown Las Vegas, NV

You’d be a fun guy to hang with, JF Guy. And Uber all the time. I would have loved to have this when I was a kid, because as a teenager I’d never have had to worry about being stranded or driving with someone who was not safe. I use it every weekend without fail. Whether drinking or not. I never have to worry about parking, etc.
Those look amazing!!! I need to find a place around me that serves something similar. We have a nice Bistro that does a good scotch egg but is is $8 for 1 egg?!??!?!
Here is a story about Kat, and how she got the eggs named after her. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBRId2wVn6U
