Review: Gelato Fiasco Torched Marshmallow S’more Gelato, The Nosh Show Ep.77, & BEAT BOT aka RUN FASTER, STUPID!
JFG NATION – Happy Monday! Well, as happy as a Monday CAN be. With the Olympics around the corner, I’ve been seeing more and more products with the red, white, and blue, and more and more fitness commercials with Olympic athletes. I saw this one the other day:
Um, what the hell is this? As I understand it, Puma’s Beat Bot is a robotic running partner – essentially one step above a remote control car that has the ability to scan the lines of a track and turn along curves like you may run. You program in how fast you want it to go – and then you run faster. And then you run faster. RUN FASTER, CLOWN.
I think it’s sort of ridiculous, but I get it – some people need a visual tool to push them father – just constantly checking your Fitbit after you run isn’t enough sometimes. There’s only one problem – what happens when you aren’t using Beat Bot on a track? With no lines to scan, where the hell does Beat Bot go? Spiraling out of control? Flying into a wall? Out of range, and there goes your thousands of dollars you spent? Hmmm. Color me not impressed. Wake me when there’s a robot that will jump hurdles alongside you – THEN I’ll be impressed.

Today’s junk food: Gelato Fiasco Torched Marshmallow S’more Gelato!!
Gelato Fiasco is one of those ice cream / gelato companies I kept seeing pop up on OnSecondScoop.com. It’s a premium gelato company that Nick from OSS swears by, but I figured I would never get to try it because it’s a Northeast thing. Lo and behold, it started popping up at my local supermarket this year! But at full price – NEVER on sale.
Finally, I couldn’t take it anymore. I NEEDED SOME OF THIS GELATO IN ME. I reached out to the OSS guys for help:

Done and done. I grabbed the Gelato Fiasco Torched Marshmallow S’more Gelato and ran.
Gelato Fiasco Torched Marshmallow S’more Gelato comes in a plastic tubular jar like Talenti does with a fancy silver cap – Game of Thrones style. BTW, Gelato Fiasco comes from Maine.
Gelato Fiasco Torched Marshmallow S’more Gelato’s first two ingredients are milk and sugar – can’t say no to that. This flavor is “cinnamon graham cracker gelato accented with chunks of chocolate and homemade toasted marshmallows.” REALLY can’t say no to that.
Gelato Fiasco Torched Marshmallow S’more Gelato smelled like cinnamon as soon as I opened it. Like, it REALLY smelled like cinnamon.
After scraping away and noshing the top layer of this gelato, some takeaways. First, very little gum in this. I love how smooth Talenti, but that’s clearly because of the gums in the ingredients. This was much more of a traditional, thicker-ice-cream-like gelato that restaurants have.
Second, to me this gelato was pretty awesome – it tasted like cold cinnamon graham cracker batter. The graham flavor was so strong I wasn’t sure about it at first; the gelato had that weird not-quite-sweet but honey-flavored graham taste that was stronger than expected. The more I ate of it, the more I liked it. A LOT.
The chocolate in this Gelato Fiasco Torched Marshmallow S’more Gelato was great. The tiny chunks had lots of texture, giving the gelato a crunch that you might normally expect from cracker pieces. Here, the bits of chocolate crunched pleasantly.
But the best part about this gelato were the torched marshmallows. You can’t see them quite clearly from the pics above, but this gelato was loaded with marshmallows that were large (chiclet size pieces) and super chewy! I know it sounds dumb, but these were actual chewy marshmallows throughout the whole gelato – not a marshmallow swirl or dehydrated marshmallows. Just straight up chewy marshmallow pieces that contrasted nicely with the crunchy chocolate.
Altogether the flavor was on point and was one of the best s’mores ice creams I’d tasted simply because the cinnamon graham flavor was so consistent. This, to me, was unique and worth a buy. Loved it.
PURCHASED AT: Giant, Van Ness, DC

If you get the chance to try the Wild Maine Blueberry Crisp flavor PLEASE promise me you will. Even if its not on sale! I typically only go for chocolate flavors or at least things with chocolate in them. Not usually a fruit ice cream person. But I could eat this blueberry every day for eternity. I love it and its far superior to any berry flavor I’ve ever tried. I do like all the GF flavors, though. Well, all the flavors carried by The Fresh Market.
I tried the Blueberry Crisp, it was good but I felt like it was missing something and I’m not sure what kind of something that is.
Ice cream doesn’t need to be smooth, super premium (high fat) or overly sugary, but it just seemed like it’s missing something.
I’m beginning to think the way GF does their gelato just doesn’t jive with me in general
I was not a fan of this. I thought it would be awesome but I cannot remember the last time I’ve eaten a graham cracker, (15 years? 20?!) sometime as a child. Is what I THOUGHT graham is in my head not what it actually tastes like?
Graham flavor felt fake (though maybe graham in general seems fake to me) and too many little chocolate specs contributed nothing but to make the gelato gritty (and not a good graham cracker swirl gritty). Swirls of marshmallow are great for texture like in Ben & Jerry’s Save Our Swirled but they have no flavor so chunks of them add nothing
I love Gelato Fiasco – strong product quality. I order all the time online.
Now we just need an app to hack the bot and actually make it move slightly slower at random races. You know as a confidence boost.
This gelato is the bomb! I still haven’t gotten around to a re-purchase partly due to the price ($6.99 a pint here).
