Today’s review: Herr’s Chickie’s & Pete’s Famous Crabfries Seasoned Potato Chips!!
JFG Nation, I’ve reviewed plenty of Herr’s chips on this blog, so you know that when I see Herr’s, I think SALT. The saltiest chips alive.
Now when I think Chickie’s and Pete’s, I think of their famous crab fries: crinkle cut fries, loaded with salt and Old Bay seasoning (ok, they have their own blend, but it’s basically in the family of Old Bay). So the fries themselves are SUUUPER salty. C&P cuts this with their creamy white cheese sauce, which is basically just cheese sauce that tends more toward a jack or American cheese than a cheddar…it has lots of creaminess, not a lot of sharpness. The combo is a good one.
So when I saw these Herr’s Chickie’s & Pete’s Famous Crabfries Seasoned Potato Chips, I knew I was all in. Opening the bag and sniffing, I caught whiff of that familiar crab seasoning – maybe not as potent or ginger-y as traditional Old Bay, but crabby nonetheless. On the wavy chips, the seasoning and traditional salt profile actually matched up pretty well. And make no mistake – these were saaaaaalty. Way to not let me down, Herr’s.
The cheese in the ingredients was a cheddar powder, which was interesting. I could SORT OF taste the cheese “sauce” in that the chip had a bit of creaminess, but I don’t think it had enough of it. If the point was to make these crab chips, then mission accomplished. If the point was to mimick the flavor of a Chickie’s and Pete’s crab fry smothered in cheese sauce, then the balance was NOT there.
All in all, a good salty crab chip. I still tend toward Utz Crab Chips because I think they exude crabbiness a little better (with less salt). If these had a bit more cheese flavor to achieve that balance, then I would’ve placed these higher in my crab chip rankings. Maybe next time I’ll dip these chips into my own cheese sauce.

I’d like to say that Philly upends Washington, but I doubt it will happen. I do think you have it wrong and Detroit beats Tampa. Tampa has a lot of injuries.
Speaking of Philly – I don’t know how the chips are, but the crab fries are a staple at the ball park. Go get the real things – amazing!
STL-CHI: Slap fight of the year. Dallas fans will be watching with gleeful schadenfreude. I think the Hawks will come back and pound the Blues as revenge for the last game, though.
DAL-MIN: I want to believe you’re right, but we tend to choke on what should be easy games, so…
SJ-LA: SJ has consistently been thumping on L.A., so I think they’ll take it. Quickie looks tired.
(I’m actually a Sens fan, but we’re not gonna talk/think about this season.)
As many of you have probably figured out I do actually work for the Lightning, but I don’t think they’re going to make it with all the big guns out. Detroit in 5.
Yo, JFG: Have you tried Werther’s caramel popcorn? I don’t see a review. It’s F***** amazing and got better as the bag got lighter
Just tried these last night and was so disappointed. I like old bay chips and that’s all that these are. I didn’t taste any cheese sauce at all. Worst part is I haven’t seen tem in a small size bag so I had to buy the big one from WaWa.
