MICRO-REVIEW: Trader Joe’s Brownie Crisp
Today’s junk food: Trader Joe’s Brownie Crisp!!
Today’s post reveals the answer to the question: what happens when you keep buying junk food and don’t go back to see what you’ve previously purchased? Well, you discover that you bought a bag of Trader Joe’s Brownie Crisp almost five months ago and never reviewed it. I was feeling peckish last night, and digging through my stash of snacks, discovered this light blue bag. PERFECT – I tore the bag open.
This Trader Joe’s Brownie Crisp is an obvious attempt to get into the brownie chip/brittle market. I reviewed Sheila G’s Brownie Brittle a LOOOOONG time ago, and now it’s EVERYWHERE. But this brownie crisp was different than Brownie Brittle. First, it wasn’t as thin – Brownie Brittle is very much a thin crisp of brownie flavor, while these were thicker, and basically were like flat cookies. These definitely had more of a CRUNCH than a CRISP feeling.
Flavor-wise? Pretty good – the crisps that were loaded with chocolate chunks exploded with chocolate flavor. One problem – inconsistency. Whereas one crisp might have lots of chocolate, another crisp might be all dough, only dough. That was another place where this brownie crisp didn’t quite match up to Brownie Brittle – Brownie Brittle has perfected the flavor of the burnt crisp edges of the brownie. These brownie crisp bits tasted a tiny bit stale; the cookie/brownie dough was not as chocolate-y. Tasted a bit more like chocolate dough than brownie dough.
I’m killing the product, but overall I enjoyed this – it’s a crispy cookie loaded (sometimes) with chocolate chunks. What’s not to like? If Brownie Brittle is an A, these are a solid B+.

Ha. Yeah, that’s my pantry too. Especially now that I’m in competition season and don’t get to eat nearly the junk food that I used to. I’m still clearing out all my Valentine’s red velvet treats. Should’ve bought 1 box, not 3.
It is gluten free and vegan!!!
Oh man a thick brownie snack sounds more enticing than a thin crisp. But after reading this, I just want a real fudgey brownie.
I agree, looks more like a cookie then a brownie. What was invented first the cookie or the brownie? Anyway, love the package. I have learned that snacks can fluctuate from an A to B+ depending on my craving. I will buy and taste for myself and let you know.
