MICRO-REVIEW: Pecan Pie M&M’s
Today’s junk food: Pecan Pie M&M’s!!
Ah, Pecan Pie M&M’s. Something I found back in October and forgot that I had a bag lying around somewhere. While pushing around bags of chips, you were uncovered! Sorry about neglecting you for….six months.
I opened the bag and sniffed – distinct aromas of brown sugar, a bit of roasted pecan smell, very much like the SMELL of pecan pie. The problem with M&Ms is: can that flavor transfer to the chocolate itself? Chomping on a few of these, I was very surprised – the first flavor WAS evocative of pecan pie! Brown sugary flavor on the shell, and the roasted pecan flavor carried over, although it was subtle. The chocolate flavor was very powerful, and these were sweet sweet sweet. These clearly didn’t TASTE like actual pecan pie, per se, but were more of a nod to the sugary innards that comprise a pecan pie. In that sense, these were WAAAAAY more successful than previous attempts M&Ms had at seasonal flavors.
The more I ate, the less pecan pie flavor I got, per usual. BUT, these didn’t taste bad at all, and I liked the lean towards brown sugar. I enjoyed these a lot. I’m sorry I hadn’t been eating them for all these months!
PURCHASED AT: Walmart, Germantown, MD
COST: $2.98

Great, I have to go back for yet another walmart exclusive product. I was just there for the carrot cake kisses!
I just recently tried the Malt M & M’s one….they are pretty good but not as good as whoppers. Have you seen the Milano’s with banana flavor?
They have banana flavored twinkies too you should do banana flavored food.
They should had done with bits of caramelized pecans!
Agreed!
When I tried these the first time, I loved them! They were sweet and sugary and just overall “good.” I waited like, five minutes, grabbed another handful, tossed a few in my mouth and immediately went, “Nope. Nope. Nope.” It tasted like munching on a Bath and Body Works candle. Now I can’t eat them at all. Gross.
I am a Southern guy who makes and eats pecan pie since I was a little boy. I am now 71. The taste of the pecan pie M&M’s for me was awful. The maple Tate ruined it and is never used in the South where pecan pie is a staple. I would much rather have WalMart’s mini pecan pie that you can buy for $.50.
