JFG Nation, just a quick post today. By now, you might have heard that Frito-Lay is NOT doing a “Do Us A Flavor” contest this year (man, and I was looking forward to trying some tuna tartare potato chips). Instead, they are doing a “Flavor Swap” contest, where the tag line is ONE STAYS. ONE GOES. Basically, Frito-Lay is pitting two flavors against each other (one new, one old) and people get to vote on which flavor survives – simple enough.

Normally, I’d be hunting for the NEW flavors, would only find gigantic bags of them, and would get all frustrated. During the “Do Us A Flavor” contests in the past, the most vocal comment I heard was “Why don’t they just release all the flavors together in small bags so we can try all of them?” And then I’d hear from the ether that toward the end of the contest, people would find multipacks of those flavors in random gas stations. Too little too late, Frito-Lay! This is BS.

So………imagine my surprise when I wandered into Walmart and found THIS:

IT’S A GARBAGE BAG FULL OF CHIPS! Oh wait, no, sorry….it’s a Frito-Lay Flavor Swap Mix MULTIPACK!!!! All for ~$7.

That’s right, Walmart was selling these sacks of chips, complete with its own internal handles reminiscent of Glad bags. Cough. Anyways, let’s take a closer look:

Like I said before, this Frito-Lay Flavor Swap is very simple. Vote, and one flavor stays, and one goes. This bag contained 20 single tiny bags (1 oz each), with 2 of each flavor and….4 classic Lay’s??? What the – I mean, I love classic Lay’s, but take those away, and give me 3 of each flavor and make this a 24 pack.

Plus, some random voter gets $250,000??? I want.

In the end, a 20 oz bag of chips for $7….not horrible. And you can see from this close-up what the Frito-Lay Flavor Swap faceoff flavors are:

Kettle Cooked Sea Salt & Black Pepper vs. Kettle Cooked Olive Oil & Herbs

Classic Style Cheddar & Sour Cream vs. Classic Style Smoked Gouda & Chive

Classic Style Flamin’ Hot vs. Classic Style Fiery Roasted Habanero

Classic Style Honey Barbecue vs. Classic Style Korean Barbeque

I’ll be trying all of these flavors eventually, but I’m curious to see all of your initial opinions, if you’ve had any – which flavors have won the faceoff for you? Do you like this idea?
