Review: New Pepperidge Farm Salted Caramel Chocolate Milano Cookies & New Year, New Shampoo?
JFG Nation, let’s pull back the curtain for a second: for the past 2-3 years, I’ve been using Dove Men+Care shampoo. Ohhh yeah – THIS STUFF. FANCY. I got it because I like Dove products, and because it smelled nice. Here’s the rub – I’ve been using it for so long, I’m super annoyed by it. I roll my eyes at the smell. I scoff now at the price point – $4.00??? HOW DARE YOU, DOVE.
So it’s the New Year, and I’m about to finish off my current bottle, and I’m thinking, “You know what? TIME FOR A NEW SHAMPOO. NEW YEAR, NEW ME, NEW HAIR SOAP!” Except I have NO idea what to go with next?
This is coming from a guy who USED to use the 99-cent VO5 shampoo in law school (79-cents when it was on sale!) until my ex-girlfriend told me I was basically destroying my head. I dunno – I’M NOT A COSMETOLOGIST, HONEY. So I’m stuck, because I have NO idea what a good shampoo brand is.
I don’t trust commercials either – Old Spice? I don’t want cologne head. AXE? Why don’t I just dip my head in a bro’s armpit. Head and Shoulders? Neutrogena Men? Pert Plus? HEEEELLLLLPPPPPPPPP.
So tell me, Nation – what shampoo is out there that I NEED for my dome piece? I want all you suggestions, with links, in the comments below. Expensive stuff to cheap stuff – tell me what you use, what you swear by, etc. Do you realize I am a 30-something-old man and I’m asking the internet for shampoo advice? This is happening. But I want to actively CHOOSE a shampoo for the first time in my life, and not just get what is one sale.

New Pepperidge Farm Salted Caramel Chocolate Milano Cookies exist! This is one of those flavors where I stop, and say, WAIT…doesn’t this exist already??? Check internet…nope. WAIT…hasn’t anyone reviewed this yet? Check internet again….NOPE. Well, alright then. Let’s throw these in the basket.
FYI, Pepperidge Farm DOES make Dulce De Leche Milanos (my review of those here). But no Salted Caramel variety until NOW, PF? Huh…ok then. ‘Bout time.
Sniffing the open bag of New Pepperidge Farm Salted Caramel Chocolate Milano Cookies, these smelled A LOT like caramel. Nice and sweet.
The look of these New Pepperidge Farm Salted Caramel Chocolate Milano Cookies was interesting…while the Dulce De Leche Milanos had a sort-of-orange-brown-caramel look to the non-chocolate sandwiched layer, these were definitely more tan-light brown in color. Which further supports my theory that the color of that non-chocolate layer means nothing at all.
Biting into one of these New Pepperidge Farm Salted Caramel Chocolate Milano Cookies, I got the traditional Milano texture – light and crunchy. The caramel flavor was a little disappointing – it was less present in the flavor than in the aroma. In other words, these smelled a lot more like caramel than tasted like caramel. Still, there was a bit of general caramel flavor.
What really helped was the bits of salt I got throughout the chew – those WERE noticeable, and popped here and there, accentuating whatever flavor I was tasting. If I got a bit of chocolate note, it definitely tasted like a sea salt chocolate. If I was tasting a caramel note, then the sea salt caramel flavor did emerge. The salt bursts were present and I loved those.
Overall, I’d give these a solid B+…wasn’t quite the bold sea salt caramel flavor I wanted, especially after the initial smell. But the salt saved the cookie, and the overall flavor was very tasty. I liked these, PF. Good on ya.

I like Pantene, but I usually keep my hair very short and just use a 3 in 1 body wash like Nivea.
@Sascha – I tried a 3-in-1 once…weird to me that shampoo is ALSO bodywash. Super foamy
I dont agree with marketing of different hair products for men and women. Is there really ang scientific proof men need different shampoo than women? If you look at the bottle, the ingrediants are the same, but scented to suit that gender. I say you should invest in a larger bottle of salon brand (Paul Mitchell, Biolage, Redmen). If you can get one from a store like Marshalls or TJ Maxx, the price is good for the amount of shampoo you get per ounce and the quality is much better.
@Sue: Hmmmm, I do like the look of Redmen….def a possibility.
I LOVED these, better than the original! I like Loreal, color safe. Doesn’t have the nasty drying ingredient (but can’t remember the chemical name, Sulfa something)

I am a female who actually tries to look nice and I just buy whatever brand is on sale. No difference really.
I echo Sascha that Pantene shampoos are very good, especially if your local water is hard. Just pick the one that matches your hair type and go! Of course, you risk smelling like a hothouse orchid…
A better idea would be the caramel filling to be slightly gooey.
Besides I am starting to get tired of this salted caramel trend.
My son loves Pantene too – its nice, not too expensive and doesn’t smell like AXE lol. If you don’t mind spending a few more dollars, I love Paul Mitchell Tea Tree shampoo – it tingles your head and wakes you up! It’s also good for dandruff if you have it – and it keeps everything squeaky clean!
I would try these, except I have far too many raspberry linzer cookies and stroopwafels that I bought in the holiday aisles on 70% clearance. Thanks for making my weight loss resolution even harder, Target.

I put cookies in individual cheapie sandwich bags, twist the bag shut, and stuff a bunch in a ziplock bag to keep in the freezer. They keep forever that way and so I can’t tell myself that I have to eat them all up before the expiration date. Works for donuts (cut up if needed), pieces of pie and cake etc. also. Slows me down to have to open up the little bag for each also. I’ve even done that with things like popcorn and other crunchies, maybe putting a cup in a ziplock sandwich bag in or out of the freezer, although sealing in a mason jar using a Foodsaver attachment also helps preserve and slow down scarfing. I also freeze slices of pizza…
99-cent VO5 shampoo (Extra Body) is actually less dangerous than many of the highly scented expensive shampoos, and contains less xenoestrogens (low risk product). For us Dense Breast gals (in BC Prevention Educational Groups) we’ll stick with V05 from the 99C Store. My hair looks and feels great with it.

Boy, do I hear ya. I went 2.5 days giving up my sugar addiction and had to buy Chips Ahoy Brownie in the Center Cookies at the 99C Only store. I’m such a damn sugar addict .
Too high a level of IGF-1 (Insulin Growth Factor 1) is a factor in different cancers, and I can’t seem to break my junk food /sugar habit. Thank goodness I can’t digest soda, and drink water. What is a PetScan = radio active glucose light up when cancer cells munch on the glucose.
A bar of soap for all my body. Haven’t got any complaints yet..

The women always have the good stuff when it comes to shampoo. Everytime I’m single my hair just goes straight down the gutter. I don’t know…I’ve got some garbage CVS brand stuff now.
I’m sensitive to artificial fragrances so avoid the nice smelling things and the people who wear them… Well, in my house. Scented friends can stand on the porch if they visit. They’re like smokers. Anyway, believe it or don’t – I use Shaklee Basic H on my hair. Yup, the same wonderfully unscented all-purpose cleaning stuff I use on the dishes, the floors, the windows, the mirrors, the counters, in flea egg destroying surface sprays and combed-out flea drowning solutions (before Frontline mercifully saved us from the cat-biting hordes) , on the cats (well, once, not worth the injuries and band aids for a repeat), the walls, the laundry, the sinks, my whole body, etc. It’s actually gentle, has a slightly acidic pH that matches skin pH pretty well. And think of all the time I save not having to decide what product to buy for all these functions! I even became a Shaklee distributor long ago (way back when the fee was $12 for life) just to make sure I would always have a steady supply at the cheapest price without having to deal with the pesky distributor who first sold it to me (I have one customer, myself, but she’s extremely loyal). That was before it all could easily be ordered online.
I briefly tried other things long ago. I found one scented with lemongrass oil that doesn’t bother me (the artificially scented ones give me a chronic low grade headache), but I got tired of smelling like lemons. I also tried some organic stuff that was supposed to condition etc. but it must have built up on my hair to do its wonders and I didn’t like the heavy feeling. Maybe I’m like the Princess and the Pea but for hair. There are probably more unscented options today. But I’m completely happy with the Basic-H and it’s one less thing to have to buy.
