Review (x3): Snyder’s of Hanover BowTies (Original, Everything, Parmesan Garlic) & Are Fridays Busy or Slow?

JFG Nation, its Friday! But Fridays often mean different things to different people. MOST of the time, Fridays mean WEEKEND and at work, it means CHILL TIME. But that’s not always the case – some lawyers I know, for example, have court all week, and Friday is the only time they get to return phone calls, write pleadings, and suck the blood out of their clients.  If you work for a restaurant? Friday is showtime – typically one of the two busiest nights of the week, Friday is no time to chill. People need their sea bass, CHOP CHOP.

I know in my own life, I get more done on Fridays because most people ARE chilling, aka, they aren’t bothering me. It’s a chance for me to put something together and send it off into the ether so that it’ll be waiting for whoever on Monday morning. Yeah, that’s me – the guy who sent you work to do on Monday morning. “Who the heck sends emails with questions that need answering at 4:45pm???” That’s me. You’re welcome.

Anyways, so while I’m glad it’s Friday, I’ll be running around all day. But what about YOU, JFG Nation? Are Fridays a break or a hassle for you? Let me know in the comments below.

Today’s junk food: Snyder’s of Hanover BowTies!!

Snyder’s of Hanover BowTies: The Money Shot

Sincere apologies to Snyder’s of Hanover, who sent me these BowTies MONTHS ago back when I was reviewed the Raspberry Creme Sweet Pretzel Sandwiches and the Pretzel Poppers.  That was like, February.  Oof.  Sorry, Snyder’s.

Anyways, I found these as I was digging around my junk food pile (yep) and saw the three bags of BowTies staring me in the face.Honestly, I forgot they were even there, although I think I remembered I had them every single time I spotted one of these bags in the store. These BowTies I’ve seen EVERYWHERE. So let’s get to tasting them!

First up: Snyder’s of Hanover Original BowTies. The shape of these flattened pretzels were bowtie-like, hence the name. I think I didn’t realize what these BowTies were until I opened the bag, and immediately thought: “oooooooooooooooooooh, these are Pretzel Crisps!” Duh – these are pretzel chips. (I can just hear Snyder’s lamenting DON’T MENTION OUR COMPETITOR GAAAAWD.) Woop.

These were super tasty, if you’re someone who likes Pretzel Cri*….er…pretzel chips. Flattened, and super crispy, these chips had all of the great flavor of the outside of the pretzel – that nice gold sort-of-bitter flavor that I love from a pretzel. Good amount of salt, and a great crunch. I mean, these were super familiar to me, and definitely lived up to the competition. Nothing mindblowing, just on point.

Next up: Snyder’s of Hanover Everything BowTies:

Snyder’s of Hanover Everything BowTies were my favorite of the three bags. I’d had the competition before, but for some reason, the everything bagel seasoning on THESE pretzel chips was REALLY strong. As soon as I crunched, I IMMEDIATELY tasted poppy seed, sesame, onion flake, garlic, and most importantly, I could taste the rye caraway seed!  As someone who eats everything bagels ALL THE EFFING TIME, I am picky about my everything seasoning. This NAILED it. I loved these, and had a hard time putting the bag down.

Finally, Snyder’s of Hanover Parmesan Garlic BowTies:

I have to admit, you’d think these Snyder’s of Hanover Parmesan Garlic BowTies would be my favorite, but I actually thought they ranked #3 among the bags. It’s not that they didn’t taste fine – the same pretzel texture and crunch was there. But I almost feel like the powdering just didn’t work – There was a good amount, but I didn’t get the intended flavor as strongly as I wanted. And I’m not asking for MORE powder – the coating was just right. It was more than the flavor was semi-blotted out by the flavor of the pretzel chip. The parmesan added a tiny bit of creaminess, but I didn’t get a super potent parmesan flavor, and the garlic flavor was THERE, but not enough by itself.

Honestly, this just may be a flavor that, to me, just doesn’t pair well with pretzel. I don’t like this flavor in the Pretzel Crisps line either. Again, these tasted fine – but I wouldn’t buy this flavor again. The Everything BowTies, however? I might buy another bag this weekend. And let’s work on Honey Mustard next! DO IT.

So to recap: Everything #1, Original #2, and the Parmesan Garlic…..meh.

Thanks again to Snyder’s for letting me review these BowTies….five months after they were introduced.

Days of the week haven’t mattered since I left college. Never had a 9-5 job. I honestly thought today was Thursday.

I have Fridays off. It’s godly, second only to having Mondays off. So much oversleeping and gaming!

I know a lot of my junk food ‘add-on comments’ to JFG’s reviews are on the critical side; but not this time. I am fully enthusiastic about this recent innovation in pretzel snacks. Bowties, Crisps, and then those nifty new pretzel ‘shells’ –and I don’t even know what all else–seems like a half-dozen new styles of this type–but its all effin GREAT. See, I’m a pretzel fan, way more than potato chips or corn chips. Its #1 with me. I can go through a whole bag with no regrets. They’re the best for any kind of dunking/dipping. And pretzels are the best bar snack while drinking cold beer, (second would be peanuts I guess). Even so, its often hard to get the specific crunch you want. But all these new varieties of ‘flat’ pretzels do it for me, just about every time. Love em!

Fridays: well, whats not to like…wear shorts to work if possible. If not, I often take the entire day off just because I can. So my weekend basically starts Thursday night. Why? Because in the world of hi-tech, you never rollout a change on a friday because that means it could crash the system over the weekend and no one would be there to repair the damage. So yeah, in mission-critical technology, nothing ever happens on a Friday. (Of course if you work at Yahoo, then forget everything I’ve just said)

p.s. Nothing gets past my keen eyes. I don’t think there’s any further need to wonder (after the Snyder’s blog-post above) WHY the JFG developed his junk food hobby –and this blog–in the first place.

He divulges that has a *pile* of free junk food which companies regularly mail him. How big is this pile? Big enough to lose items in because they’re buried ‘at the bottom’.

Sounds like a clever way to stretch one’s food dollar, eh? A steady supply of free snacks from all over the country?

JFG is crazy like a fox.
