Hey there Junk Food Nation! Today’s been one of those up and down days – but one thing that has made me smile is the news that, come 2017, DUCKTALES (Hoo-OO-oo) IS BACK. Whaddya mean, you don’t remember Ducktales (Hoo-OO-oo)?? Well, first watch this:
Still not ringing a bell? Well, for me, this cartoon was a solid part of my childhood. Ducktales (Hoo-OO-oo) was a cartoon that aired from 1987-1990 that I continued to watch in syndication thereafter. (Holy crap…that was 25 years ago it went off the air???? *clap hands on face* “nooooooo.”)
Anyways, I know that over on Disney XD and the Cartoon Network and other networks, cartoons are being rebooted all the time. Weird Japanese version of Thundercats. A modern version of the Ninja Turtles. I even heard that the Powerpuff Girls were coming back, rebooted for the 21st Century. But Ducktales (Hoo-OO-oo)? I NEVER expected this to happen…I might have to actually watch this.

Good Humor Girl Scout Thin Mint Frozen Dessert Bars: The Money Shot
Good Humor Girl Scout Thin Mint Frozen Dessert Bars were spotted first over on OnSecondScoop, where apparently they first debuted in…the UK? Mexico? Something like that? I dunno; regardless, they are HERE in the US. Game over, Girl Scouts. You’ve won. Well done.
Good Humor Girl Scout Thin Mint Frozen Dessert Bars jumped out at me because, unlike the MULTITUDE of ice creams using Girl Scout cookies as a mix-in, this is the first time I’d see any frozen dessert company make this mov. The fact that Good Humor was actually able to get the Girl Scouts brand too?? That’s big time.
As you saw above, these Good Humor Girl Scout Thin Mint Frozen Dessert Bars are not quite ice cream (frozen dessert bars) and they are coated in not quite chocolate (chocolatey coating). By the way, according to the Miriam Webster Dictionary, the proper way to spell it is “chocolaty” but whatever.
Additionally, 3 oz bars are a good size – Klondikes are 4.5 oz, but these are the same size as the Talenti Gelato Bars.
Good Humor + Girl Scouts = $$$$$$$.
Good Humor Girl Scout Thin Mint Frozen Dessert Bars are 190 calories each, and contains interesting ingredients like “butter oil” and “dark chocolate crunch.” And 45% of my daily saturated fat! WOW. That’s sort of an accomplishment.
Good Humor Girl Scout Thin Mint Frozen Dessert Bars looked like a large hockey puck, about 4″ in diameter….
…and maybe ALMOST an inch thick. These were some substantial frozen dessert bars. The surface of the chocolaty coating had bumps of the dark chocolate crunch embedded throughout. I took a sniff – slight cocoa smell. A tiny bit of mint, not much.
When I grabbed hold and snapped one of these Good Humor Girl Scout Thin Mint Frozen Dessert Bars in half, it snap/popped nicely – the insides were dense enough that the chocolaty coating didn’t shatter in my hand.
I took a bite, and my mind spun. IT TASTED VERY MUCH LIKE A FROZEN THIN MINT.
The truth of the matter is, it wasn’t going to take much to make these successful. Yeah, the ice cream isn’t the HIGHEST quality in the world, but the flavor was spot on – creamy and chocolaty, with a good dose of mint that balanced perfectly. Yeah, the chocolaty-coating wasn’t the HGIHEST quality chocolate in the world – it started to melt on my fingertips as I gripped it, indicating a high oil content – but it snapped really nicely as I bit into the bar and added a really nice sort-of-crunchy chocolate flavor to the entire mouthful.
As I tasted the frozen “ice cream” and the coating, I tried to distinguish where the minty flavor was coming from, but to be honest, I couldn’t tell. It might’ve been in both mediums. Regardless, the mint chocolate flavor was SPOT ON as far as Thin Mint flavor went.
The KEY to this treat, however, were the dark chocolate crunch bits. While the tiny bits provided a little bit of crunch, the real purpose of the cookie bits were to help remind the eater of a Thin Mint cookie itself. As my teeth chewed them, the cookies turned into a bit of familiar cookie grit that blended well with the “ice cream” like a nice mint cookies n’ crème. It helped keep the “cookie” element of the Thin Mint in play, so that these weren’t just Mint Klondike Bars.
All in all, I thought these were GREAT. They aren’t Talenti Gelato bars, but who cares? I love them all the same.

How about a Simpsons reboot back when it was funny in the early to mid 1990s?
Not really a fan of rebooting stuff because it’s never as good as the originals. They did that with Tom & Jerry. The 1970s version had them living in the suburbs – WTF?!
Bring back the Jetsons, Inspector Gadget, Danger Mouse and the Snorks, I’m a happy man and two sons that could be raised correctly.

Ducktales was definatily in my top 3 cartoons growing up. I am totally going to watch it. I just hope that keep that great theme song. 80’s theme songs were the best.

I loved the whole disney afternoon lineup: Darkwing Duck, TaleSpin, DuckTales, and Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers. but that is when disney channel was awesome!!! I loved old black and white mickey cartoons as well. and all the old disney stuff they put on there. why don’t they have classics on their channel anymore? geez – their history is so rich. I mean, my mom was so happy I got to watch the original mickey mouse club that she loved so much….
I seriously have the theme songs on my ipod LOL. AND I just found a photo proof that I had ducktales party stuff for one of my birthday parties. I am talking the whole thing, plates cups napkins goodie bags – balloons and more… (my mom let me choose a theme every year lol)

I heard on NBC news this morning that Pee Wee Herman and the playhouse is coming back. This is like an 80s revival. Those ice cream bars sound delish…now just to find them…hmmmm

Kinda bummed these aren’t tiny like actual Thin Mints – I was fully prepared to give my “they’re not that many calories per cookie” excuse…as I eat an entire sleeve!
And a Duck Tales reboot? IN. As long as some Disney Channel starlet doesn’t remake the theme song. That is NOT allowed…

Just bring back Saturday morning cartoons. I mean really, are kids today really doing so much better because they forced the networks to get rid of Saturday morning cartoons? Yeah, right. Somehow we managed to not be obese, illiterate, lolspeaking, sexting maniacs because of a couple hours of cartoons on Saturday mornings with a few bowls of sugary cereal while our parents got to sleep in, followed by actually getting out of the house, meeting up with friends, and running around the neighborhood for the rest of the day playing made up games or pick up sports.
Now GET OFF MY LAWN!
We shall see if they revive or ruin DuckTales. It really was good, very much like the old Carl Barks Uncle Scrooge stories in the comics, even though they pretty much dumped the volatile Donald by shipping him off to the Navy. I did miss Donald, since back in my extreme youth I watched the Mickey Mouse Club first run and always rooted for Donald in the opener rather than The Mouse. In the comics, Uncle Scrooge used to hire Donald (at 5¢ per hour) to pace around in circles in his Worry Room, outsourcing his worrying so he could focus on more profitable endeavors.
Other greats about which I was initially skeptical:
– Quack Pack, where Donald now has a steady job as Daisy’s cameraman (she’s a TV reporter), and the nephews are transformed from always helpful Junior Woodchucks into obnoxious teenagers. Classic episode: Donald tries to get the boys to clean their room, and somehow the universe ends up exploded.
– Goof Troop, where Goofy is a single father and moves back home with his son Max, ending up next door to the ever-changing villain Pete who is now a used car salesman with a wife and kids.
– Darkwing Duck, which is hard to describe but wonderful. Kind of a Batman wannabe, but a duck. He even has an orphaned ward, except she’s much more interesting than Robin.
Outside the Disney universe, I also miss Tiny Tunes (kind of a Looney Tunes Next Generation) and Animaniacs (although they were a tad creepy -no, they were more than a tad creepy).
@JWoolman: I used to love Tiny Tunes too. Sigh….
