Review: Hershey’s Chocolate Truffle Kisses, NFL Conference Championship Picks & I’m OK With Whatever Super Bowl

Junk Food Nation, Conference Championships are HERE in football. We’re down to the Final Four, which means that every sports media outlet has been discussing the topic: Which Super Bowl would you rather see?  And it’s a good question – like last year, all the teams in the last four have great storylines and are actually exciting teams to watch.  There’s no real clunker in there: The Patriots have the veteran many-ringed Brady. Aaron Rodgers is the best QB in the league right now. And Luck and Wilson are THE TWO young stars in the league above everyone else. And I’m only focused on the QBS – so many other good storylines: The Seattle D. Marshawn Lynch and the media. Gronk and Belichick. Jordy, Randall, and Davante. The….other people on the Colts.

But before we get to the SB possibilities, let’s breakdown mine and the Backup QB’s picks for the weekend:

Packers @ SEAHAWKS (-7.5): Anyone who is a Green Bay Packer fan watched last week’s game wincing every time they saw Aaron Rodgers limp around the field. His calf injury is NOT the type of injury that goes away in a week, so expect him to be limited still.  Limited Rodgers = no ability to scramble, extend plays, and let his receivers get open. I think this is going to be a complete drubbing. I’m serious; I could see this being a 21-7 game by the half. The Seahawks will cover and win this game.

BQB: SEA -7.5. GB is garbage on the road.  4-4 with all 4 losses more than 8 points.  2 were to non playoff teams (Bills and Saints).

Colts @ PATRIOTS (-7): You know, this one is waaaay closer than I thought. I gave the Colts no chance against the Broncos, and then they went and locked down that offense (sort of – Peyton threw ducks the whole time). The defense is peaking, the running game with Herron is surprisingly normal, and Luck managed to find the open man. The Patriots have their tricks and absolutely destroyed them last time with Jonas Gray. I think this matchup will be closer than people think, especially if they the Colts can come up with an answer for Gronk. PATRIOTS still win…but the Colts cover.

BQB: IND +7. Close pick, but give me the points against a QB who might be the best in football right now and a suddenly resurgent defense and running game.

Despite these picks, what are the Super Bowl possibilities? Here are mine, in order of preference:

Seahawks/Patriots: This is the one I’d like most to see. The stifling Seattle D versus the offensive guile of the Patriots. Storybook in its own right – Seattle took down the juggernaut Broncos last year; this year they get a chance to flex their muscles against the Pats. Can Brady slay the dragon? Or will this game ALSO be a shocking ass whooping by the Seahawks?

Seahawks/Colts: Surprised to see this one second? Don’t be – I know this seems like the greatest mismatch, but the Luck vs. Wilson matchup is one I’ve been waiting to see. The Colts beat the Seahawks back in October 2013…you think Russell Wilson has forgotten that?  Youth vs. youth; NEITHER CAN LIVE WHILE THE OTHER SURVIVES.

Patriots/Packers: Yeah I know I’m probably pissing a lot of people off putting the Packers in the 3rd and 4th preference. The problem is it wasn’t pretty seeing Rodgers limp like that the entire game. I have no doubt that two more weeks of healing will only help, and this could still be an epic shootout…ok, now I’m convincg myself. Alright…I’ll make this a tie. EITHER Seahawks/Colts or Patriots/Packers.  But please, let it not be…

Colts/Packers: It’s not that this wouldn’t be a great matchup – all of them would be – but this would have the least # of storylines. I mean…the Colts beat the Packers in 2012?? Is that a storyline? It’s not really aging vet vs. new kid, since both are part of the current prime cluster of top QBs. Er….finally two bad defenses that guarantees a shootout? Except the Colts D has been better? Sigh…I’m tired of trying to make this sound goodzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Enjoy the games this weekend, everyone! Tell me your picks in the comments below, and which Super Bowl you’d PREFER to see, even if it doesn’t align with your picks.

TODAY’S JUNK FOOD: Hershey’s Chocolate Truffle Kisses!!

Hershey's Chocolate Truffle Kisses: The Money Shot

Hershey’s Chocolate Truffle Kisses: The Money Shot

So, are these Hershey’s Chocolate Truffle Kisses new or not? Candy Blog had a review of something like this…back in 2007?! But I haven’t seen anything like this since. Except for the Mint Truffle. Still, I love truffles (who doesn’t?) so with Hershey’s finally (re)releasing their version – I knew I had to try it.

Sidenote: Pink foil wrapping? Little mini hearts? But….TEAL BAG?? WHAT THE.

Hershey's Chocolate Truffle Kisses

Hershey’s Chocolate Truffle Kisses are “dark chocolate with a chocolate meltaway center.” YUP. GET IN ME.

Hershey’s Chocolate Truffle Kisses have 210 calories per…NINE? Well, line up 18 of these bad boys, then.

Hershey's Chocolate Truffle Kisses

Unlike the Candy Blog’s review of these eight years ago, these Hershey’s Chocolate Truffle Kisses did not seem demonstrably bigger than normal kisses.  Maybe a little fatter in the point? I dunno.

Hershey's Chocolate Truffle Kisses

Unwrapped, these Hershey’s Chocolate Truffle Kisses looked like regular kisses. And like most Kisses, they smelled AWESOME. I mean, no rocket science – they just smelled like chocolate. Chocolate. CHOCOLATE.

I sliced one open to see if you could CLEARLY see the truffle center….and lo and behold YOU CAN.  Holy Moly. Look at that ish.  With a toothpick I carefully scraped some out and tasted – VERY soft, VERY creamy, nice and chocolaty with an almost soft sauce like feel.

Hershey's Chocolate Truffle Kisses

Eaten as a whole, these Hershey’s Chocolate Truffle Kisses reminded me a lot of any round sphere-like truffle I’d ever had.  Same soft center in comparison to the outer shell. While Lindt and Godiva truffles usually have (to me) a sort of more either stiff or tougher outer shell, these Kisses were remarkably soft.  I could tell the difference between the center and the shell, but just barely, and I was THINKING about it.

If you just popped one in your mouth and chewed, the net result was this was a SOFT Hershey’s Kiss – the teeth cut through it without problem. Outer dark chocolate taste was standard and the softer center stands out and adds a definite truffle creaminess to it all.

REALLY good. Don’t know why it took them seven-eight years to re-release. I might actually say these are better than normal Hershey’s Kisses. Buy these if you’re a chocolate lover.

Well JFG clearly has an anti-Midwestern bias! 😛 As a Bears fan, I have to root for the dirty Seahawks over the Packers, obviously (no dad, i WON’T root for the division!). I can’t root for the Colts because of Super Bowl XLI & nobody wants to root for Tom Brady & the Patriots because we’re all sick of them. The season ends for me on Sunday because I have no interest in the Commercial Concert Party on February 1st.

Here’s your scoop. If there is a Packers/Colts Superbowl, you can talk about the QB’s having the same jersey number. That should make headlinezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz……..

Seahawks cover and do so handily. Remember what the Bills did to Green Bay? Multiply that by about 5.

I am really liking Indy for the cover …….. and the win.
