Review: Limited Edition Frosted Grape Pop-Tarts & Mistletoe Drones Are The Harbinger of Judgment Day

MISTLETOE DRONE NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO:
Recently, TGIF’s had this promotion:
Awh, how cute, right? The drone wants you to kiss someone! Well, it’s all fun and games UNTIL THE DRONE TAKES A CHUNK OF YOUR FACE OUT.
According to this story, a photographer at a Brooklyn TGIFridays was there to cover this story when the drone operator tried to land the drone on her hand. Which is all well and good until the drone blades clipped her nose and cut her chin. WTF.
According to the operator, “the mistake wouldn’t have happened if the woman hadn’t flinched.” Yeah, STOOOPID WOMAN. WHY FLINCH WHEN TINY BLADES ARE COMING AT YOUR EYES. Hey TGIFridays, I have an idea – how ’bout you DON’T EVER try to fly drones near peoples’ faces? I don’t care what you say, but clearly the woman didn’t flinch TOWARDS the drone, so that means the drone must have been flown close enough to this woman’s face that even when she flinched away, it STILL cut her.
So yeah, let’s say the woman HERSELF chose to hold her hand close enough to her face to get cut…when you see that situation, err on the side of piping up and saying, “Uh…yeah….we’re not gonna do that” instead of hitting the throttle on the gas towards her visage.
You see? The machines ARE trying to hurt us. Someone give me a bat; I need to smack my toaster before it gets out of control.

Limited Edition Frosted Grape Pop-Tarts: The Money Shot
Limited Edition Frosted Grape Pop-Tarts are not the first time Kellogg’s has come out with a grape flavored toaster pastry…they had a WILD version back in 2010, and apparently the grape flavor was around even long before 2010. These Frosted Grape ones came back over the summer and I finally got a chance to try them.

Limited Edition Frosted Grape Pop-Tarts: Dried…apples?
Limited Edition Frosted Grape Pop-Tarts are certainly NOT good for you, but I guess they’re no different than other Pop-Tart flavors. Still, it’s a LITTLE weird for me to see these Pop-Tarts contain dried apples. I want the grape, the whole grape, and nothing but the grape. I didn’t ask for apple sauce here.

Limited Edition Frosted Grape Pop-Tarts have purple and pink sugar sprinkles, which is cute. I didn’t get any overwhelming grape smell coming off of these at all.

After toasting these Limited Edition Frosted Grape Pop-Tarts, I was finally able to open one up and look inside. Sniffing the filling, I did get a grape smell, but nothing too unusual…or special.
Limited Edition Frosted Grape Pop-Tarts: SO DARK
So, I put these Limited Edition Frosted Grape Pop-Tarts into my “would not eat again” tag not because they were bad, but because they didn’t blow me away. Which begs the question – why are these limited edition again?
The Pop-Tart tastes exactly like you’d think – just a nice frosted sweet toaster pastry with the typical Pop-Tart shortening flakiness on the outside, sweet fruit flavor on the inside. The grape “jelly” is obviously the key factor here, and it wasn’t bad – pretty standard Pop-Tart smoothness, and decent grape flavor. And that’s it. In a lot of ways, the grape flavor weirdly got muted into the general sugary fruitiness of the puree when hot….I wondered if these tasted more “grape-y” if I ate these without toasting them.
I think I wanted to be smacked over the head with grape flavor, when quite frankly, if you had changed the color of the insides and called them…”berry” Pop-Tarts, I’m really not sure I would’ve noticed any different. I didn’t get any overwhelming Welch-s-like grape flavor; I just didn’t. Sort of disappointing.
So, while I’ll be excited when they finally make a Gone Nutty! PB & Grape Jelly Pop-Tart, I’ll leave these on the shelf next time.

Personally, from someone who’s first guilty pleasure in the morning is almost always a Pop Tart, I don’t want fruit Pop Tarts period. The closest thing to fruit Pop Tarts I eat are the Pumpkin Pie ones. I want all the crap and nothing but the crap…cookie dough is THE BEST.
My favorite Pop-Tarts are the vanilla frosted chocolate ones that I remember from when I was a kid. I was crazy excited when they made them again for the 50th anniversary. Grape Pop-Tarts were around when I was a kid, too, so maybe that’s why they’re “limited edition”? Because they’re a “retro” flavor? Man, I’m old.
On a related note: Almost any time you have “fruit’ in a processed good like this, you’re eating dried apples with the specific fruit flavor added. Big example is instant oatmeal, unless that’s changed very recently. Those aren’t peaches, baby!
Still looking for the pb&j poptarts. My Target and Walmart have only the PB ones. I am still thinking about your review of the PB and strawberry but i think PB and grape would be even better.
It’s like the old almond joy commercial…”sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don’t”. When it comes to my pop-tarts, sometimes I feel like fruit and sometimes I don’t. Basically I think I tend to go with the fruit ones because I perceive them as “more healthy” than the others. But I echo Sue’s comment that the PB&J should branch out beyond strawberry and include other flavors like raspberry, peach and ESPECIALLY the classic grape. And, hey, kellogg’s…why stop there? For those of us who find the pop-tart/cereal aisle in the grocery store dizzying, I have the solution. They need to make cereal and pop-tarts like they do Nerds candy – in side by side fashion. Why not have a pouch with a pb&j strawberry pastry and pb&j grape pastry together? Or give me one s’more pop-tart with frosted cherry one! Now that’s a bang up solution!
There should not be anything in the world that promotes PDA, especially in a restaurant! Pop tarts are only ten years older than me….and I never had one until college! My first was strawberry with frosting, still my favorite!
So, I was babysitting some really wretched kids a couple of weeks ago. To quell their hangry awfulness, I made them a “PB&J” out of these grape poptarts sandwiching some good ol’ Jif. That did the trick to shut them up. At least these poptarts are good for something!
I don’t understand why the drone operator tried to land it on her hand. The story didn’t say if it was the licensed operator or just some employee either. The only thing I can think of is that only the person flying the drone knew they were trying to land it on the womans hand. It must have got close to her face and she looked up or something…Also I like how Pop Tarts say “Baked with real fruit” and in the ingredient list dried grapes and apples are listed under 2% or less of
It’s never a good idea to fly anything with blades in the vicinity of someones face. Unless of course your goal is to mutilate their face.
I haven’t had a pop tart in years. I’d like to try the peanut butter kind someday but I just can’t justify 200 calories for one measly little tart that won’t even fill me up.
…I used to love me a brown sugar cinnamon pop tart back in the day though. 😉
Like you, I wasn’t blown away by these Frosted Grape Pop-Tarts. I usually eat Pop-Tarts untoasted and they were even less grapey that way. Still, they were fun to try. They’re actually pretty good with a little peanut butter spread on them. As for the mistletoe drones…WHAT THE HECK?! Can’t they just let people enjoy their potato skins and Jack Daniel’s burgers in peace?!
Sandwich this between two Gone Nutty Peanut butter ones and we might have something. Then warm the whole thing and spread cookie butter on it.
These would be great for putting peanut butter ice cream in between.
I love grapes, could pop them all day. However, I H-AT-E grape flavored stuff, I have yet to find anything grape flavored that I could stomach, except maybe champagne.
Maybe you could use these Pop-Tarts to make your own special PB&J hybrid, using the pastries as the bread portion and putting a generous portion of peanut butter in between. That sounds like an efficient use of the remaining pastries you have in the box.
I despise that mistletoe drone as much as the Kiss Cam – wait until it’s a brother / sister or father / daughter.
Pop-Tarts never appealed to me. Maybe crumbled on ice cream.

Meh, I’m not into grape for snacks anyways…soda? Maybe. But not in what’s supposed to be a sugar filled pastry that never goes in the toaster (despite being a ‘POP”-Tart).

As for the dried apples it there acting like a filler.Why not they went for the grape jelly format or even swirled a hybrid of grape/strawberry or grape/raspberry? Do a “duo” of Poptart. You know 2 halves together. MIND BLOWN!
I am a total PB&J purist so I was surprised when they decided to go with the strawberry and peanut butter pop tart before the classic grape and peanut butter but, to be honest I am not a big fan of the fakeish grape flavoring in foods, I guess I was ruined by grape medicine as a kid.
Yeah, I’ve seen it all when “Grape” is s limited edition flavor. All in all, not s bad flavor at all, though.
I don’t love grape flavored anything, but I stopped eating Poptarts once I had a Pillsbury Toaster Strudel. Once you eat one of those, you look at Poptarts like– how could I have ever eaten those cardboard slices?
Grape has always been my favorite flavor pop tart. I was so excited to see them on the shelf at walmart and this past weekend, I can not find them again 🙁 I am a grape jelly gal and I guess that is why this is my favorite flavor
