Review: Brach’s Jelly Candy Peppermint Creme Candy Canes & Peanut Butter into Diamonds???? DELICIOUS
Junk food Nation, quick story that was pointed out to me by a member of JFNation – a scientist in Germany is devoted to studying how the Earth’s crust, and surface, work. Part of his study includes experimentation with pressure and its effects on materials in our Earth. And the spin-off from this? He has attempted to create diamonds from peanut butter!
The science is very interesting, and I’m not going to explain it (read it here and here), but it got me thinking: What food would YOU want turned into a diamond, and how bad ass would that be?
“No, this isn’t a blood diamond, it’s a blood sausage diamond.”
“No, this isn’t from Jared, it was made from a partially eaten meatball sub from Subway’s Jared!”
“No, this isn’t from Blue Nile, it’s made from a meal I got from Blue Apron.”
The possibilities are endless! A Doritos Diamond! An Aunt Jemina Gemstone! A Rocky Road Rock! Me? I’d like my diamonds made from Twinkies. I dunno, I feel like those diamonds WOULD actually last forever.
So tell me in the comments below – what would you want YOUR diamonds to be made from?
Today’s junk food: Brach’s Jelly Candy Peppermint Creme Candy Canes!
Yes, yes I know, Junk Food Nation. Holiday candy already? Well, when I saw these Brach’s Jelly Candy Peppermint Creme Candy Canes, I couldn’t resist. Are they new? Who knows? But gummy peppermint candy canes? *I’D* never seen them before.
There’s not much to say otherwise – let’s do some photos and get right to the review:
Opening this bag of Brach’s Jelly Candy Peppermint Creme Candy Canes, I could smell the FAINT smell of peppermint…I mostly smelled sugar. As it should be.
I bit into one of these Brach’s Jelly Candy Peppermint Creme Candy Canes, and was surprised – I LIKED THEM! Basically they are a peppermint gum drop stretched into a candy cane shape. They weren’t really “gummy” as they were “gum drop.”
The flavor of the peppermint was very sweet, almost like a mix of spearmint and peppermint – like a sweet peppermint or a doublemint flavor. I haven’t LOVED mint flavor recently, but I have to say, I couldn’t stop eating these. There was something oddly refreshing about chewing this minty confection.
All in all, not my favorite candy, but not a bad one either. If you’re a fan of mint gumdrops, you’ll like these.
PURCHASED AT: Walgreens, Van Ness, DC
COST: $2.99

I knew you could run with that article. 😀 Me? Well it’s obvious that Pepperidge Farm could come out with a line of diamonds, one for every flavor, and I’d go with the Bordeaux. They have a special place in my heart. Plus it sounds fancier than “Peanut butter diamond.” But a Twinkie diamond somehow sounds extra sparkly (twinkie/twinkle association I guess), so you have me tempted there. I think pizza diamonds would sell really well. I wonder if the Health Food Nation (whoever they are) would get wheat grass diamonds.
@Indigo: Shhhhhhhhh we don’t talk about Health Food Nation around here 😉
What would I turn to diamonds? Probably beef (I hate eating it, might as well wear it!)
As far as Christmas treats go, I long ago decided that with the holiday no longer being about family and all about selling s**t, it’s the last good thing about it!
@Jessica: Beef diamonds…so tasty when rare.
I like the idea that these are more gum drop than gummy in textures. If I happen to be shopping at a drug store on a bad day, a bag of spice drop will make its way into my basket!
@Sophia: Yeah, I forget gum drops even EXIST until the holidays every year.
So you know those spearmint leaves that are like gum drops and have been around for forever? If these are like those except with peppermint….I am in! My diamond would be made of crunch berries….maybe it would have a nice pink hue to it….and those are my favorite!
@Sarah: These ARE sort of like those spearmint leaves! More double mint flavor though
