Review: Limited Edition Thomas Banana Bread Bagels & How Is This *NOT* the Rise of the Machines??
Junk Food Nation, yesterday Comcast, the cable company that I personally use here in DC, just bought Time Warner Cable, the cable company I used to use in NYC, for a cool $45 billion dollars. And I for one would like the members of the human resistance to rise up now to stop the Matrix from ever being built.
Let’s recap. Comcast already owns most of the Philly-to-DC corridor as far as cable TV. It has cable internet in 30 cities, and is present in 40 states. It owns 100% of NBC Universal. It partially owns almost all of the Philly sports teams. It owns E!, Esquire network, Golf Channel, Versus. And now they just acquired Time Warner, who mainly services NYC and the other small New England states, the Carolinas, Texas, etc. CAN’T YOU SEE WHAT IS HAPPENING??? As soon as Skynet solidifies its position, IT WILL ENSLAVE THE HUMAN RACE.
I already pay a buttload for cable, and think its ridiculous that I have to pay extra for ESPN 2 but I get the Hallmark Channel and friggin Spike TV for free. But now, Time Warner, you’ve given Comcast the chance to expand its reach even MORE??? DO you WANT to live in bubble pods being harvested like batteries? Do you WANT to be forced to pay $99.00 for basic cable? I’m not sure which is worse.
Where is John Connor, sitting at his living room table, shotgun in hand, looking over his cable bill, dark look in his eyes? “$20 a month for DVR? …..this….must….end…NOW.” Well, congrats Cyberdyne…I mean Comcast. Please be gentle when you stick that needle into the back of my head. At least more gentle than how much you charge for high speed internet.

I love bagels, but they are worse for your health than ice cream in a lot of ways. Ooof. So zip it – I’m reviewing these Limited Edition Thomas Banana Bread Bagels, and you’ll LIKE IT.

I love banana bread, so I have high expectations from these Limited Edition Thomas Banana Bread Bagels. Considering the fact that I eat at least one bagel a week, these’ll have to be pretty good to earn a permanent space on my shelf. After all, EVERYTHING BAGEL IS KING.

When I opened this bag of Limited Edition Thomas Banana Bread Bagels and sniffed, I have to be honest – it basically smelled like cinnamon raisin bagels! I smelled the breadiness of the bagel as well as the slight cinnamon spice.

When I took the first bite of one of these Limited Edition Thomas Banana Bread Bagels, I got a hint of banana bread. It was one of those moments where I breathed in as I chewed so I got both whatever smell was there plus the taste in my mouth, and the result was a slight burst of banana bread familiar flavor.

Everything came together, ever so briefly – the tangy sweetness of the banana lumps, the cinnamon-y slight sweetness of the bagel itself, it came together like a nice bite of banana bread.
The lacking qualities: there wasn’t that nice burnt-edge flavor that you usually get with banana bread. Plus, it’s still a bagel, so it’s not like there’s a TON of banana bread flavor, since I think the general breadiness of the bagel tends to drown a lot of the flavor out. Still, as I chewed, I did get a nice slight banana-ish taste.
All in all, I liked these – but if you’re looking to taste banana bread, just eat banana bread. Or the Stacy’s Bakery Shop Banana Bread Crisps. These are NOT a replacement at all. Good, but not great.

go with a mohu leaf plus antenna. I get 40 HD channels (ok about 20 if you don’t speak Spanish) and can watch basically anything I want for free. Storms have no effect on the quality

Or you could just, you know, not get cable 😛 I’ve been cable-free since December 2000 & haven’t looked back. Cable seems even more pointless with DVDs, Netflix & free streaming. I’ve been doing the digital TV antenna thing since 2008 & I get about 50 English channels. You know why your bill keeps going up, right? Sports leagues. Every TV deal MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL, NCAA, tennis, golf, etc cuts – both local & national – makes your bill go up. ESPN alone is $8+ a month of your bill.
I thought cable was outrageous when I was paying $40 a month & got annoyed with it going up every month. I had it for 30 months & that’s $1400 I’ll never get back.
@MP: I admire, truly, the cable-free. And I agree – it’s the sports which keep me coming back!!! Ugh.
@JFG: Thanks! All da Bearz games are on free local TV per NFL rules. There’s about 20 Blackhawks games, 35 Bulls games, 70 a piece from the White Sox & Cubs on free TV. Plus I grew up on radio so I can listen to every game free. It’s going to be interesting once the MLB teams local TV contracts expire. They might form their own channels or put all games on cable. That would suck for me, but we’ll see.
If there’s a game I *really* want to see, I’ll go to a friend’s house with cable or go to a bar. Yup, cable companies *know* sports is the last great true demand for live television.
Oh ya, I pay $15 a month for my WiFi. It downloads at 225 KB/sec which requires a few seconds of buffer waiting for shows, but it works well enough for me. Youtube barely moves at a 1/4th of that.
@MP: $15 a month??? Do you use Clear, or another company?
@JFG: Yes, I use Clear. Since January 2010. I’ve never had any problems with it, unless there’s a really bad storm, then it gets knocked out for a few hours.
No no, Junk Food Guy, Comcast *wants* to buy Time-Warner, but it has to be approved by the feds. It would be a lot bigger merger than the ATT/T-Mobile deal that was shot down, and there’s a ton of industry opposition, so I think the chance of it actually going through is pretty low.
@Mike N: Ah. When does the deal finalize? The deal is done now, no?
The only time I eat bagels is when I go to a work conference or traveling. I’ll spread butter on one half; jam on the other.
@Elisa: You know, I don’t think I’ve EVER had jam on a bagel. Whoa.
Yeah… Those little banana poops embedded in the bagel look like maggots that burrowed into a loaf of bread.

@junkfoodguy not unless its on cbs nbc abc or fox but if you have wifi or cn bum it off a neighbor (i pay mine $10 a month hey its $10 he wouldnt have) and i can watch any sport in the world live for free

Antenna doesn’t need Wi-Fi I was just saying that for sports there are plenty of free websites out there. My neighbor has comcast
I thought Clear was supposed to be cheap? I just checked it out and its was between 39 and 59 a month. Why wouldn’t you just go with Comcast or something?
Please do not discontinue this flavor. I have tried numerous flavors but the banana bread flavor is the best.
