Review: Wild Ophelia Peppermint Bark (A So Good Exclusive) & Tell Me About Your Holiday Decorations!
Junk Food Nation, it’s the holiday season and decorations are in full force. There are Hanukkah displays at my local Walmart. Christmas trees in front of my Wegmans. There are holiday cards covering every celebratory posture bursting out of my CVS. There are lights on people’s bushes, stores are decorating – the holiday cheer is here!
Except…in my apartment. I gots nothing.
Truthfully, the Junk Food Gal has been pushing to get a tree, so that’ll probably happen soon. But I want to know: What do YOU do to decorate for holidays, Junk Food Nation? Do you do lights? Do you do trees? Classy Menorah displays? Big giant cartoon manger scenes? Do you have decorations you’re saved since you were a kid, or family heirlooms passed down? Or are you a person who goes out looking for new stuff ONLY? “We’re doing a Hunger Games Christmas this year, kids!”
Well, I wanna know. Tweet me pictures. Send me photos via email. Facebook me some stories. Or just let me know in the comments below. If I get enough good ones, I’ll share some of the best in a later post. SOCIAL NETWORK ME EVIDENCE OF YOUR HOLIDAY SPIRIT!
Today’s junk food is a review I did over on So Good: Wild Ophelia Peppermint Bark! Here’s a preview:

So Good Blog readers! It’s Eric, your friendly neighborhood Junk Food Guy again, coming to you after a restful Thanksgiving, a quiet birthday, and a horribly frustrating fantasy football weekend. Seriously why do I do this to myself each year? Why do I set it up so that my Sunday nights are NOT restful, and instead involve me yelling at the TV “JUST PASS IT, ELI. JUST THROW THE BALL! NOT TO HIM! TO NICKS AAAAARGHHHHHHHHH…..*”
But I digress. I wanted to let you all know that Episode 18 of my podcast, the Nosh Show, is out today! Go take a listen.
Today’s junk food: Wild Ophelia Peppermint Bark!
Wild Ophelia Peppermint Bark is one of the newest flavors released by Vosges / Wild Ophelia. Now, we’ve all had peppermint bark before. I’ve reviewed a bunch of peppermint bark-y type things on my blog before. The concept is generally pretty simple – chocolate and candy cane pieces, melded together. Sometimes it’s white chocolate. Sometimes it’s coupled with chocolate cookie. Or sometimes, like here in the case of this Wild Ophelia Peppermint Bark, it’s made with “natural peppermint oil from Cascade Pacific Essential Oils. This premium aromatic peppermint oil from near the Cascade Mountains in Washington State and Oregon yields the highest quality natural peppermint leaves in the world and provides a tangy and cooling flavor.” Well, I feel fancy.

We always do two trees, one clear and one multi-colored. Outside, we have these cute little light up peppermint candies lining our front walkway. My neighbors, however, put up a hilariously tacky display of blue icicle lights. Not only are they all different shades of blue, but some of them blink while others don’t, and they’re all haphazardly hung. Every year it cracks me up.
@Linny: BLUE ICICLE LIGHTS! Nice. I like the idea of two trees though – what do you mean by, one clear? Like, all glass ornaments?
With an addition of a new young cat, I have decided to go decoration free this year. It wouldn’t matter what I put up, it would be ‘played’ with. My friends all suggest I get a small real tree, without ornaments that she could climb. While I’m sure this would be the best Christmas present for her, EVER…I don’t think I want to deal with needles all over the floor.
Not to mention sap all over the cat. Or teaching her that climbing the tree in the house is A-OK so that you can NEVER have a tree. Yeah – don’t do that.
@Dana: Sap on the cat! Gross – I never even thought of that
@ibagoalie – haha yeah I can see a little kitten tearing the whole thing apart. cute …and messy
