Review: Brach’s S’mores Candy Corn & Horrifying Moment of the Day: Belt Touching the Inside of a Urinal
Junk Food Nation, I’ve talked before about my interactions with one of the most disgusting things in the world: a urinal. Well, this morning’s interaction was no less vile. I got to the office and went to the bathroom to take care of business, and am standing there gaining perspective when I looked down and realized that the tip of my belt, the non-buckled end, was INSIDE the walls of the urinal, resting on the wall. GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.
I’m sure this has happened to every male out there. AND WHAT CAN YOU DO??? I quickly batted the tip out of the urinal walls with my hand like I was swatting a backhand lob. Like I was blocking a punch coming from the outside. But the damage was done…I could see the tip of my belt has some moisture on it!! THE HORROR.
Look, maybe I’m a little overly sensitive about this. BUT I WANTED TO BURN MY BELT IN THE HEART OF A MILLION SUNS. Way to ruin my day, Urinal!!!!
C’mon…has this happened to you? Am I crazy??? Sigh.
Today’s junk food: Brach’s S’mores Candy Corn!
yes, I know. I KNOW! I told you a couple days ago that I don’t LOVE candy corn. And that hasn’t changed. But when you have Brach’s S’mores Candy Corn staring you in the face, you have to try it. I mean, I’ve seen candy corn flavored all sorts of ways…but S’mores intrigues me. I mean, I LOVE S’mores. I hate candy corn. WHAT IS A JUNK FOOD REVIEWER TO DO??? Dive in, that’s what. *chest thump* *embarrassment at chest thump*
I know you all do what I do….you look at candy corn and BELIEVE that each of the different color layers taste different. And sometimes they do! So what do you think the different layers in this Brach’s S’mores Candy Corn taste like? Orange is the cracker, white is the marshmallow, and brown is the chocolate? Sounds good to me…
You know, I DID see that Brach’s released another candy corn bag that had candy corn mixed with nuts. IS THAT GOOD? Someone do recon and tell me. Candy Corn with peanuts???? I mean, I GUESS that would work…but it seems awful weird to me.
Brach’s S’mores Candy Corn
Brach’s S’mores Candy Corn can become lodged in your throat…yikes. Not that we didn’t know this, but reading this warning label still gives me the heebie jeebies. I’m never letting my eventual kids eat anything small, ever.
Brach’s S’mores Candy Corn smelled like…well, S’mores. Well, that’s not quite accurate…it smelled like a mix of honey and burnt marshmallow. Which, to me, was a very positive sign. I did a few hints of the overly vanilla candy corn smell…but the burnt marshmallow and honey smells were undeniably there. Interesting.
Brach’s S’mores Candy Corn, I must admit, were pretty damn good…and AGAIN, I DO NOT LIKE CANDY CORN. (Hmmm…maybe I *DO* like candy corn and am in denial???)
The candy corn definitely had the essence of S’mores. Unmistakable. As I chewed the waxy candy, the first taste I got was the burnt marshmallow flavor, sugary and sare I say smoky? Ok, maybe that’s going too far. But a familiar burnt marshmallow taste was there.
The semi-chocolate-y flavor came next, mixing with the marshmallow taste to produce, in my mind, the S’mores taste I know and love. I was actually pretty impressed with how it came together. God knows what type of freaky chemicals came together to make these flavors, but Brach’s did a good job here.
I was going to give up on tasting any graham flavor, but as I chewed more, I realized that the aftertaste CLEARLY smacked of honey. The honey flavor was pretty noticeable, once I realized the flavor. So, all in all, this candy corn had everything – marshmallow, cocoa, and honey flavor. For something represented as S’mores Candy Corn…these were spot on.
GOOD WORK BRACH’S. Seriously, thumbs up.

Re: candy corn and peanuts–if you like Payday candybars, then you would like this combo. The sweet and salty duet is hard to beat. Granted, I am a candy corn fanatic, but together, it really does read Payday to your tastebuds.
Also, if you hate candy corn does this mean you won’t try the new Oreo Limited Edition Candy Corn flavor? I thought of this blog instantly when I saw it at Target yesterday. I’m hoping you’ll give it a shot.
@Spierce28: I have tried them, and my funny friend Jen reviewed them last year 🙂 Check it out!

Do you know exactly when the Brach’s Candy Corn with Peanuts was introduced?
If you visit my blog you will see this “Poor Man’s Pay Day” Recipe using the red skin peanuts and Brach’s candy corn. This is a very old homemade recipe and I can be certain that it was made before Brach’s ever introduced their version but I would like it if someone had a concrete date.

Thanks!!
@Angela O: THAT RECIPE IS AWESOME!
I’ve been wanting to try these, but been wary of them since I wasn’t sure exactly how well s’mores would translate to candy corn.
And, yeah, the peanuts and candy corn bag is WEIRD! My husband and I keep looking at them like “Is this… is this a thing?” every time we walk past the Halloween candy (I’m constantly hoping my local stores will stock Zachary’s candy corn because seriously, Brach’s is awful compared to Zachary’s).
@Alley: Is Zachary’s a local area candy corn producer? Where do you live?
Peanuts and candy corn really is a thing! Do a search on Payday mix recipe and you’ll see. I guess I won’t spring for the Oreos based on that review. We didn’t get these in the St. Louis area last year, so I thought they were new. I’ll stick to the real thing. 🙂
@Spierce: I NEVER THOUGH OF IT THAT WAY (candy corn and nuts = PayDay flavor). Now I kinda REALLY want to try it. THanks for opening my eyes!!!

@Angela O: I’ve been learning/finding out that Zachary’s > Brachs
We are so close to someone bringing out Nuts & Gum! Come on Brach’s: I’m a white male, age 18 to 49. Everyone listens to me, no matter how dumb my suggestions are.
@Kahnfucius: +1
You absolutely have to try candy corn and peanuts….better yet, dip the candy corn in peanut BUTTER…..it is the most addicting thing in the world…tastes exactly like a butterfinger
@Aaron – hmmmmmmm you’re intriguing me
o wait…..i forgot to add m&ms in that mix….candy corn, peanut butter, and m&ms.
I remember seeing green apple and cherry (or some other red fruit) flavor candy corn while in grad school a few years ago. No, neither great.
I like buying Brach’s fall harvest mix (regular candy corn, chocolate-tipped candy corn, and pumpkins) in Oct.
@Elisa: Harvest mix is a candy corn hater’s (me) nightmare 😉
That urinal thing has never happened to me before. I don’t think I’ve ever worn pants where I had to unbuckle my belt to use a urinal. I’d definitely be pretty disgusted if it did somehow happen though.
@Devin: I always unbuckle because those little slits in pants and underwear ALWAYS MESS UP ON ME and I end up with a wet spot. Double gross
Yeah man I’ve been there. That is the worst. One time I had headphones on, the lil earbuds and when I’m walking around in a fairly public place I’ll throw one of them over my neck and leave one in just so I can hear a little bit of what’s going on around me.. One urinal trip I glanced down to see somehow the other earbud had came back around my neck and was touching the urinal. Instant trash. No amount of rubbing alcohol would have made me feel good about that.
@TehBull: THE HORROR! Your earbud story makes me cringe and want to hide under my bed. I concur with the throwing away, followed by gasoline and a match
I’m in northern DE. I make a special trip to Big Lots to get the Zachary’s candy corn b/c all my local supermarkets only carry Brach’s in bags. My local Giant and Acme actually sell Zachary’s caramel apple candy corn and their autumn mix (you know, the stuff with the mini pumpkins and candy corn), but in those big clear plastic tubs rather than bags, so you could probably look out for those. Zachary’s was the company Target used for their house brand candy corn when they used to carry it (maybe they still carry it? Our local Targets only seem to have Brach’s anymore), so it must be a national brand.
@Alley: Ah, I see. Next time I’m in Delaware I’m going to try to pick some up…I haven’t seen plastic tubs of Candy Corn in a while. But maybe I haven’t been looking hard enough. You’ve piqued my interest thought
I tried and reviewed these on my blog. I’m on the opposite end. If it weren’t for the chocolate flavor, I’d have probably liked these. But I thought the cocoa tasted really cheap and unpleasant.
@Kenneth: Yeah, I wonder if they tried making these DIPPED candy corn, how that would’ve been? hmmmmmm……idea
If you have candy corn and peanuts, you have to use redskin spanish peanuts. It tastes so much better!
@Pamela: How come? Do the red peanuts have a less/more salty taste or something?
I love candy corn, and I love s’mores, but I don’t want s’mores-flavored candy corn any more than I want candy-covered flavored s’mores. Same as how pizza-flavored ice cream will never work.
@Holly: Your logic is sound 😉 But would you eat…say….pizza flavored grilled cheese? Or….grilled cheese flavored pizza?
Little late to the party but the whole peanut/candy corn thing can be taken up a notch. I’ve seen a bunch of recipes online for making homemade butterfinger bars with candy corn http://recipecircus.com/recipes/nanamitchem/CANDY/Butterfinger_Bars_Using_Candy_Corn.html It’s an interesting concept but I lack ambition=]
@Nick: That recipe looks…crazy. Crazy easy…but I’m still scared. AND I wish there were pictures! Maybe I’ll just make it.
I am not a big fan of candy corn either. . unless all the good candy collected via my daughter is gone and I have to settle. My mom did introduce me to a recipe though that is pretty delicious! Just mix candy corn, peanuts and chopped apples and let them sit in the fridge for a couple hours. The moisture from the apples combined with the candy corn makes a yummy glaze 😉
@Jesspino – The idea of mixing apples and candy corn seems intriguing….doesn’t the candy corn get all mushy, though, with the moisture? Or, is that the point?
I used to work at Ferrara candy as a package designer until about 3 months ago. The s’mores candy corn was definitely the favorite flavor around the office. And the corn and nut combo came along for the 2013 halloween season if I remember correctly.
@Wahkeema – haha nice! I LOVE the corn/nut combo.
