Junk Food Nation, HAPPY THURSDAY.  Feels like Friday, doesn’t it?  Labor Day is finally here, and I’m heading out of town.  So, THERE WILL BE NO POST TOMORROW.  Just wanted to put it out there, so no one freaks out.  You can follow any of my travel adventures over on Facebook and Twitter and Instagram, of course.

Quick story: over the weekend, I was having one of my monthly hit-five-or-ten-stores-to-look-for-new-snacks sprees, and stopped at Target. On the way in, a Kashi rep was giving out free Kashi promotional granola bars, Berry Lemonade flavor.  I don’t LOVE Kashi, but I grabbed one anyways, and walked to the back to look for food treasures.

On my way out, I was passing by that same Kashi rep as a family of three was walking in: father, mother, and what looked to be a 12-year-old daughter.  The mom, looking to avoid eye contact with the smiling rep, nudged her daughter and said, “Go grab one of those and taste it.”

The daughter whined, “Why do *I* have to be the taste tester.” You know how little kids whine sometimes.  Why do IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII have to be the taste tester???

And the father, without missing a beat, I swear, replied, “‘Cause you’re the dumbest.”

This is what I heard as I was speeding out the door to my car, so in my haste, the father COULD’VE said, “‘Cause you’re the youngest” …but that’s NOT what I heard.  ‘Cause you’re the dumbest.  Wow.  I chuckled, felt bad, and quickly went home to record the story for this blog.  See? I focus on things that matter.

Hey there, So Good Readers!  It’s your friendly neighborhood Junk Food Guy, and watching the MTV VMAs last night, I felt old.  Old old old.  First of all, I had no idea who anyone was, and the people who I *DID* recognize – well, I was sorry that I did (I’m looking at you, Miley Cyrus. *Smacks nose with rolled up newspaper* NO! NO! BAD CRAZY ASS POP STAR! NO!)

Thankfully, I was able to look away from the trainwreck that the VMAs usually are in order to enjoy some comfort food; or in this case, comfort snack….today’s junk food is Limited Edition Caramelized Onion Ritz Crackers!

I first clued in on Limited Edition Caramelized Onion Ritz Crackers by a Twitter friend, King Rhino.  Now, I know that recently Ritz has been flavoring it up, with Garden Vegetable and Garlic Butter  varieties, for example.  I haven’t tried those, but these new Limited Edition Ritz intrigued me.  Caramelized Onion?  I LOVE ONION.  All of my cooking typically begins with onion.  And there is nothing better than caramelized onions on a burger…in fact….
