Review: Good Boy Organics Organicasaurus Cheddar Cheese Baked Organic Corn Snack & WHAT IS HAPPENING TO MY EARS!?
Junk Food Nation, when I was younger, my parents had this old old old TV in the living room that was one of those HUGE TUBE TVs. And it used to let out this high pitched squeal whenever it was on. My parents would just sit there, watching the news, and I couldn’t believe they weren’t being driven crazy by the squeal! I knew that people’s hearing faded as they aged, but c’mon…they HAD to hear this noise, IT WAS SO LOUD AND MIND CURLING. But they didn’t.
I forgot about that moment until recently, where I felt like I was going deaf because my iPhone headphones had to be turned up ALL THE WAY for me to be able to hear my music on the Metro. I got kind of scared because I thought that all my years of listening to music loudly had finally taken its toll – I was finally losing my hearing.
Well, those headphones broke recently, and I replaced it with a new pair….WHOA. Turns out I wasn’t losing my hearing at all. My old headphones just SUCKED. But…wait. Was I losing my hearing? I didn’t think so, until I saw this video:
WHAT. THE. HELL. As the video progressed, my jaw dropped. Oh no. OH NO!!!! I COULDN’T HEAR IT. I remember being a little kid, easily hearing high noises in those public-school-mandated hearing tests. But now, I’d probably fail horribly. And it appears, according to the video, THAT IT WILL NEVER COME BACK.
Talk about a jarring thought for Friday, no? I’m definitely upset about it. MY PRECIOUS PRECIOUS HEARING! 🙁
Tday’s junk food: Good Boy Organics Organicasaurus Cheddar Cheese Baked Organic Corn Snack! (THAT’S a mouthful…literally 😛 )
I saw these Good Boy Organics Organicasaurus Cheddar Cheese Baked Organic Corn Snacks first at the Fancy Food Show, and stopped in my tracks. As far as I could tell, they were the ONLY COMPANY making cheese puffs at the show. And not only that, but they were DINOSAUR SHAPED!? You’ve got to be kidding me. I walked right over.
Good Boy Organics Organicasaurus Cheddar Cheese Baked Organic Corn Snacks are, in essence, a organic, healthy, non-GMO corn puff! Sure, the name is a mouthful, but whatever. Such a colorful bag, with bright letters – loved the entire look of this. The T-Rex’s arms are a little big, though. I want little T-Rex arms, like chicken wings. This T-Rex looks like he has some biceps.
Good Boy Organics’ tag line on this snack is “Sustainability meets Crunchability.” Hey, I LIKE BOTH OF THOSE THINGS. Cool.
From their site: “Has really good, really healthy food ever been this fun? Every puffed-up prehistoric mouthful of this one-of-a-kind snack is chock full of real cheddar cheese and other organic ingredients, and is non-GMO and gluten-free. In fact, it’s the only cheese corn puff on the market that can say it’s USDA Organic. And you thought the combo of tasty and healthy was extinct.”
Plus, only 10 calories a puff!
Also from their site: “Q: Silicon Dioxide sounds suspicious?
“A: We know, but it’s actually a naturally occurring mineral found in fruits and veggies like oranges, apples, asparagus, and beets. It’s in coffee, oats, and other foods too. Sometimes it’s referred to as silica, and it moves like sand (it’s actually a major component of sand), so one of the cool things it can do is help our Certified Organic spices ‘flow’ more during production, without adding synthetic chemicals. We’re up for giving it a friendlier nickname if you want to suggest one.”
Just call it “Food Sand.” DONE!
(PS: These products come from Hornell, NY. That’s near where I grew up! UPSTATE, REPRESENT.)
3-D DINOSAUR SHAPES….SORT OF!
Let’s just get right to the nuts and bolts of these Good Boy Organics Organicasaurus Cheddar Cheese Baked Organic Corn Snacks – they were REALLY REALLY GOOD. I remember eating them at the Fancy Food Show, and my eyes lit up. My mind was spinning; these tasted and crunched just like the cheesy puffs I’ve come to know and love, and they were healthy and organic now???? Wowza.
The crunch – these had a softer crunch, which I liked. Nice and firm, but the type that once placed in the mouth, crunched nicely without much shredding of the roof. Like, I could crush these with my tongue against the roof of my mouth, sending cheesy powder everywhere. Loved that.
The taste – NICE AND CHEESY. There’s simply not much more to be said. Despite the cheese powder not visibly falling off of the corn puff because it’s coated on so thick, these packed a strong cheesy flavor! It must be because the cheese powder is baked right in there, rather than only sprinkled on after the fact. The taste was sharp and satisfying.
All in all, these were some DAMN GOOD Organic cheese puffs. The fact that they were “shaped” like dinosaurs was even better 🙂 If you can find these – buy them.
PURCHASED AT: You can buy it here. Trust me. You’ll like them.

I believe that’s an organicasaurus, not a T-Rex. AHEM.
Seeing the word “organic” that many times in the name of a product makes me want to go find some corn and spray it with glyphosate, frankly, but I love the shapes.
@Lindemann – “I believe that’s an organicasaurus, not a T-Rex” — Me: *mind semi blown* D’oh! YOU, sir, are correct. Damnit.
I remember those school hearing tests! Last month, Dr. Gupta was on CNN’s morning newscast discussing the same subject in your post.
I keep my iPod at home; I don’t see the need to carry it around when I go out.
@Elisa: I typically listen to music on the way to and from work all the time, is all. I’ve been getting a LOT of feedback – I’ve been depressing everyone with my hearing test!
Haha! 17000 Hz baby! I should note that I am 38. Just putting that out there to twist the knife a little. 🙂
@Kel: JEALOUS!
