Junk Food Nation, it’s the day after Cinco De Mayo, and boy are my arms tired.  Wait, is that how that joke goes?  It isn’t.  Whatever.  I wanted to let you all know that I’ll be in LA this weekend, so if there are some fast food joints or food items on the West Coast you guys think I should try, please please please let me know in the comments below.  Otherwise, I shall be gorging on In N Out for the entire time while I’m out there.  Hint hint, In N Out…sponsor me.  Not a subtle hint.

Now, onto the contest.  You guys did great! (Sorry, I don’t mean it to sound like I’m complimenting grade schoolers…”YOU DID GREAT YAAAAAAY”).  Now, but really, you guys were all over this contest.  Again with over 100 entries, you helped get that Cabo Chips name out there and you showed the Junk Food Guy some love…it was awesome.  Thank you, and a big thank you to Cabo Chips for helping make this happen.

Today’s junk food: Talenti Caribbean Coconut Gelato Pops!

Talenti Caribbean Coconut Gelato Pops

Talenti Caribbean Coconut Gelato Pops: The Money Shot

Talenti Caribbean Coconut Gelato Pops were found at my local Harris Teeter and I almost jumped out of my skin when I saw them.  That great Talenti Gelato PLUS a coating of dark rich chocolate, all on a stick??  WHAT!?  Amazing.

Talenti Caribbean Coconut Gelato Pops: ALL GOOD IN THE HOOD

And these Talenti Caribbean Coconut Gelato Pops aren’t the only flavors they have.  I saw Talenti Sea Salt Caramel (Ice Cream Informant has a review of those here), Tahitian Vanilla Bean, and one of their chocolate flavors too.  Four varieties in all, to include these coconut ones.

Talenti Caribbean Coconut Gelato Pops: Actually NOT BAD as far as calorie count goes

Talenti Caribbean Coconut Gelato Pops have 170 calories per bar, and there are three inside.  10 ingredients total.  I don’t to totally geek out, but I am loving everything about this packaging so far too!  Simple, and not full of unnecessary colors or print.  Just a nice simple description and some nice art.  Thumbs up.

Talenti Caribbean Coconut Gelato Pops: Wrapped in foil

Each of these Talenti Caribbean Coconut Gelato Pops is wrapped in this foil wrap, with the bar position exactly opposite of how the art looks on the wrapper.  I’m giddy.

Talenti Caribbean Coconut Gelato Pops: Dark chocolate covered

When I unwrapped the Talenti Caribbean Coconut Gelato Pop, I was excited to see that it wasn’t cracked or broken.  I placed my nose close and sniffed – nice chocolate smell.  Could I detect any coconut? Not really.    I appreciate the Talenti stamp on the stick, however.  The little things, you know?

Talenti Caribbean Coconut Gelato Pops: THICK CHOCOLATE SHELL

These Talenti Caribbean Coconut Gelato Pops were, simply, delicious.  Put these in the favorite category, friends.  I knew I had the right choice buying the Caribbean Coconut variety.  Holy cow, Talenti, you can do no wrong. I bow down.

The exterior of the bar was a nice crisp shell of dark rich chocolate, just as the package suggests.  And it, to me, didn’t taste like some low grade BS.  This was genuinely rich chocolate that was sweet but dark in flavor, had a slight bitterness, and melted pleasingly on my tongue.  The chocolate flavor was nice and strong. The shell thickness was enough to contain everything – sturdy even after biting such that it didn’t fall apart everywhere after the initial breach by my teeth.

Talenti Caribbean Coconut Gelato Pops: Delicious coconut gelato

And the gelato inside of these Talenti Caribbean Coconut Gelato Pops was cool and refreshing.  Just the smoothest gelato ever, ice cold and but never icey.  The coconut flavor was there, but it was not overpowering and did not taste artificial (IMO).  I haven’t had the actual regular Talenti Caribbean Coconut Gelato flavor by itself before, so this was a new taste for me.  It was creamy (just a little vanilla in there, I felt), but did not taste like vanilla ice cream flavored with coconut.  This was definitely a cold coconut creation, cool and refreshing.

Together, the combo of dark chocolate and cold coconut refreshment was OUT OF THIS WORLD.  Crazy good. CRAZY GOOD.  It worked so well together – the dark warmth of the chocolate being swarmed by the cool taste of the gelato.  The coconut flavor ebbed from the mouthful consistently, not overpowering, merely complementing.

A very good combo, from construction to flavor.  Top marks.  Eat this.

Those sound divine! If two things were meant to be together it’s coconut and dark chocolate. Mmm! Too bad all the good stuff has milk in it 🙁

  2. Lindemann says:

$5.29 for three pops? That’s…impressive. I guess “Green Earth” (I have no idea what that assertion means) doesn’t come cheap.

Today is Return of the 6th! Even though I hate coconut I’m jealous that you’re able to find these bar. It took forever for my area to get the pints so I doubt I’ll be seeing these or any of the others any time soon. Speaking of their pints though, I just recently tried their double dark chocolate and man did they blow that one out of the park. It’s definitely one of my favorite chocolate flavors now. All I need to do is try their strawberry and they might hit the neapolitan trifecta with them already being my favorite vanilla and possibly my favorite chocolate.

@Nick: LOL, return of the 6th. I do love a good pun. I hope Talenti makes it out your way soon – why wouldn’t NYC be a MUST-TARGET market??? Makes no sense.

    • Nick Rovo says:

@Eric, don’t forget I’m in upstate not nyc area. I’m like in the middle of no where aha.

  4. You’re killing us over here. It’s all because of you that my wife and I are hooked on the Talenti. Already on our 3rd and 4th flavors, all great so far. (Also, all purchased only when on sale, because the regular prices are frankly nuts.)

  5. Sascha says:

Nothing Talenti makes has ever failed to impress. Easily the best quality line of ice creams/gelatos on the shelf around here. I’m not a fan of chocolate ice cream, but even the Belgian Milk flavored Talenti is incredible. Best so far has to be the Egg Nog flavor.

Oh, and these sound awesome, time to find them.

  6. Eunice says:

Kind of reminds me a higher quality version of a mounds ice cream bar, no?

Anywho, as for LA hot spots:

    -Scoops Ice cream
    -Genwa Korean BBQ
    -Bottega Louie
    -Daikokuya (Japanese Ramen)

Have a good time in California!!

  7. DiamondNDarkness says:

Thank you for this review! I have been dying to try something new with coconut. Now, I have to see if I can find these at Stop & Shop.

  8. Gina says:

I am currently eating the pint flavor of coconut and it is so delicious! I like that there are ingredients there that I recognize and not a bunch of other things that make me wonder if I will grow another arm. I recommend it.
