Junk Food Nation, I know today seems all doom and gloomy.  Here in DC, people are flipping out about the sequester, with plenty of finger pointing going on.  Justice Scalia and Justice Sotomayor are sparring on the land’s highest court.  And abroad, we have no Pope!  It’s bedlam, people, BEDLAM!

Plus, today is still chilly.  Stupid Smarch weather.

But *I*, for one, LOVE March.  It very well be my favorite month of the year. I talked about why, last year, but this is as good a time as any to restate why MARCH IS GREAT.

1)      SUNDRESS SEASON.  March 1^st in DC officially marks the beginning of Sundress Season, which is to say, it’s the season where all the females in DC decide, after a few months of freezing climate, that “Hey, 50 is warmer than 40…time to show some skin!”  Hey, I’m not arguing; like I said last year, during Sundress Season, the # of degrees out equals the % of skin you let the sun hit.  If you house thermostat was set at 65, you’d be walking around shivering telling your parents to stop being cheapskates and crank that baby up to 72.  Here?  Girls are sunbathing on rooftops and dudes are jogging shirtless and sundresses are everywhere.  By the way, Sundress Season is also known as Creepy Guy Staring At You Season.  Of course, It’s already been Creepy Guy Season for a while now, because girls have been celebrating If-I-Wear-Tights-I-Can-Wear-Amazingly-Short-Skirt Season.  Apparently that’s an OK thing.  Again, I’m not arguing.

2)      SPORTS TIME! You think I HAVEN’T been watching constant Yankee Spring Training games on my MLB.TV premium package (thanks Jen!).  You think I HAVEN’T wasted my life away during the evenings watching useless NFL Combine footage?  Plus, Conference Tournaments and March Madness, the undisputed king of sports postseason tournament???  Don’t even get me started, I’m about to have a giddy-attack right here.  Plus, the final stretches of hockey, basketball, golf…..GAAAH so happy.

3)       SHAM. ROCK. SHAKES. They are back. That is all.  Rejoice, people. REJOICE.

Today’s junk food: Ben & Jerry’s Pineapple Passionfruit Greek Frozen Yogurt!

Ben & Jerry’s Vanilla Honey Caramel Greek Frozen Yogurt

The picture above is NOT Ben & Jerry’s Pineapple Passionfruit Greek Frozen Yogurt.  It is the Vanilla Honey Caramel Froyo…I didn’t buy this one, because I’m still enjoying my last bites of Turkey Hill’s Baklava Greek Frozen Yogurt.  But I wanted to let you know that this flavor DOES exist, and I’d be curious how it tastes 🙂

Ben & Jerry’s Pineapple Passionfruit Greek Frozen Yogurt: The Money Shot

Two days ago, I reviewed the Ben & Jerry’s 30 Rock Liz Lemon Froyo.  Up top, I showed you another flavor of froyo Ben & Jerry’s has released: Vanilla Honey Caramel.  And now, I shall review Ben & Jerry’s Pineapple Passionfruit Greek Frozen Yogurt – one I am TRULY excited about.

Why am I so excited about this? BECAUSE I LOVE PASSIONFRUIT!  Passionfruit, for anyone who hasn’t tried it, is basically this maroon looking egg shaped thing that you crack the top off and you can dig out the interior delicious delicious pulp with a spoon and swallow everything down, seeds and all. The flavor is tart, sweet, sour – it’s like the best fruit candy ever.  I LOVE IT I LOVE IT.  Full of flavor.  And now in froyo?  Sweet.

Unfortunately, this tub of Ben & Jerry’s Pineapple Passionfruit Greek Frozen Yogurt had no sepcific descriptions on the side. Way to be lazy!

When I cracked open this Ben & Jerry’s Pineapple Passionfruit Greek Frozen Yogurt, I could smell a slight citrus smell, and general sweet creaminess. Sort of.  I might’ve been imagining all of this.  I do like that one streak of passionfruit swirl sticking out…so excited….

OMG.  Holy smoke, this was awesome.  Sorry, I’m getting ahead of myself…but, YUM. Ben & Jerry’s Pineapple Passionfruit Greek Frozen Yogurt, YUM.

this Ben & Jerry’s Pineapple Passionfruit Greek Frozen Yogurt was everything I wanted it to be.  The texture of the frozen yogurt – nice and smooth, as the pineapple chunks didn’t upset the rhythm of my spoon at all. The froyo itself as smooth, sweet, and had a nice citrus-y flavor.  Not sure if I could distinctly cal it pineapple-flavor, but it did have a nice citrus-ness to it that complemented the tartness of the yogurt VERY well.  VERY refreshing.

But the best of this Ben & Jerry’s Pineapple Passionfruit Greek Frozen Yogurt was the passionfruit swirl!  I LOVE PASSIONFRUIT, and the swirl was RIGHT on point!  Passionfruit is very sharp and sweet and sour and pungent, and this swirl packed ALL of that punch – in fact, it made the whole frozen yogurt taste more like passionfruit frozen yogurt, than pineapple froyo, which was ok with me.  But if there was ONLY passionfruit, it might’ve been a bit overwhelming – here the pineapple froyo balanced SO WELL with the passionfruit swirl, reigning that strong flavor in a bit so that it was nicely balanced. The pineapple chunks were there too – soft and chewy.  There weren’t a ton of them, but there were enough chunks that when you bit into one, there was enough difference in texture to make the whole tub interesting.

What resulted was a nice, citrus-y fruity froyo that had a LOT of flavor and was very refreshing.  It tasted a lot like those fancy schmacy frozen offerings that a high priced restaurant might present.  Put this on my favorites list – I REALLY enjoyed this one!
