In Stores Now (Holiday Recap Edition)!
Good morning, Junk Food Nation. Can I still say good morning when it’s after 10am? I mean, it’s before noon, so I guess, but when I wake up and most restaurants are starting to fire up their lunch menus, it might be too late to say Good Morning. Good Mornfternoon? This needs more thought.
A few days ago I talked about how the Holidays were here now that Halloween was over. And nothing confirmed it more than when I went into my local Walgreens and saw this:
Candy canes everywhere!!!! WHAAAA??? Last year, I did a post about all the candy canes that were released, from Sour canes to chocolate canes…and they haven’t stopped making them. I’m sure some of these boxes were leftover from last year. I mean, do canes made of sugar EVER expire? I say nay.
So I thought it’d be fun to see what else was BACK in stores from last season, and point you to my review of them. Without further ado: In Stores Now (Holiday Recap Edition)!
ROLD GOLD PEPPERMINT DIPPED SNOWFLAKES ARE THE BEST, and I found these again at my local Walgreens. I wrote about these last year: “The pretzel was crisp and indeed salty, which blended well with the immediately sweet fudgey tasted of the white fudge and the strong strong flavor of the peppermint. These were tasty and refreshing at the same time…”
In short, go buy these NOW.
I could’ve sworn I reviewed these Ghirardelli Peppermint Bark Squares at some point, but I can’t find the review. No matter. A good chocolate company, making dark/white chocolate with bits of candy cane in it? I mean, is peppermint bark great or WHAT? I sometimes think I like peppermint bark more than oxygen. But then I realize oxygen is necessary to life. Peppermint bark – close second. Let’s just say it’s 1 and 1A.
I reviewed these Egg Nog Nips last year also, noting that these did indeed taste like egg nog. Still, Nips as well as Werther’s Originals are old man candies. They just are. Walgreens, knock it off with the old man candy.
I was SO excited to visit my local Safeway and re-spot these Snack Factor White Chocolate and Peppermint Pretzel Crisps!!!! I reviewed these last year, noting, “The salty of the pretzel, here, worked REALLY well with the sweetness of the white chocolate. This combo was REALLY good, and my theory was confirmed. You need the extra sweetness to really make the salt pretzel stand out and contrast. The combo of salt and sugar made for the perfect savory/sweet result…”
I bought a few bags. Few=lots.
Snack Factory Dark Chocolate and Peppermint Pretzel Crisps are back in stores too, at Safeway, and I discussed these last year. As I noted in my comparisons between the White Chocolate and the Dark Chocolate varieties last year, if you’re choosing between the two, DEFINITELY go white chocolate – the dark chocolate isn’t sweet enough IMO to make the pretzel salt pop, and the white chocolate accomplishes this nicely.
Alright that’s all for now. Happy Saturday! I’m off to find some more holiday goodies.

Oh my God I love those fruit rainbow CC!
In that first picture I see a Hersheys one. I wonder if that tastes like a York Peppermint Patty.. and an Andes Mint even. Speaking of, they should make CC dipped in chocolate.
@Smile: yeah, they have candy candes in EVERY flavor now. And as far as chocolate dipped candy canes, I’m sure they exist somewhere…
Bah Christmas go away! Excuse me while I lock myself in a tiny room until mid January.
@Nick: HA…we are heading into that territory where there will start to be candy canes and peppermint bark EVERYWHERE. I saw that you guys had grasshopper ice cream on OSS recently too. Do you at least have a favorite flavor ice cream that only seems to be released around the holidays?
Haagen Dazs Peppermint Bark would have to be my holiday flavor of choice. I really can’t think of too many holiday flavors out there for Christmas time but I do like a good pumpkin ice cream as well if that counts.
@Nick – are you ready for the Lexus December to Remember Event?
@Shorneys, if you’re buying me an IS250 I am;]
I’m so frustrated. I went to all 3 of my surrounding Walgreens and none of them have these. Ugh.
@SC – ack, I’m sorry man. I’m equally as frustrated being unable to find the Gingerbread oreos.
