Review: Cosmos Strawberry Corns (Better Late Than Never) (Not Really)
Junk Food Nation, yep…it’s almost quittin’ time. Oh what’s that? I forgot to post a new junk food today? Argh…you’re right!
Today’s junk food: Cosmos Strawberry Corns!
Remember the last time I reviewed a Cosmos product? The one that looked like dog poop? yeah, you remember. Well, Cosmos is back at it again with these Cosmos Strawberry Corns. So pink….so very disturbingly pink. These are pink-dyed Cheetos that taste sweet. Wow.
From the bag picture above and this one, the shape of these Cosmos Strawberry Corns is NOT in dog poop shape (thankfully). Instead it looks like they’ve gone with the tactic of making these Xs and Os shapes. For what, I wonder – no real rhyme or reason behind it. To play Tic Tac Toe? To draw up football plays?
I can’t read Korean, so I can’t fathom what is possibly being said on the back of this bag. I can, however, read English, and I find the inclusion of “strawberry seasoning” to be quite troubling. Especially since the strawberry seasoning contains peanuts. WHAT.
This bag of Cosmos Strawberry Corns smelled of strawberry – a little TOO much so. You know how when you open a tub of strawberry ice cream or Froot Loops, an almost TOO sweet smell comes out? Yeah, that’s what happened here. Worried about how these taste. Again, sweet Cheetos? Yikes.
I popped several of these Cosmos Strawberry Corns into my mouth and chewed…and……well, it wasn’t horrible. The texture = stale cheese puff. This is a puffed corn snack that when you bit into it, didn’t have a great snap or crunch, it just sort of compressed like I was biting into a Circus Peanut. Meh – not the best start.
The flavor was artificial but not entirely off-putting. Quite simply this tasted like a sweet fruity cereal, not unlike Froot Loops or Apple Jacks. It had a sweet strawberry taste that evoked memories of a strawberry ice cream or a strawberry pastry or something – that sort of sweet artificial “THIS IS WHAT STRAWBERRY TASTES LIKE” flavor. But since I was used to tasting this flavor having eaten plenty of Pop-Tarts and breakfast bars that included this sort of flavor profile – I got used to it pretty quickly?
As a total snack? A big ol MEH. Like the Cosmos Chocolate Corns, it’s not disgusting – I could certainly eat these – but I’ll never eat these again by CHOICE. This is in the bottom rung of snacks for me.
PURCHASED AT: Lotte Korean Grocery Store

there is just something so wrong about the name strawberry corns. i would probably try this if i saw it though, but the thought of it tasting like the texture stale cheese puffs is kind of a put off. i hate how chewy they get. yuck!
@Erin – EXACTLY – that chewy cheese puff staleness is exactly how these felt.
Whenever I see the word “corns” I flashback to when I was really little and my grandma would cut them off of her feet. I just threw up a little in my mouth.
@NickRovo: UGH
I agree with the previous comments – corns makes me think of feet. Ew.
Though I can appreciate the fake “this is what strawberry tastes like” flavor, having grown up with Strawberry Pocky, which is delicious but tastes nothing like strawberries…
@Teresapalooza: Yep, fake strawberry Pocky is a great example
Haha, my students love these, but they always taste so stale to me and fake to me :/
*Minus one ‘to me.’
@ASHLEY: BLECH.
I never really liked these either growing up in Korea. Koreans have a weird obsession with corn puff products just like the Americans do with their crazy potato chip flavors.
@David: Oh nice. Glad to know even native Koreans find these shady
Hahahaha ur right Eric! Shady is the exact term to describe these corn puffs.
OMG actually I love these. Anybody know where I can order some???
@Areana – I keep spotting them at my local ethnic grocery
