Remembering 9/11

Junk Food Nation, no junk food review today.  No snark today.  A year ago today, I wrote about where I was on 9/11.  You can read the story here.  As I said a year ago, “It’s rather long, so if you’re not interested, totally cool … But if you’d like to learn a little more about your friendly neighborhood Junk Food Guy, read on.”

9/11 affected us all differently.  The horrible tragedy led to massive restructuring of people’s lives, mentally and emotionally.  It probably pushed many people down paths they were never going to walk – joining the military, moving closer to family, changing careers, etc.  Me? I was a scared kid in New York City armed only with a clock radio:

My clock radio, that I still own to this day.

Fortunately my story did not end in tragedy, and in no way do I pretend that I suffered at all compared to people who had genuine loss and grief in their lives.  No, just consider my year-ago post a small side story about how 9/11 affected me in a really random (but to me, significant) way.

My heart aches even today to think of all who perished that day.  I cannot stop thinking about the bravery and sacrifice of the men and women who served on that day and for many days after. We honor them by never forgetting, and always moving forward.

Sincerely,

Junk Food Guy

PS: I’ll be back to my old junk food and snarky ways tomorrow.

Today is my birthday, and I know what it was like to be a scared kid in NYC when this day occured 11 years ago. I was turning 18, and thought it would be cool to skip Renaissance Literature in college to hop on a train with my roommate to NYC. I will never forget that day, and not for the fact that I had been born on that day years earlier. Very nice post!

That was easily one of my favorite blog posts of all time when I read that last year It’s kind of cool to see events through other people’s eyes while you remember it from your perspective as well.
