Parle Hide & Seek World’s Best Moulded Chocolate Chip Cookies & “Thanks A LOT”
Junk Food Nation, I realized this morning I don’t just say, “Thanks” or “Thank you” when I address people, but my go-to phrase is always, “Thanks so much” or “Thanks a lot.” And when I really sounded out and thought about those words…I came to the conclusion that I sound ridiculous.
Accepting the baseline that say “Thanks” actually means something to another human being, what does “Thanks a lot” mean? I’m giving you thanks…and I’m giving you A LOT OF THANKS. JUST…A LOT OF IT. THANKS. A SLEW OF THANKS. IF I HAD A SACK, I’D EMPTY IT OUT AND FILL IT WITH THANKS, AND GIVE IT YOU – that’s how thankful I am!
Same thing with “Thanks so much.” What am I, 12? Not only am I trying to give you SO MUCH THANKS THAT I HAVE TO SAY SO, I don’t even care to have the words in the right grammatical order.
I know I’m being nit picky, but you would never say “Congratulations a lot!” or “Congrats so much” to someone else, nor would you exclaim, “Take care a lot!” or “Good luck so much” or “Be careful a lot!” Yet, I can’t NOT say “Thanks so much” or “Thanks a lot.” EErrrggh.
Maybe I’m just crazy. What do you think?
Today’s junk food: Parle Hide & Seek World’s Best Moulded Chocolate Chip Cookies!
I bought these Parle Hide & Seek World’s Best Moulded Chocolate Chip Cookies at my local Asian grocery store for less than a dollar. Parle is actually an Indian junk food company that has been around for almost 80 years! I was immediately struck by the shiny purple package and tasty pics. Plus, the name. Hide & Seek? What??? Although I guess it’s no stranger than naming crackers Ritz or Jingos.
Although I know it’s an accepted spelling in some parts of the world, seeing the word “Moulded” makes me think of former Bills Wide Receiver, Eric Moulds. Sorry, it just does. These Parle Hide & Seek World’s Best Moulded Chocolate Chip Cookies are labeled “Insist on Export.” I have to be honest, I’m not sure how to decipher what that means. Any suggestions?
I do like the imagery on these Parle Hide & Seek World’s Best Moulded Chocolate Chip Cookies – a chocolate bar that shakes out into chocolate chips onto cookies splashing in chocolate? Makes sense to me!
Parle Hide & Seek World’s Best Moulded Chocolate Chip Cookies were imported by the House of Spices. If that doesn’t sound shady, I don’t know what does. The second ingredient is chocolate chips, which is cool, and I’m not seeing any high fructose corn syrup…liking these cookies more and more.
Parle Hide & Seek World’s Best Moulded Chocolate Chip Cookies are 25 calories a piece…so this whole sleeve of cookies is 400 calories. Damn.
Parle Hide & Seek World’s Best Moulded Chocolate Chip Cookies are square cookies, lined up in a row…
…and they are slotted and dotted with chocolate chips, resembling the image on the wrapper – kind of.
Each of these Parle Hide & Seek World’s Best Moulded Chocolate Chip Cookies smelled HEAVILY of chocolate, which was really amazing. These cookies looked very unassuming, but gave off the best smell. Time to take a bite.
WOW. Parle Hide & Seek World’s Best Moulded Chocolate Chip Cookies were damn good. Like, REALLY good.
The cookie itself was crunchy but not TOO crunchy – no breaking of the teeth here. Almost had a shortbread sort-of-consistency, but not as buttery. Just a nice, easy to chew, crunchy cookie that didn’t crumb too much. The dough of the cookie itself was sweet and very nice – no overpowering oils that coated my tongue, no bleached flour taste. It tasted much like how a homemade cookie would taste – sweet flour with no tricks.
And then the chocolate – it packed EVERY SINGLE BITE! SO CHOCOLATEY. Despite the fact that the chips were little, these little chips made the whole cookie taste actually very decadent. Each chew brought forth a good amount of chocolatey flavor, and the after taste was all cocoa. Honestly, these cookies sort of tasted like homemade chocolate chip cookies, plain and simple. Good texture, good consistency, good flavor, and plenty of chocolate taste. They reminded me a LOT of Famous Amos Cookies.
I’d buy these again, no question. Thanks, Parle, for making these. Thanks a lot.

Only 89 cents??? Wow – those cookies did not look appetizing – goes to show you that looks can be deceiving. I’ll have to try them!
Take luck!
@Teresapalooza: “Excuse me, sir?” “MA’AM.” “Oh ok…”
Now I have to go for my chocolate stash! 🙂
@Elisa: No kidding. I rarely REALLY get into chocolate, but I was gobbling these like no tomorrow
“insist on export pack”? Let me refer you back to your Jan 14 post.
Also, this post (http://nomadone.nomadlife.org/2009/09/parle-g-g-for-genius-painting.aspx) implies that it’s a reference to some sort of cookie-counterfeiting deterrent…or something.
@Dana: Ha! I didn’t know there were Parle-duplicators out there!
These taste really good
@Sagar: Agree delicious
It makes me smile when people say ‘thanks so much’ and of course, mean it.
My manager says “thank you much” and I thought that was interesting – first time I’ve heard ‘thank you’ phrased like that.
