Junk Food Guy Seeking: Blue Bell Strawberry Banana Pound Cake Ice Cream & Happy Memorial Day (Plus a Brief Childhood Memory)
Junk Food Nation, I’m back from a lovely wedding in Miami, and it’s Memorial Day. Thanks to all who fought to give us the freedoms we have today here in the United States. It is because of those who sacrificed that we are able to walk freely in the streets, have free elections, and do silly things like write a blog about junk food.
While I was in Miami, I saw this at a Walgreens convenience store: Blue Bell Strawberry Banana Pound Cake Ice Cream!

Blue Bell Strawberry Banana Pound Cake Ice Cream is made by Blue Bell, a southern state based ice cream company, which means is I ever want to see this again, I’ll have to head South. Which I may have to do. Pound cake ice cream with strawberries and banana that ISN’T some effed up contraption made at Cold Stone Creamery??? Sign me up! Of course, I was on a tight wedding schedule while in Florida, so I didn’t get a chance to try this – if you’re from the South and have tasted this, please let me know how it is in the comments below!
Seeing this ice cream reminded me of how when I was a kid, my mom used to put a huge hunk of ice cream between two whopping slices of pound cake – our own makeshift ice cream sandwiches (and much better than the paper wrapped versions, I might add). I wonder how pound cake ice cream would taste inside pound cake slices? Hmmmmm.

Hi Junk Food Guy,
I found your blog while looking for what other people thought of this new flavor. You should have picked this one up! You would not have been disappointed. It is AMAZING, but then again I’m a Blue Bell fan having been raised on the stuff! I’m from Houston by the way, right down the street from Blue Bell’s headquarters in Brenham.
So this one has banana ice cream with chunks of real pound cake and strawberry slices with whipped cream topping. It’s not overly sweet; in fact, it’s quite refreshing. I’m in love and it might replace one of my favorites this summer.
The next time you’re down South, or better yet, in Texas (since you’ll find whatever flavor you fancy), here are my recommendations: Banana Pudding, Cookies & Cream, Southern Blackberry Cobbler, Pecan Pralines & Cream, Cotton Candy, Mint Chocolate Chip, French Vanilla, and Moollennium Crunch.
Next time, don’t pass it up…it is the best!
@Nica: UGH, I know 🙁 I’m gotten a few emails from friends who also live in the South who told me I totally blew it. Dangit. And Banana Pudding sounds amazing… Moollenium Crunch? haha.
I WON’T PASS IT UP AGAIN!
I tryed Blue Bell’s strawberry banana pound cake about 2-3 years ago, and thought it was one of the best Ice creams I’ve ever had. Unfortunately after this brief indulgence, the flavor vanished from the stores. I have been searching for it ever since. I came across this blog wondering if anyone else knew the struggle of this delectable lost relic.
