Birthday Cake Golden Oreo Cremes & So, Was the Facebook IPO Worth It?
Junk Food Nation, I have something to admit. I know NOTHING about stocks. Well, sort of. I know a little bit about how they work, why they are issued, etc. – but I have no REAL idea what makes them move up and down in the market. Still, I like so many others were intrigued by the IPO of Facebook yesterday. After all, it’s the world’s number 2 website only to Google, and that has to mean something, right? I wanted to buy buy buy…but of course, was too late getting in. So, to the buyers of FB stock, was it worth it?
The question that everyone had was how does Facebook make money? Those little tiny ads on the side can’t be it, can it? They had lots of investors pumping millions into the operation over the last few years…but to what end? Were they waiting for this IPO to hit so they could bank a big return on their initial investment? Maybe. But long term, what possibilities does this stock hold?
Bottom line is companies actually have to earn profit to keep the business going…and with the books finally open due to the public IPO, people will finally get to see whether Facebook actually has a good business model. Maybe Facebook stock IS a good buy. Or maybe it’ll be like Groupon, whose business model has a lot of cost involved, and have a stock that is a sinking ship. Only time will tell. What do YOU think? Tell in the comments below.
Today’s junk food: Birthday Cake Golden Oreo Cremes!
As you knew from the web generally or from my review of the other Birthday Cake Oreos released earlier this year, 2012 marked Oreo’s 100 year birthday. Birthday Cake Golden Oreo Cremes are another offering by Oreo to celebrate their 100 years! I first saw these on my friend Foodette’s Review site, and then I saw that Adam from the Impulsive Buy and FoodBeast also covered their release. Can’t be left out of the mix, can I?
Birthday Cake Golden Oreo Cremes were purchased at my local Giant Food Mart, but I also saw stacks of them when I went on my quest to find the rare Rainbow “Shure, Bert” Oreos at the Walmart SuperCenter. They were piled up right next to the Creamsicle Oreos (yeeeg.)
I had high hopes for these cookies since I loved the Birthday Cake Oreos. But would these be too fudge-y? I like sweet, but sometimes overly sweet could be overkill….After all, I wasn’t a HUGE fan of the Peanut Butter Fudge Cremes…
Birthday Cake Golden Oreo Cremes are comprised primarily like other Oreo Fudge Creme variety cookies – just one cookie half, the familiar disc of white creme, and then doused in fudge and chocolate. Simple. The package brags of birthday cake creme, however.
Birthday Cake Golden Oreo Cremes, I’m pretty sure if children are eating these, they will NOW be slowing down. They will be running headfirst into the couch over and over again.
Does it bother me that palm oil is the second ingredient for these Birthday Cake Golden Oreo Cremes? Ask me after a few cookies.
Ta-Da!!! Birthday Cake Golden Oreo Cremes. It was weird to me that these cookies weren’t ALL facing the same way (how’d the machine get THAT wrong???) but whatever. As soon as I opened up the package, cake batter or cake frosting smell came tumbling out. REALLY potent cake smell.
Each Birthday Cake Golden Oreo Creme had lots of sprinkles, which was festive. Not sure if they contributed any flavor… I enjoyed how there was crushed sprinkle powder everywhere. Like Oreo decided to roll some of these cookies around in the bottom of a Froot Loops box, or something.
One bite of these Birthday Cake Golden Oreo Cremes, and I was IMMEDIATELY hit with birthday cake flavor. Because the cookie to creme ratio is so much lower than normal Oreos, the main flavor/texture you get IS the creme and the fudge. Even when I just put my tongue to the surface of the cookie, before biting, I could taste the flavor of birthday cake frosting, in all it’s sprinkled glory.
The fudge and the internal birthday cake creme actually mixed really well to the point where the combo tasted just like a piece of yellow cake (the cookie) with chocolate frosting on top (the creme and fudge). Honestly. It was an amazing and brilliant flavor combo.
Eating these Birthday Cake Golden Oreo Cremes was sort of like eating a deconstructed Chocolate Iced Birthday Cake. The cookie? Kind of lost in the mix. The flavor? Overpowering to the end. The sugar? OVERLOAD. But the flavor goal? On the mark.
Would I eat these again? Yes I would. Would I eat a LOT of these – no. I felt these were more successful than the other Fudge Creme cookies that Oreo has, but they were still a little too sugary for me. Still if that’s what Oreo was going for in these Birthday Cake Fudge Cremes, I’d say they did a bang-up job.

@Lynn: Or even just a cake that has these pasted all over the outside. Or these with ice cream?? oooooooooooo
Very festive! Oreo is just cranking out the products, aren’t they? I think my entire childhood there was just Oreo and Double Stuff Oreo. Now they’re all fancy – kids are so lucky…
Or rather, kids are fat…
@Teresapalooza: Yep, kids are fat
