Häagen-Dazs Limited Edition Spiced Caramel Biscuit Ice Cream & An Admission: Avoiding Sleep

Junk Food Nation, I have a horrible admission to make. I love sleep.  That’s not the admission. The admission is despite my love of sleep, I avoid it like the plague, for some bizarre reason.  I’ll be exhausted at night, brush my teeth, pull back my t-shirt sheets, get in bed, lie down…and then pull out my phone and play Tiny Tower.  Or Word with Friends. Or read movie summaries on Wikipedia. Or look up fantasy baseball stats on ESPN. Or return texts. Or watch YouTube.  Oh Jiminy Christmas, how I love to watch YouTube on my phone before I go to bed. I’ll watch a video like this one five times in a row:

And then before I know it, it’s 1:20am.  WTF.  What is wrong with me??? At some point, my body just turns off, and I wake up with my phone underneath my shoulder or something.

And trust me – I tried just not doing this stupid shit before closing my eyes. But I get bored. Sure, if I lay there for 30 mins, I’ll eventually drift off…but for those 22 mins while I’m still semi conscious, I am BORED. I don’t THINK I have ADD…I can actually concentrate pretty well. It’s just that I feel like I always need stimulus, even when that’s the OPPOSITE of what I should be providing my body.

Help! Does anyone have good sleeping suggestions?? Besides locking my phone away…

Today’s junk food: Häagen-Dazs Limited Edition Spiced Caramel Biscuit Ice Cream!

The Money Shot

Another one of this season’s limited edition flavors, Häagen-Dazs Limited Edition Spiced Caramel Biscuit Ice Cream was found at my local Giant food store.  You just help but notice the ultra-purple container.  it sucks you in.

I love biscuits!

I have to admit, I had to sound out the name of this ice cream a couple of times before I processed fully what this was.  Spiced…caramel…biscuit??  I mean, if you’re like me, you try to envision how something will taste just by reading the name, which is why the name of a product is so important.  Spiced caramel biscuit sounded like…well, I wasn’t sure.

Bricks o cookie

Häagen-Dazs Limited Edition Spiced Caramel Biscuit Ice Cream has what appears to be pieces of gingerbread or spice cookie on its label with sticks of cinnamon nearby.  Or maybe theyre giant bricks of brown sugar.  Either way, I’m all in.

Speculoos?

According to Wiki, Speculoos is a type of shortcrustbiscuit, traditionally baked for consumption on or just before St Nicholas’ feast in the Netherlands (December 5), Belgium (December 6),[1]and Northern France… Speculoos are thin, very crunchy, slightly browned and, most significantly, have some image or figure (often from the traditional stories about St. Nicholas) stamped on the front side before baking; the back is flat.

Well, Häagen-Dazs Limited Edition Spiced Caramel Biscuit Ice Cream, these just sound delicious.

Why oh why?

Sometimes, I’m not sure why I bother putting the nutritional or ingredient info on here.  You’re gonna eat it and we’re all gonna get fat together…let’s just accept it.  Now pass me a spoon.

Moon surface

Häagen-Dazs Limited Edition Spiced Caramel Biscuit Ice Cream looked amazing from the first crack of the lid.  The caramel ice cream looked smooth and inviting, and you can see where the chunks of cookie are peeking out.  Plus, the random cinnamon sugar/spice spots looked INCREZZIBLE.

Luscious

Are you joking?  This looked and smelled delicious!  The first spoon full I scooped had a big chunk of cookie in it.  Häagen-Dazs Limited Edition Spiced Caramel Biscuit Ice Cream, I’m in love.

Pieces of biscuit

Oh, Häagen-Dazs, you’ve done it again with your Limited Edition Spiced Caramel Biscuit Ice Cream.  The caramel ice cream was smooth and creamy, and tasted (to me) like it was infused with cinnamon and molasses and gingerbread spice. The biscuits themselves were crunchy and sweet and buttery, and tasted like Biscoff cookies – some of my favorite airplane cookies!  The combo of tastes were entirely complementary.  Even where there weren’t larger chunks of cookie, when my teeth hit the crumb-like bits, it was like hitting a pocket of crunchy brown sugar spice each time.  Plenty of large and small chunks of cookies throughout the ice cream.

Overall the combination was amazing.  For someone like me who really enjoys spice cookies, this was a perfect treat.  RECOMMENDED HIGHLY.

  1. I often times think that the people that come up with these flavors must do a lot of drugs, because that would seem to be the only way that you could think of pairing some of these things together. That said, spiced caramel biscuit sounds delicious and I’m glad it turned out that way. I’m not a huge Haagen-Dazs guy, but I may actually have to seek this one out next time they have Haagen-Dazs products on sale (I refuse to pay $5.99 for a container that is two ounces short of a pint).

As for sleeping, I’m a horrible sleeper too and have faced a lot of the problems that you have. One thing that I’ve found that helps is I absolutely stop having any caffeine after 2:00 p.m. I used to drink it all day and I’d lay in bed at night wide awake for hours like you. After I put my 2:00 p.m. curfew into effect, I have trouble making it past 8:45 (I also get up at 4:45, but that’s a different story). If you are a big caffeine guy, that may help you out a bit.

@IE: These were on sale for $3! Win!

As for coffee that’s the thing – I rarely drink coffee 🙁 I need melatonin or something…

  2. Not just coffee. That includes all sodas or anything that would have caffeine in it.

  3. Oh this looks amazing! I immediately thought of Biscoff, even before you mentioned them. Best cookies ever! Trader Joe’s started making a knockoff cookie that’s pretty close, though the original is still the best.

And I hear you about fighting sleep. I have to force myself not to play Tetris some nights and just close my eyes, reasoning with myself that the boredom will not last that long because I’m so damn tired.

You could just stay up all night, start some underground fighting groups, and splice porn into kid’s cartoons.

I can’t stand to go to sleep either, I’m like a petulant child. I fall asleep reading every single night, which helps, cause it means I have literally drained my tank dry,

I came across your site looking for nutrition info for the Haagen Daz Caramel Spiced Buscuit ice cream. I need to fill in my weight watcher points (Yikes, do I really wanna know the points of this?) This ice cream is sooooooooo unbelievably yummy. So much so that I just went to Haagen Daz’s facebook page to beg them not to make it a Limited Edition. Personally I think that’s bad marketing. You find something you love and then are totally disappointed when it’s no longer available. Never a good idea to disappoint customers! For those of you who also love it, mention it to them and maybe they’ll keep it around yearly!

Anyway, also have trouble getting to sleep ( it seems such a waste of time ) I have found great help in listening to mediation podcasts through itunes. They’re free and some of them are really good. I have not listened to a complete one yet! It puts me out rather quickly! Some of my favorites are from Jesse & Jeane Stern The Mediation Podcast. Meditation Oasis & Meditation Society of Australia. Hope they help you as much as they did me!

@Lisa: Yeah. Limited Edition for H-D isn’t too bad though – they tell you it’s gonna be around for several months! Still, I agree – so many things that USED to be around that I wish still existed *cough wild white nacho Doritos*

    O to the M to the G!!!

I have NEVER had ice cream this good in my life. I’m a big fan of getting the latest limited editions every couple of months, but this is BY FAR the best!!!

This is a great flavor with a terrible title. I’m half Dutch and am intimately acquainted with speculaas (which is the most common spelling for this cookie in Holland; speculoos looks antiquated although I haven’t googled to verify that). Even I had to read the detailed description of the flavor to understand what it was. They should call it cinnamon spice cookie or work a deal w Biscoff and call it Biscoff cookie crunch or something like that. Americans are more familiar w Biscoff and it is basically a clone of speculaas.
